What Is It Wednesday #

Here's last Wednesday's picture:

6463a

And this is what it was cropped from:

6463

This belonged to my grandmother, I think (Mel? MB?) and it's from Fujian, China.

Michelle (aka birthday girl--Happy Birthday!!!): "It is a small wooden tree next to a small wooden japanese style piece of architecture a house or a resting place." was the first to get it right!

Wil was close: "A highly stylized Japanese garden woodcut within an oval frame...." quickly followed by Mel: "It's a Japanese wood carving scene." and then DebR: "Oh, I bet this is one of those little Japanese scenes carved from Balsa wood and put into a little glass box. "

As always, thanks for playing! By the way, all photos used in What Is It Wednesday are marked as "private" in my flickr account...that's so no one can view the picture at a bigger size to get a better look!

So this week...

What is it?

It's a wick stuck in the butt-end of a candle that is made to look like a summer sausage. :-) Or maybe it's a dessicated pig's tail?

A poor little worm got stuck in something and fossilized. Is that even a word?

looks like a petrified slug in a piece of stone....

Some sort of dried fruit.

It reminds me of a stone fetus of a dog. I saw a show the other day on people whose bones turn to stone. Stone people I think is how they termed it.

I just can't believe it is a slug on top of a moldy loaf of pumpernickel, but then again, I can't seem to see anything else in there (much to my sorrow).

Uuuuhhhh...
Damn.
I don't even have a creatively smartass answer this week, never mind a genuine guess. What IS that thing??

Posted by DebR at October 10, 2007 12:55 AM

Looks like a fossile with a dead worm on the top

A dried up date? And no, I am not refering to my last romantic encounter! LOL

Posted by SilverWillow at October 10, 2007 5:48 AM

It is either (a) some kind of gourd or (b) a rock with a slug on it.

Posted by Michelle at October 10, 2007 6:35 AM

that's one hell of an ugly belly-button!

(the reasonable side of me wants to say it's a date, like what we always snacked on at thanksgiving time)

That's the worst geriatric toenail EVER dude.

Posted by ME at October 10, 2007 9:47 AM

It's a partially spoiled piece of fruit apple or plum with a small dead worm coming out of it.....MMMMmmmmmm

Posted by RacerX at October 10, 2007 11:07 AM

Hmmm...could it be that mummified baby that crazy family keeps as an heirloom in NH??

Posted by Robin at October 10, 2007 2:33 PM

I am going with a slug on the bottom of a rock?

Posted by Jenn at October 10, 2007 4:20 PM
