Thirteen Supernatural Song Lyrics and Slightly Scary Quotes

I thought I'd dredge up some of my spooky, scary or Halloweeny T13s in honor of October! This one might make you work a bit, if you're so inclined; name either the song, the artist or the person being quoted...10 points if you know what a "snib" is!

1. "All the vampires walkin' through the valley / Move west down Ventura Boulevard"

2. "I saw a werewolf with a Chinese menu in his hand / Walking through the streets of Soho in the rain / He was looking for a place called Lee Ho Fook's / Going to get himself a big dish of beef chow mein"

3. "girl I'm just a jeepster for your love / I said girl I'm just a vampire for your love / I'm gonna suck you"

4. "Vampires, mummies and the Holy Ghost / These are the things that terrify me the most / No aliens, psychopath or MTV hosts / Scare me like vampires, mummies and the Holy Ghost"

5. "Just like a ghost, you've been a-hauntin' my dreams / But now I know, you're not what you seem. / Love is kinda crazy with a spooky little girl like you."

6. "From my laboratory in the castle east / To the master bedroom where the vampires feast / The ghouls all came from their humble abodes / To get a jolt from my electrodes"

7. "She likes the dark / On her milk white neck / The Devil's mark / It's all Hallows Eve / The moon is full / Will she trick or treat / I bet she will"

8. "If you cannot get rid of the family skeleton, you may as well make it dance."

9. "A house is never still in darkness to those who listen intently; there is a whispering in distant chambers, an unearthly hand presses the snib of the window, the latch rises. Ghosts were created when the first man awoke in the night."

10. "One need not be a chamber to be haunted; One need not be a house; The brain has corridors surpassing Material place."

11. "By the pricking of my thumbs / Something wicked this way comes."

12. "Dreams in which there came the howl of hunting wolves and the cries of goblins."

13. "My mind is wrought to a fever by the moonbeam that hangs o'er."

Ooooh, you've just reminded me to pull out my Hallowe'en mix cd! Thanks!

Posted by Court at October 3, 2007 7:35 PM

Woohoo...!!!! Scary!!! Some sound familiar, others are unknown to me, but all are worth quoting!
Thanks for visiting my Tolkien quotes TT. If you look into it, the Harry Potter books show a lot of similarities to the LoTR-trilogy

Posted by Tink at October 3, 2007 7:36 PM

I know the first one is Tom Petty and I can't think of the song...It's driving me crazy! Great list!

Posted by Nap Warden at October 3, 2007 7:40 PM

2. Werewolves of London
3. Jeepster - T Rex :)
5. Spooky
6. Something from that show with the Time Warp?
11. Shakespeare

A snib is the thing that holds a window or door closed or open.

Yikes...

Posted by ellen b at October 3, 2007 8:25 PM

Fun list. I have never heard any of those except #11 of course. Good old Shakespeare! Macbeth was always my favourite.

Love, love that picture!

Posted by Lisa at October 3, 2007 9:06 PM

Interesting list you got here! Unfortunately I don't have any clue! Yup, poor thing:) I heard some of them but never pay attention!

Happy TT!

Posted by Yen at October 3, 2007 9:46 PM

I am in the same boat as Yen...no clue, but a great list!

I finally did a TT again this week.

Posted by tommiea at October 3, 2007 9:53 PM

YES, I missed you last week!

I got the Tom Petty (Freefalling) and Lou Reed, of course. But the rest... I only wish! You trip me up time and again, you stinker!

Happy TT, babe!

I only knew Werewolves of London, but can I say that a few sounded familiar?

Doesn't feel like fall in New England, does it?

Posted by Jenny McB at October 3, 2007 10:12 PM

Wow, this was so much fun to read this week! Great idea!

Posted by WFMom at October 3, 2007 10:24 PM

What a great, evocative and spooky TT!

Posted by The Gal Herself at October 3, 2007 11:25 PM

That just proves I need to listen to the lyrics closer...lol. Great list. Happy TT.

Posted by Lori at October 3, 2007 11:26 PM

Man, I sucked at this one. The only ones I knew were number 1 (I'm freeeee....freeee fallin'...) and number 2, Werewolves of London ("...and his hair was perfect...")

Posted by DebR at October 3, 2007 11:42 PM

I knew some of those, too, but not all of them -- very cool lyrics! And wonderfully Halloweeny!

Happy T13, and thanks for visiting mine!

Posted by Thomma Lyn at October 4, 2007 2:30 AM

Haha, I do not know any of those!

Freaky banner! :)

Posted by Chelle Y. at October 4, 2007 2:56 AM

Love the lyrics although I am lost!! Love nr 8 :)

Posted by mar at October 4, 2007 2:57 AM

Great TT! I really enjoyed reading your list, but, apart from the Shakespeare and Monster Mash, I'm at a loss!
Thanks for visiting my TT, btw.

Posted by amypalko at October 4, 2007 4:41 AM

The first one is Free Falling...the rest I'd have to look up. It's funny though, how little I actually listen to the lyric of songs.

Posted by Christine d'Abo at October 4, 2007 7:39 AM

Fun! I only had to google a few...

1. Free Fallin’, Tom Petty
2. Werewolves of London, Warren Zevon
3. Jeepster, T-Rex
4. Vampires, mummies and the Holy Ghost, Jimmy Buffett
5. "Just like a ghost, you've been a-hauntin' my dreams / But now I know, you're not what you seem. / Love is kinda crazy with a spooky little girl like you."
6. Monster Mash, Boris Pickett
7. Black No. 1, Type O Negative
8. George Bernard Shaw
9. J.M. Barrie
10. Emily Dickinson
11. Macbeth
12. J.R.R. Tolkien
13. Edgar Allen Poe

Posted by Michele at October 4, 2007 8:32 AM

Color me impressed. I only knew the first two songs and that #11 was Shakespeare. And apparently I do know "Spooky," but the quote meant nothing to me!

Posted by Finn at October 4, 2007 9:23 AM

Wow, Michele rocks. I especially liked #2.

Posted by Ann Aguirre at October 4, 2007 9:59 AM

Posted by Gattina at October 4, 2007 10:23 AM

I guess I need to teach my skeletons to dance ;)

Posted by Yuriko at October 4, 2007 11:05 AM

A great list of quotes...and how happy am I that people still know "the Monster Mash"? My first encounter with it was in the Sixties, via the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band... Sigh. Gone but not forgotten...

thanks for visiting cockney rob's first T13 at our blog; he needs all the encouragement he can get

Posted by Damozel at October 4, 2007 11:49 AM

What a great list!! How very fun.

(I love vampires!)

Happy TT

Posted by Open Grove Claudia at October 4, 2007 12:42 PM

Give me a dunce cap. Maybe it will give me some wizardy powers.

Posted by colleen at October 4, 2007 1:14 PM

#1 is "Free Falling"
#2 Werewolf in England?" Or is it London?
#3 This one is easy....ummmmm, Jeepster?
#4 I know Buffet sings it. I think the title is the same...vampires, mummies and holy ghost?
#5-----wish I had more time....this is fun. But hubby has my lunch on the table!!! Gotta go...

Glad you liked my Phone Conversation T T!!! Happy day to you.

Posted by Hootin' Anni at October 4, 2007 1:50 PM

I've heard of afew of those, but couldn't even begin to say where until I started seeing other's guesses and then they started hitting me.

Great list ... mine's up.

Posted by Kristen at October 4, 2007 3:04 PM

These are perfectly 'spooky' for Halloween.

I especially liked #8 and #13! I've heard some of these before, but can't place them. Thanks to Michele for the answers.

Cool TT!

Posted by Christine at October 4, 2007 3:09 PM

I'm glad someone found the answers already because my heads so like #13 tonight I couldn't get one of them and there are several there I would normally get...

Great TT :-)

Posted by Mark Caldwell at October 4, 2007 3:31 PM

Id have to cheat to get any of these! Im reading a great book btw, beyond black.

Posted by loo at October 4, 2007 3:36 PM

Hahhah this one made me laugh : "I saw a werewolf with a Chinese menu in his hand / Walking through the streets of Soho in the rain / He was looking for a place called Lee Ho Fook's / Going to get himself a big dish of beef chow mein"

And even better is imaging a werewolf walking around with a chinese food box in his hand! I wonder if they use chopsticks?

Posted by goofy girl at October 4, 2007 5:59 PM

Hmmm... A lot of these seem familiar, but these are the only ones I could come up with at the moment:

1. Tom Petty - Free Fallin'
6. Monster Mash
8. George Bernard Shaw
11. Macbeth - Shakespear

Thanks for visiting my TT! :-)

Posted by L-Squared at October 4, 2007 6:26 PM

Creepy!!! Love this list idea :) So what is a snib???

Posted by Sue at October 4, 2007 8:13 PM

A snib is a dreadful person who hates children who pick flowers and bangs on your door late at night to intrude.

I really like the George Bernard Shaw quote; my Gram told me that he is a distant relative. I never know what to believe, but her family did come from England "The Shaws".

I need some new music desperately, so I might have to download some of these songs when your answers come up. I feel like I wanna throw out all my old cds for some reason...

I'm so glad your back!!!

Posted by Sword Girl at October 4, 2007 9:06 PM

I feel so uncool. Don't know any of those! But you did put "Don't Fear the Reaper" in my head, just about the scariest song I can think of, so that's good :)

Thx for the congrats over at Ann's blog. I really appreciate it!

Posted by Carrie Lofty at October 4, 2007 10:29 PM

Great TT! Sorry I didn't comment the first time around. I was out of comment steam and had a cranky grandbaby (colick and teething, poor thing) Thanks for coming by my tattoo TT. (I responded to you back there, too) I missed you this week at Thorne's World, though!!

Posted by Thorne at October 4, 2007 10:51 PM

Well, just off of the top of my head:
1. Tom Petty - Freefallin'
2. Werewolves of London - Warren Zevon (it's on the Excitable Boy Album. I have that one. Lawyers Guns and Money!)
6. The Monster Mash

Great list!

Posted by Elisa at October 5, 2007 2:45 AM

FUN! FUN! FUN! I can hear all these songs in my head now. THANKS! Wish I could remember the titles.
