Looking for this week's What Is It Wednesday? It has a new home, click here!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:

And this is what it was cropped from:
This belonged to my grandmother, I think (Mel? MB?) and it's from Fujian, China.
Michelle (aka birthday girl--Happy Birthday!!!): "It is a small wooden tree next to a small wooden japanese style piece of architecture a house or a resting place." was the first to get it right!
Wil was close: "A highly stylized Japanese garden woodcut within an oval frame...." quickly followed by Mel: "It's a Japanese wood carving scene." and then DebR: "Oh, I bet this is one of those little Japanese scenes carved from Balsa wood and put into a little glass box. "
As always, thanks for playing! By the way, all photos used in What Is It Wednesday are marked as "private" in my flickr account...that's so no one can view the picture at a bigger size to get a better look!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:

And this is what it was cropped from:
Almost everyone, from Lisa: "O-R-E-O! I'll have a glass of milk too please. :)" to Nicola: "I think it's the top of a chocolate sandwich type cooke too!" got it correct!
Some of you thought waffle or pizzelle maker, some of you thought manhole cover (oh my god...MANhole...hahahahah!!!) and DebR...well, here's what she thought: "It's an attempt at a crop circle, only it was created in a muddy field with no actual crops growing there (so they had to build up the mud into ridges instead of cutting down hay) and it was created by a very girly bunch of aliens, which is why it's so flowery. (Sheesh, it's SO obvious!)" Now THAT'S imagination!
As always, thanks for playing! By the way, all photos used in What Is It Wednesday are marked as "private" in my flickr account...that's so no one can view the picture at a bigger size to get a better look!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:

And this is what it was cropped from:
This is the other side of the statue:

It's a statue remembering the victims of the Irish potato famine. Apparently there are a couple of these statues around, one in Boston proper and this one in Cambridge. Hmmm...
Anyway, there were some funny and creative guesses last week!!!
- Carl: "Looks like that hand of some ghost pervert, reaching out to goose some poor unsuspecting lady waiting for the subway." Kinda!!!
- SwordGirl: "It looked like an asteroid at first being viewed in a movie theater with the red movie lights below." Can't get more creative than that! Did any of you see that? I did, after she pointed it out LOL!
- Lisa: "A creepy hand reaching out from the great beyond to cop a little feel just one more time." What's on y'all's minds??
As always, thanks for playing! By the way, all photos used in What Is It Wednesday are marked as "private" in my flickr account...that's so no one can view the picture at a bigger size to get a better look!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:

And while this isn't what it was cropped from, it's prettier than just an ear of corn!
20+ people commented...and 20+ people got it right! I like to toss in an easy one from time to time :-)
As always, thanks for playing! By the way, all photos used in What Is It Wednesday are marked as "private" in my flickr account...that's so no one can view the picture at a bigger size to get a better look!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:

And this is what it was cropped from:

It's a tent caterpillar cocoon...
No one got this correct...but Michelle was the closest:
Michelle: "Something sticky with stuff stuck on it...it's the best I got this week!"
There were some hysterical answers tho:
Shirley: "It's clearly an alien at the (frosted glass) door . With their hand up. Y'know, like ET Go Home, but in green."
ME: "is it Gauguin's "Tahitian Girl In Saran Wrap""
As always, thanks for playing! By the way, all photos used in What Is It Wednesday are marked as "private" in my flickr account...that's so no one can view the picture at a bigger size to get a better look!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:

And this is what it was cropped from:

Some little critter nibbled one of the plum tomatoes from my garden!
Ok, I'll admit...this one was pretty gross!!! To me, it looked like an empty eye socket *shudder*
My cousin, Mel, was the first to get it right: A tomato !!!!"
Also:
Jo: "...A tomato. perhaps one bitten by a squirrel or a worm." She's a chef, she should know!
L-Squared: "...makes me think of a slice of tomato in a salad..."
Bob-kat: "...I'm going with tomato with the seeds removed."
Robin: "A tomato! No wait - it's a roasted pepper! (she ultimately went with roasted pepper, but I'll give her credit ;-)
Laurie L.: "I believe it is a tomato, possibly munched on by a slug or snail"

Here's last Wednesday's picture:

And this is what it was cropped from:

Someone holding some playing cards as viewed through a glass of bubbly!
That ANY of you could tell it was a hand or better yet, a finger, was amazing to me! I'm SO not good at these guessing games lol! And many of you DID guess it was a hand holding something, good for you!
DebR: "Ok, actually it looks to me like a hand holding something...a LUSH product maybe?...as seen in a foggy, water-droplet-splattered mirror.".
MissMeliss: "Well, it looks like someone holding a bath scrubby or some such, as viewed through glass or in a mirror.".
Jack: "A hand in ice.".
Shirley: "It's a finger holding a caterpiller, as viewed by someone who's had a few too many drinks.".
My cousin, Mel: "This is an easy one... It's Snape's hand holding a bath sponge as he washes your back. What a bath that must have been! LOL!!".
My GOOD friend MaryEllen: "It's my claw hand coming out of the grave to get you. Cause I don't care, you marry my son and I'll kill you even AFTER you do it over my dead body." (she's SERIOUS y'all!!!).
RacerX said: "It looks like a hand that is just being pushed underwater causing bubbles.".
Indigo: "Michele sent me, and I think that's someone's finger behind a shower door.".
ScaryLoo: "Its a ghost holding a baby's finger".
Monique: "its the smudge of Capt. Jack's thumb on your steamy bathroom mirror... or perhaps the steamy mirrored headboard of your bed?".

Here's last Wednesday's picture:

And this is what it was cropped from:

Raindrops on a varnished picnic table :-)
Tommiea was the first of many to get it right: "looks like a water droplet on a wooden table...".
Laura gave me a good laugh: "oh, this one is easy.....that's a cross section of someone's liver!". Monique (who apparently has a very interesting story of where her first name came from) cracked me (and Nancy) up: "it's a drop of sweat on your nightstand... obviously from Mr. Depp after a hot night of monkey love."

Here's last Wednesday's picture:

And this is what it was cropped from:
I think this is the first time no one got it! Anybody know for sure? In any event,
DebR's answer amused me the most :-) "Glitter on a warthog's belly?" ME? Remember Warty? Ahhhhh, the old days ;-)
I'm with SwordGirl, tho, who said: "...My first guess from afar was a constellation...". I thought it looked like a constellation, too!
As always, thanks for playing! By the way, all photos used in What Is It Wednesday are marked as "private" in my flickr account...that's so no one can view the picture at a bigger size to get a better look!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:

Alas, no picture of it in the bowl as I forgot to upload it to Flickr! You'll just have to take my word for it that it was, in fact, wax beans!
Michele was the first to guess correctly: "I think it looks like wax beans. I do not like wax beans. Mmm, more for me, then! I love 'em!
Robin "I think they're wax beans, but if not then white asparagus." and Auntie Antiquity "It looks like wax beans laid side by side." also guessed correctly!
As always, thanks for playing! By the way, all photos used in What Is It Wednesday are marked as "private" in my flickr account...that's so no one can view the picture at a bigger size to get a better look!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:

And this is what it is:
Rus was the first to guess correctly: "Any chance it's a close up of the mechanism of a beater? Right you are, Rus!
silverwillow "Surely it is the latest invention by Xenophilius to ward off Death Eaters?" and DebR "I think it's part of a Sneak-o-scope!" gave me my Harry Potter fix, thanks!
As always, thanks for playing! By the way, all photos used in What Is It Wednesday are marked as "private" in my flickr account...that's so no one can view the picture at a bigger size to get a better look!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:

And this is what it was cropped from:
Not an alien catepillar or a horribly enlarged bedbug, but a cactus.
Lisa got it right: "Cactus? Demonspawn caterpillar? Right AND funny...I like that! Amy the black's answer was funny...to me and possibly other Harry Potter fans: "Mimbulus Mimbletonia?"
As always, thanks for playing! By the way, all photos used in What Is It Wednesday are marked as "private" in my flickr account...that's so no one can view the picture at a bigger size to get a better look!
First of all...did you notice my new header? Snape is back, looking a bit darker and a tad worn, as is fitting for the last book, which will, of course, prove his innocence! Thanks to Megan for a fantastic job on WICKED short notice!!!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:

And this is what it was cropped from:
See! It WAS a submarine...albeit one on land!
My cousin, MB, got it right: "I think it looks like the propeller from a submarine or something. This is because she spent MANY years watching submarine races!
As always, thanks for playing! By the way, all photos used in What Is It Wednesday are marked as "private" in my flickr account...that's so no one can view the picture at a bigger size to get a better look!
The commenting problems are over; my lovely and talented designer fixed it!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:

And this is what it was cropped from:
burntofferings got it right: "I have a 'hunch' that it is used for juicing. Hold the other bulbous end in you palm, half a citrus in the other, and push and rotate...
As always, thanks for playing! By the way, all photos used in What Is It Wednesday are marked as "private" in my flickr account...that's so no one can view the picture at a bigger size to get a better look!
Also, it seems my blog has been having some commenting problems lately...my designer is working on it and we'll get it fixed! Sorry for the inconvenience!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:

And this is what it was cropped from:
The absolutely funniest comment was from Lisa: "I'd like to say it's a display of pickle-shaped vibrators at a sex shop you visited in Vegas, but that would be vulgar, right? ;-)Oh, what the hell-- I'm saying it! She was also the first to get it right: "But of course, it's a nasty pickle. I hates me some pickles, but I know you love them."
As always, thanks for playing! By the way, all photos used in What Is It Wednesday are marked as "private" in my flickr account...that's so no one can view the picture at a bigger size to get a better look!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
And this is what it was cropped from:
Julie was the first of, again, MANY to get it right; "...a lump of quartz".
The absolutely funniest comment was from Monique "AHHHH! it's obviously part of one of the skeletons in your closet!". It might be, there are LOTS in there!
As always, thanks for playing! By the way, all photos used in What Is It Wednesday are marked as "private" in my flickr account...that's so no one can view the picture at a bigger size to get a better look!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:

Jenn was the first of MANY to get it right; yup, it was a staple remover. Am I the ONLY one that thought it looked like vampire fangs? Sigh...
The funniest comment was a toss up between Wil "Before I read the comments I was wracking my brain for what type of Vice-Grips these might be from. But it IS obviously a staple remover, dang it." and Michele "It's a staple remover. (You will note that I only play when I know what it is. Or at least am fairly certain I know.)".
I just flat out disappointed Lisa: "... I have to say I hope you tricked us all and it is nothing to do with staples or the removal therof." ROFLMAO!
Also funny, in a less ironic sense, were the following:
Jules: "Or it could be Edward Scissorhands' fingers."
Heather: "...Or a steel dragon's teeth!"
Laura: "ummm....is THAT what you used to pierce you nipple with??????" [ed. note: neither one is pierced, I DO have my limits!]
my cousin, Mel, who always makes up the best stories: "Please don't let this leak out to anyone, but it is the teeth of ONE WHO SHAll REMAIN NAMELESS. They are able to fly out into the air and attack on their own, razor sharp, strong as a bear trap, hard as steel and a real challenge for HP when he fights and defeats his greatest enemy with his most powerful magic trick ever, ( in the last book, of course)."
my other cousin and Mel's younger sister, MB: "I told you to get that dental work done for Wolf!"
Shirley: "That's Snape's teeth when he transmogrifies and accidentally does the spell wrong and gets sent into the future where robots have replaced most people and he becomes a sort of robot monster wizard...".
As always, thanks for playing! By the way, all photos used in What Is It Wednesday are marked as "private" in my flickr account...that's so no one can view the picture at a bigger size to get a better look!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
And this is a shot of a sand dollar, altho not the one it was cropped from:
Michelle: "First I have to say HA I AM FIRST because I am never first. My guess is it is a sand dollar from the beach." T, Laura, Amy, Heather, MaryEllen, Tori, Colleen G, Colleen & Miss Meliss all got it right, too. Damn, you guys are smart!
I learned something this weekend...there are no sand dollars in Australia, New Zealand or Norway! Hence these comments: " Fossil? What's a sand dollar?" from Julie (Australia); "This week, it's clearly a squashed trilobite." from Shirley (New Zealand) and "Negative footprints or trilobites" from TorAa
On to the folks who made me laugh (I love you guys!):
First place goes to Lisa: "Markings left from dragging the dead bodies (from work, of course) down the beach on your way to Plymouth Rock last weekend. ;-)"
Village of Many said: "Aliens landed on the beach and left a message to all the humans in the sand."
Lee was both silly AND correct: " that looks like the mark left by aliens after they suck your brains out....or maybe it's a sand dollar? :)"
And another Lisa, who also was both silly and correct: "SAND DOLLAR!!!! Well really it is the marking left from Capt's Jack Sparrow's boot as he stepped off the Black Pearl. Have a great day!"
As always, thanks for playing! By the way, all photos used in What Is It Wednesday are marked as "private" in my flickr account...that's so no one can view the picture at a bigger size to get a better look!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
I did things a bit differently last week; I was trying to get you guys to see the goose in the picture. See him...to the right of the tree? Um...maybe I won't try that again LOL! Although a couple of you got it! First was villageofmany : "A canadian goose or heron visiting in the background?" YES!!! Julie also got it: "... are you referring to the goose (or whatever it is) sticking its head up near the tree?"
But...OMG you guys had some WEIRD GREAT answers!
MaryEllen: "...Capn Sparrow scampers down to the walk at midnight only to meet you under the moonlight..." Hmmm...I kinda like that idea!
Then we had Laura who said: "is this the hiding spot where you bury all the bodies?" Only the ones I kill at work, hon!
DebR obviously knows me so well: "A garden planted and maintained by all your admirers as a tribute to your beauty and wit. :-)". BWAHAHAHHA!!!
T was having visions: "I see is an area up on the hill and it looks like 2 giant boobs are sticking up out of the ground and the branches from the tree and groping at them! I'm RIGHT this week, right?"
And Carl...well, Carl was gross, but he DID make me laugh out loud: "I'm thinking you caught a shot of the illusive Loch Ness Moster. Although, if viewed right, that same dark shape looks a bit like the silhouette of a tampon....hmmm...."
Finally, Colleen and her very active imagination said: "Here Lies Mary Poppins: An umbrella stuck in the ground. Maybe she jumped in."
As always, thanks for playing! By the way, all photos used in What Is It Wednesday are marked as "private" in my flickr account...that's so no one can view the picture at a bigger size to get a better look!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:

This is the shot it was cropped from:
Dew was the first of MANY to get this right: "Easy this time! A McDonald's fries box in the grass." By the way, there will be a blog entry about this soon...it's really quite amazing how McDonald's is so recognizable!
Shirley and Mel had answers that made me laugh:
Shirley: "well, I was going to say the same as Dew, but for the sake of fun and variety, I'll say " the front of a brightly painted pirate ship as viewed through tall tropical reeds"."
my cousin, Mel: Anyone can easily see that it is a witch's slipper left in the grass as her broom lifted her off the ground and into the air. I understand that finding these slippers is very rare because they vanish in the moonlight. Good find Jan!

***EDITED***
Let me rephrase: What is it in the picture of the lovely garden that might be unusual?
Here's last Wednesday's picture:

This is the shot it was cropped from:
GoofyGirl guessed correctly: "Some kind of quartz rock??"
These folks had answers that made me laugh: My cousin, Mel: "Or it is the side of a mountian where there several gondolas crashed into the snow."; Carl: "Methinks someone bit into a frozen brownie and left some of their teeth/roots behind."; Dew: "My son says, "It's a bacterium, surfing."; ME: "...bloody body parts from a car wreck in a snow storm". You folks are truly sick! Well...not Dew...LOL!

Last week, Michele Agnew made my blog her Site of the Day! Thank you Michele - she picked a fun day, that's for sure! I enjoyed all the comments and the folks that came to visit, thank you all :-)
Here's last Wednesday's picture:

This is the shot it was cropped from:

The pineapple looking one is Godiva Shampoo: "While we do suggest that you try this sultry jasmine scented hair softening shampoo and cocoa butter conditioner bar to see what all the fuss is about, you may wish to re-consider riding bareback naked afterwards. Godiva was the inspiration, not the protocol." and the red one is called New! (Hair) Shampoo: "A spice bar for the scalp. Cinnamon, peppermint, and clove bud oil revitalize your scalp and hair follicles as it eliminates dirt, grime, and product residue. Use it and you'll feel like a whole new person - not that you were bad to begin with." I love my Lush products!
Megan was first: "I'm gonna guess the new shampoo bar you got from LUSH last night that I smelled on your hair. That or red maggots and caked grease in petri dishes. I opt for the former.".
My cousin, Mel, had the funniest answer last week: "The 'H' is for Hogwarts, of course! It's three tins of magic potions. The first one will keep snakes and spiders away, the second will make you invisible after it is rubbed on and the last one is used to attract Snape, vampires and lovers of all sorts. I understand Snape can not resist a women once it is dabbed on around her neck! LOL!"

Here's last Wednesday's picture:

This is the shot it was cropped from:
Once again, many of you got it right last week! Amy was first: "It is either a pinecone that hasn't opened or a basket...I gonna go with pinecone!".
A couple of you outed me tho:
Lisa: "...Chinese handcuffs...Dominatrix in training, don't you know? ;-)"
MB: "...a leather braided whip. You've got one of those right?"
Laura: "...riding crop? Studded condom?"
Bad, bad girls--I have NOTHING of the sort!
Since Carmen "I'm hoping it's a pinecone and not the scales on a snake. Because that picture would be WAY too close." and rampant bicycle "But I'm with Carmen - please tell me that it's NOT a snakeskin! That'd be up too close and personal for me. ;)" seemed to share a phobia, I decided NOT to use the picture I snapped this past weekend of a snake that Wolf disturbed swimming away across a pond :-)
As always, thanks for playing!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:

This is the shot it was cropped from:
Lots of you got it right last week! My cousin, the dackel princess was first: "I think it is a roof."; however, Robin was the first to get it completely right: "I'm going with turret and roof :-)".
Lisa said: "...I wanted to say it was the roof to Snape's summer get away home..." which made us (me) think we should write a story about said home :-)
Carmen cracked me up: "Clearly it's a picture of squares.". Yup! It is that!
As always, thanks for playing!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:

This is the shot it was cropped from:

Popcorn...I went through a good many before I found one I thought would make a good photograph.
Lots of you got it right last week, teej was the first ... and she was cute about it: "Ooh! OOoh! I know this one!! It's a popcorn kernel, popped. Yea! *bounce* I'm so happy! I almost *never* get them figured out until you post the full picture. (Yes, I know, most normal adults would not be this excited about this.. *shrug*)"; Wil cracked me up: "Here I was, comparing this to the structures of a dragonfly wing when it was staring me in the mug the whole time - popcorn. Jeez!".
As always, thanks for playing!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
This is the shot it was cropped from:

Roasted chicken; I start by rubbing some olive oil on it, then sprinkle with a mixture of sea salt, rosemary, sage, oregano, bay leaves, thyme & garlic. Sometimes I mix some grated lemon & squeeze some lemon juice into the olive oil, and stuff the chicken with the left-over lemon. Yum!
I think Rhea was the first of many to get this right: This one looks like part of a roast chicken.; Wil even got most of the ingredients: "Yep, it sure looks like a wingtip on a roast chicken, with little bits of rosemary and other dried herbs on a golden browned chicken skin ...".
Transvestite Bait made me laugh with: "it's the inside of a dragon's mouth, around the gumline. that little pointy thing that others have mistakenly called a chicken wing is the tip of his scaly crusty little tongue." Ooooh, hot!
As always, thanks for playing!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
This is the shot it was cropped from:

Doesn't really solve the mystery of what it is, does it? That's water (a pond) with trees reflected in it in the upper left...and lower right is a stone bridge, under which water...but not the mystery thing...flows...I call it "ick"!
I think Carl was closest this week, he said: That's a bad case of soap scum you have there. Might want to pull out the heavy duty cleaner for that! Even though he was being sarcastic, I think it might be some kind of pond scum thing...or the blob!!!
Or maybe Darlene and Dyane were closest, guessing it was a mushroom of some sort...it sure does look fungal!
Seeing as how last week was so tough, I'm making this one easy for you! As always, thanks for playing!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
This is the shot it was cropped from:
Laura was close when she said "...butt plug?", but ME hit it right on the nose (and she should know!): "those are the ear plugs to drown out my snoring" Keerect!!!
As always, thanks for playing!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
This is the shot it was cropped from:
T, Silverwillow and Laura were the first of many to think my tongue looks like a butt...hmmm...I'd like to know just what kind of butts you all have been looking at!
This week, Irish Church Lady was the first of many to get it right; she said: "It's a human tongue! Thank dog it's not a cow's tongue. Yeccch!"; Finn's comment was my favorite, tho: "That's your tongue. I see distinctive Depp marks on it..." Sigh...I wish ;-)
As always, thanks for playing!

As you can see, it's the bowl that is a bit granite looking!I was making peppermint chocolate brownies and the recipe called for two eggs. I cracked the first one and did a double take at the shape it took! It totally looks like a mother and child to me.
Amy came real close with "Looks like egg yolk on a granite countertop to me..."; then it was Maribeth, who said: "An egg in a dish"; but Ocean got it right on the nose: "It looks like a parent and child in the shape of egg yolk. What an amazing shape it formed." That's what I thought, too!
Jana scoffed, saying: "The yellow thing is the top part of a mother & child (sculpture? collage?) Not sure what the background is. Either that, or your got really artistic as you tried to fry your egg this morning! Hahaha!" Little did she know she was so close to being right!
ME's sacrilegious answer cracked me up: "it's a sculpture of Mary and the Baby Jesus made of cheeze whiz"
As always, thanks for playing!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
This is the shot it was cropped from:
This was a Vosges truffle, from a box Megan gave me for Valentine's Day. This one is called Naga; sweet Indian curry powder + coconut + milk chocolat = YUM!HAHAHA, it's NOT a truffle...but I bet he IS yummy!Michele was damn close with "I say pirate legs and an octopus. An orange octopus."; if ME had just elaborated a bit more "sparrow feet" (what can I say, she's short [hehehe], sweet & to the point), but it was Finn who got it right this week: "Plastic spider ring at the feet of Jack Sparrow."
Honorable mention goes to Monique "it's cleary your view of jack sparrow standing by you after a session of wild monkey love on the beach... he's just getting ready to kick away that pesky orange octopus that tried to join the party..." for answering in a most amusing way!
As always, thanks for playing!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
This is the shot it was cropped from:
This was a Vosges truffle, from a box Megan gave me for Valentine's Day. This one is called Naga; sweet Indian curry powder + coconut + milk chocolat = YUM!
My cousin was the first to get it mostly right: "It's a yummy chocolate with fairy dust on it to make it taste even better!"; I like the imagery of "fairy dust" better than "curry powder", don't you?
Honorable mention goes to:
Darlene was close with "Chocolate ball?"
Monique with: "...or a yummy truffle."
Fleury with: "It's a dark chocolate truffle with something sprinkled on top. Knowing you, it's something with a bit of a twist or a kick! It looks delicious!" hehehe she gets me!
Heather with: "I think it's from a truffle that you got from megan for vday!! I have been puzzling over it for a while ;)"
Blue Fire with: "I know what it is. I saw the picture from Valentine's day. Is it curry on top of the chocolate."
rampant bicycle (Don't you love that name? What does it mean!) with: "Looks like one of those fabulous, exotic chocolatey truffly bits of goodness. Mmm. I want one..."
But my favorite was this one by Wacky Mommy: "I always love the pictures you post." Thank you!!!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
This is the shot it was cropped from:
ROFLMAO! So many of you made me laugh last week! The pierced fish lips, the eyes, the cursed gems...ahahahah!!! I love you guys! Anyway, this week it was Amy who was closest to getting it right: "My guess is a clam holding red earrings!"; as you can see, it's not a clam, but those are earrings! Thanks for playing :-)
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
This is the shot it was cropped from:
Amy got it right: "I have two thoughts. It is either ice in a glass or those stones in a fishbowl...I am leaning towards ice"; DebR "It's obviously a tinsel-eating alien jellyfish. Duh! :-)" and Laura "a jelly fish on acid" cracked me up! Thanks for playing :-)
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
This is the shot it was cropped from:
Finn said it succinctly: "Bookmark with ribbons." and Dyane got it precisely (where you looking in my bedroom?): "Satin ribbons on the end of a bookmark, iniside of a book that looks like you're about half through with." I was sad that the usual suspects (cough carl krista monique cough) didn't contribute their usual bizarro comments :-(
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
This is the shot it was cropped from:
Darlene was close...she said: "It looks like one of those bendable lamps, maybe?"; DebR got it totally correct: "It looks like the bendy "stem" to a desk lamp with an autumn leaf trapped behind/under it." and Carl just plain grossed me out: "I think I saw this in my grandparent's bathroom. It looks to be a vintage 1950's ribbed condom, possibly from the Rock Hudson line.". Thanks for playing along!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
This is the shot it was cropped from:
Finn was the first to get this right...she said: "Eeet looks like zee back of an electric toothsbrush...Don't ask me why I'm typing like that; I haven't a clue! I'd say it was an Oral B."; Carl: "Looks to me to be a ghost, mashed flat by a garbage truck. He evidently saw it coming as he looks both sad and horrified.", Rhea: "Casper the Ghost", Laura: "kind of looks like the expression on my face every morning when I walk into my office...only Im a little more green..." and Heather: "Looks like those japanese ghost things - the ones that are the ball with the face written on them!" amused me most!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
This is the shot it was cropped from:
My cousin was the first to get this right...she said: "A shedll! darn bad typing. I meant shell!"; Silverwillow's, Lisa's, Krista's, ME's & T's answers appealed to my smutty side ;-)
And even though this has nothing to do with WIIW, here's another BPAL description...I can't resist!
The last one I tried tonight is
Athens: Myrrh, golden honey, red wine, and sweet flowers. Oh, sweet honey!!! I smell that first...then some delicious red wine, not very spicy at all but oh so yummy! I'd definitely wear this again!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
This is the shot it was cropped from:
Megan the Elder, who no longer has a blog, was the first to get this right...she said: "Chewed-on measuring cup?"; my second favorite answer was from Anne who complimented me: "Whatever it is... I love your pictures!"...woohoo!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
This is the shot it was cropped from:
Laura was the first of many to get this right...she said: "I think its candle wax...."; Krista had the best wrong answer this week: "isn't that the fire pit where Frodo is supposed to destroy the ring?" LOTR reference...woohoo!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
This is the shot it was cropped from:
Michele was the first one to get this right...she said: "A nutcracker and a walnut?"; many of you followed. My friend MaryEllen (ME) had the funniest answer this week: "It's my royal scepter conking you on the brain" Very well could be!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
Again, I didn't take a bigger shot, but I did find this photo online that shows what it was from
Dawners got this one right...she said: "Looks like a piece of stained glass or art glass."
Seeing as how that was so tough, I'm giving you an easy one this week!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
It wasn't cropped from anything, that was just the picture!
DebR got it right...she said: "The edge of a scarf made with fancy yarn!"
MB didn't get it right, she said "It's that crap in a planter. You know, geeze what is that called again???", but it did made me laugh!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
I'd show you what it was cropped from...but it wouldn't really help much, so I'll just say that it was indeed a bud from a Christmas Cactus, as seen below:
DebR got it correct: "A bud off a Christmas cactus!" Kudos!
goofygirl scared me a bit by saying: "...Or something else on a female starting with a C.", but only cause she's studying to be a doctor!
These folks cracked me up:
SilverWillow "Uhhh...is that a kidney stone?"
Dyane "A talon from one of the hounds of Hell. I'm sure of it.
Carl "Since I am reading The Looking Glass Wars my first thought was a bloody jaberwock tooth. Of course I really know its toenail fungus from Chicken Little that you stole from his chicken feet whilst taking pictures in Fla. Why you wanted to do so is beyond me." and Gina "It's the turkey scrotum leftover from Thanksgiving!" seemed to be on the same general avian track.
Just got back from my trip and thought I'd post this before doing anything else!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
And this is what it was cropped from:
rampantbicycle was the first one of many to guess correctly; she said: "That looks like part of a bulb of garlic to me (near the base, you know, where the cloves break off)."
These three cracked me up:
Gina "It's either garlic or a scary onion. :)"
Looloo "blaaaaaaagh its a partial pic of a moth body and his crusty wing.
Rusv "When I first saw it, I thought, Oh, I didn't know Boston had a snow storm! It looked like lots of snow over a wood pile with some barbed wire in the background...After reading the other comments, though, I can definitely see that it is most likely a bulb of garlic, and I need serious psychological counseling...:)"
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
And this is what it was cropped from:
(You'll have to click on the picture to make it large enough to see the spot of rot; it's just about right in the middle)No one got this correct, but rampantbicycle came closest: "A sickly leaf?"
Ari's comment, "I don't know what this new photo is of but I do see a screaming face in it. Isn't that wierd?" cracked me up (I saw the same thing!) as did Heather's: "I think it's a halloween blob monster that forgot to come out on time - he's a little late that's all. ;)"; it reminded me of my cousin Mel's blob story!
As always, thanks for playing; also, many thanks to Laura for reminding me it was Wednesday!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:And this is what it was cropped from:
MissMeliss got it correct! She said, "It looks like something made of milk glass to me..." The rest of you, with your vibrator guesses? ROFLMAO! You all made me laugh!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
And this one wasn't cropped at all.
JG, who is owned by TWO shibas, got it right immediately! She said, "the back of a cat - like with it's head down?" Yup, that's it! I thought you all would either see a) an animal paw or b) a makeup brush, which is what I thought when I first saw the picture I'd taken LOL! But you lot are much smarter :-) Practically everyone got it correct, good on ya!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
This is what it was cropped from:
Although many of you said "lips" "lip prints" or "lichen" the only one to put it together was Lisa who said, "Lips made from lichen! " Carl simultaneously made me laugh and retch by saying "I suspect you recently told your boss to "kiss my ass!" and that this is the microscopic proof that said act did indeed occur.".
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
This is what it was cropped from:
DebR got it correct again this week, "Rooster comb?" Carmen made me laugh by saying "Your ex's heart. ha ha ha."' but I want to know who "Seurat the Dot" is!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
This is what it was cropped from:
DebR got this one, "I think it's the droppings of a berry-eating bird, smeared on a windshield." Carl said, "Although I figured you were a much sweeter person I realize we all have a dark side. That's the heart of your ex on the cutting board, isn't it?!?!??" which cracked me up for two reasons...1) that he thought I was sweet and 2) that my ex's heart would be that big ;-) Cudos to all who said it looked like a heart; that's what I thought, too!

(I'll do the recipes I promised from the 13 cookbooks in November!

Here's last Wednesday's picture:
This is what it was cropped from:
and here's the finished product:
Maribeth got this right, "I told you not to show your belly button like that!", but as she's not seen my bellybutton in years and as the tattoo is not mine, I don't know how she did! There were quite a few guesses this week that made me laugh, here are two from quite different points of view:
Carl said, "It is a poster for The Vagina Monolouges, isn't it?"
MaryEllen said, "It's LOU!!!!!"
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
This is what it was cropped from:
Michelle, aka the Big Cheater, got it right, but it's not fair to guess when one "has prior knowledge" as rampantbicycle said, right? So the real winner is: Carmen, closely followed by most of the rest of you LOL! Carmen said "Is it one of those 'Smores statues?"! Sure is! Laura's comment "THAT my dear is a bar of dark chocolate held HIGH up on a pedastle for all the world to worship - RIGHT where it belongs....", Maribeth's comment "Your personal shrine to Snape" and Colleen G's comment, which combined Laura's & Maribeth's "LOL on Maribeths' guess. But I think Janet's shrine to Snape would be slick black ebony with manacles and other intriguing objects. ;-) [Colleen...have you been peeking in my window?] And as for this one, I must agree with Laura who said it's dark chocolate, high up where we all can pay homage to it." just cracked me up...as did Carl's, who managed to mention Christ, the Virgin Mary AND Richard Nixon in his guess ROFLMAO!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
This is what it was cropped from:
DebR got it right! She said "Looks to me like some guy with a beard has just had something creamy (cake with frosting? cream pie? cheesecake?) smooshed into his face."! Most of the other comments cracked me up; it was a pretty gross looking picture!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
This is what it was cropped from:
Laura knew this one, as she was there when I took the picture! So even tho she refrained from guessing, she was the first one to know what it was (her second guess was quite amusing: "Janet......hun,....are you taking pictures looking UP one of the Rockette's dresses again?"! Second was Pam, who said: "I'm thinking that's the head of a person suffering from male pattern balness who happens to be wearing a tiara with boa feathers.". I don't think he was suffering from baldness LOL!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
This is what it was cropped from:
I can't believe so many of you got it right! Robin was the first, she said: "A sunflower center!"; followed quickly by 3 gazillion of you! That means this week, I need to make it a bit harder...
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
This is what it was cropped from:
Pam got it right this week, she said: "It's one of those light bulbs you find that have a reflective surface on the bottom so's not to overglare. You find them in restaurants...like Red Robin."; in fact, I did take this picture in a restaurant, Sweet Tomatoes in West Newton. I liked Monique's answer best: "...it's clearly the reflection of a room in the eye of a vampire.", cause y'all know I have a thang for vampires ;-) Thanks for playing!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
This is what it was cropped from:
My cousin guessed correctly, "This is easy for me. Should I say? It's two plums on my plum tree.", although I hardly think it was fair as it is her tree LOL, as did rampantbicycle "...hanging fruit, maybe?" and Dyane "Thinking they're plums...". As for the rest of you with your guesses of armpits, Smurf butts or tits, the firm buttocks of Blue Men and Mystique's thighs, I'm SHOCKED that not a one said blue balls! I have no one particular favorite this week, they were all pretty damn funny LOL! Thanks for playing :-)
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
This is what it was cropped from:
Here's a picture of the whole box:
rusvw guessed correctly, "hmmmmm....could it be a metal clasp that holds a top of a box shut with the faintest of securities?", as did Mel "It's a buckle or clasp of some sort.", rampantbicycle "Looks to me like one of those Asian - style clasps." and racerx "An ornamental metal clasp on a wooden box...:-) Rusvw has it right". Monique had the funniest answer for the second week in a row (sorry, Carl!): "hey, i bet that's the buckle on your chastity belt!". ROFLMAO!
This is what it was cropped from:
My cousin (who, btw, came thru her surgery with flying colors and is resting comfortably and looking vaguely pirate-like) calmly and logically stated: "It's a thread against skin.", and as you can see, she was right! rampantbicycle was the only other one to guess correctly: "A white thread?". I loved Monique's answer, tho: "...it could be the ethereal filament holding you to your soul mate...". Love the imagery of that!
And you can all blame Carmen for this, as she asked: "Could the clue be any smaller? ;)". Sure, Carmen, no problem at all!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
This is what it was cropped from:
Carmen was close; she said: "The purple patch in the picture is throwing me off. Maybe it's part of a shoe?", but Laura nailed it (mostly): "I think they are flip flops stacked on top of each other...". As you can see it was only one flip flop, but let's give it to her, shall we?
Here's last Wednesday's picture:

oops! I accidently deleted it from my flickr! Sorry!
This is what it was cropped from, tho:
Michele said: "Barnacles!" and she was right, along with most of the rest of you! Although...more than a few of you either have very overactive imaginations or dropped one too many hits of acid thought they were some type of alien or somesuch:
It looks like little beaked aliens hatching
its an invasion of body snatchers
Those are beaks of some sort of weird alien creatures as they hatch. I know I got this one right. I've seen these before on Labyrinth or Dark Crystal or in my neighbors back yard or somewhere, I'm sure of it!
creatures being hatched in a star wars movie...
I must confess I was a bit disapponted that with such a picture none of you commented in pirate-speak...sigh...
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
And what it was cropped from:
Michele: "I think maybe a moth? But really, I've no idea." answered it correctly, but indecisively; Amy suspiciously said: "I am going to go with the close up of a moth or butterfly...", while Michelle (with two Ls) said emphatically: "It is the close up of the furry *shudders* wing of a moth"
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
And what it was cropped from:
Most everyone guessed beer foam; Michelle: "It is the sweat on a martini glass of an xxx-dirty martini - see the little olive down in the corner?" & Pat: "EASY!!!!!!!!!! its an extra dirty martini with the corner of an olive showing" got it exactly, while TNChick deserves honorable mention: "Martini/Wine Glass, filled with something yummy. Or, a mug... I dunno."
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
And what it was cropped from:
EVERYONE guessed correctly last week! So I've made it a bit harder...I think?
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
And what it was cropped from:
kestrel's guess was closest...she said, "Hmm, my guess is some breed of backyard specter!". Very close--it was a front yard specter!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
And what it was cropped from:
Carmen guessed correctly this week! She said, "Is it a shroom in your yard?". As you can see, she's right about it being a mushroom, although it wasn't in my yard!
Here's last Wednesday's picture:
And what it was cropped from:

Amy, who was the first commenter, got it right! She said, "I think it looks like a dog tongue in the grass." Goofygirl was next to mention it, she said: "Hrmm I have no idea, but reading the comments I do think it might be a dog tongue. Looks pretty nasty tho!" Then Mel said, "I think it is part of a dog!" Not sure WHAT part she thought it was but it was a dog part!
Here's last Wednesday's solution:

Carmen who said, "I hardly ever get these things right." and T guessed correctly, well, partially LOL...it's a belly button, altho it doesn't belong to Papa Smurf!
Here's last Wednesday's solution:

Someone has a sense of humor, I saw this in the center of town while walking Wolf.
Hmmmm, what could this be?
Here's last Wednesday's solution:

Looks yummy, eh? My brother gave me all those goodies for Christmas.
Ok, this week I'm making it tougher, and I'm posting it a bit early so Lisa can see before she leaves for AZ!
Here's last Wednesday's solution:
Taken on a walk with my cousin in August of last year.
Here's today's:
