This is the reason I wanted to take a photography class. I KNOW this should be crisper and clearer...I should've used manual and not auto focus. I wanted the whole flower in focus, but because the bottom part juts out more than the top, I need to take that into consideration.
There were SO many orchids of every color and type at the show. I was in heaven wandering around taking pictures. Ran into a coworker there and she politely waited til I was done before she said hi.
Also on the work front, I got my own office today! To say I'm happy, well...it's a bit of an understatement. I'm NOT anti-social, but I do love my alone time, my quiet time...and I wasn't getting any of that sharing an office will what will hopefully be my last office mate. She and I are total opposites...I'm sure we'd get along in a social setting, just not sharing a space 8 hours a day.

Congrats on your own office! :D
Nice orchid.
I know what you mean about getting the right settings - I haven't had my camera long enough to work out all the things it can do. Auto is too easy, but it makes me lazy.
So now that you have your own office, are you one of those people who fling the sharpened pencils up into the ceiling tiles?
I have my own office too...however, my co-worker seems to spend more time in there than I do.......
.....Im thinking of installing and electric fence or maybe mouse traps.....as a deterent
This shot has a beautiful bokeh and I know what you mean about getting the right DoF. That's a huge challenge for me. I love orchids too- the show must have been awesome!
Congrats on getting your own office. I think you are going to love having your own space.
That is beautiful!
i think it's a great picture anyway. But what do I know?
You had to share an office? That sucks. Glad you're on your own again.
So many sexual remarks about the orchid are being repressed right now I could burst! It's a great one.
Okay, am I the only person that wants to smack you upside the head and say 'quit criticizing your work!'. This is FANTASTIC!!!
Manual settings drive me up the wall, and I'm still learning them! I have a Canon EOS, it can be intimidating in manual setup.
I really could use a photography class or two or three.
The orchid, however, is beautiful!
The picture is beautiful. Everything does not have to be in focus. In order to have the background out of focus, you needed to have the apeture wide open. There's no way the bit that was farther back could have stayed in perfect focus. It's impossible.
It's a great picture, really.
you've got so much more talent than you give yourself credit for! (shut up)
yay on your own office... now you can burp, clip your nails and snap your gum in peace! =)
Congratulations on your own office space! The picture is so amazing! It looks like sunshine in the center. Did your camera do that, or is it like that on the flower?
Congratulations on getting your own office!
As for the photo - I think it's lovely. I *do* appreciate a nice orchid!
I can sympathize with your desire to take classes though. Have you considered setting up tableaus and just shooting at different settings? That's the way I figured out what I like to use for close up detail shots and landscapes..
Your own office?!?! Lucky duck!
