I don't know if I mentioned it here, but I'm taking a photography class, Digital Photography II. The class description goes like this:
This course will explore the world of digital photography and how it differs from (and is sometimes the same as) film photography. The class will get photo assignments each week. Bring in digital photos which we will view on our projector, and discuss the merits and problems of the work. The class will be much like the film photography classes we have, but the medium here is digital. Since photo enhancing, adjusting, and retouching are part of the kit of tools available to the digital photographer, we will be using Adobe Photoshop and its magical kit of tools to help correct and adjust our photos where needed. However, the primary thrust of the class will be photographic techniques, with mechanical enhancements as an added, but secondary, attraction.
Last Thursday was the second class, and the first where we had homework. Our assignment was to bring in no more than 8 portrait shots and he would critique them.
He had a criticism on only one picture, the one of the woman holding the orange. He said that as she seems to be offering the orange to the viewer, it needed to be in focus, too. I agree!
This Thursday, our homework is "Portraits, non-human" and he wants us to use macro. I went to the flower show in Boston on Saturday...guess what my subject will be?

What's Macro?
Yay! Another photographer. You have a great eye. Would you mind terribly if I added you to my link list.
by the way...someone named Janet commented on my blog...was that you?

I especially like the picture "Eyes"! What great pictures! :-)
This is GREAT for you!!!! Maybe YOU can teach THEM a thing or two!
Oh thats so awesome! whats macro?
Ooo sounds like it's going well! I can't wait to see your pics from this weekend!
i love the pictures! you do great work!
Ohhh...I can't wait to see more! It's like I am at a gallery showing! Your portraits are wonderful. I especially love the girl with the dog. You captured quite an amazing expression from both girl and dog!!!
I really like the one of the mother and baby, actually I like all of them that one is just striking...enjoy your class, sounds like fun :)
Of all the people that need a photography class, I didn't think you were one of them. :) I guess it's good to get feedback, though
I REALLY want you to come up and take some pictures of Anneliese and Arnie. I have trouble getting them to pose for me and I know if I posed them you can shoot them. We'd make a great photography team!
These are great Janet- really terrific. You have a knack for portraits! That is certainly one of my weak spots. I think you've inspired me to take that step and sign up for a class soon. As you've been taking photos for so long, do you feel like you are getting a lot from the class? You are already so good!
Love the portraits...and hmmmm...I am going to guess flowers?
I so want to take photography classes!! Your shots are wonderful! I can't wait to see the macro flower shots! Of course they will be wonderful! Looking forward to seeing what you capture!
I'm so proud of you :)
The lady with the orange is my favorite one. Nice composition. I prefer to use film but thats because I develope my own photos and I like to have so much control over them. I sometimes work on them digitally afterward though, that can be helpful.
Good for you. Those are great pics. I hope the class is fun and beneficial for you.
Oh, those are great! I like the young lady with the pup the best, I think...
