rampantbicycle was the first one of many to guess correctly; she said: "That looks like part of a bulb of garlic to me (near the base, you know, where the cloves break off)."

Since I am reading The Looking Glass Wars my first thought was a bloody jaberwock tooth.

Of course I really know its toenail fungus from Chicken Little that you stole from his chicken feet whilst taking pictures in Fla. Why you wanted to do so is beyond me.
