Thirteen Scents from Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab that I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of!

1. R.M. Renfield: A mixture of moss, cumin, patchouli, Balsam of Peru (a resin which has a complex aroma consisting chiefly of cinnamon and vanilla notes with a slight floral character) and neroli (spicy aroma with sweet and flowery notes). Renfield is a character in Bram Stoker's novel, Dracula.

2. Anathema: Black opium, with vetivert and honeysuckle. Had to look up vetivert: Deep, warm, smoky, earthy, woody with some sweetness. Perhaps damp earth combined with burnt wood and molasses.

3. Sed Non Satiata: Myrrh, red patchouli, cognac, honey, tuberose, geranium and musk. This one generally got rave reviews on the BPAL Board

4. Severin: Dry black teas, Earl Gray, and leather (Severin is a character in a book by Leopold von Sacher-Masoch)

5. O: Amber and honey with a touch of vanilla.

6. Jolly Roger: Sea spray with an undercurrent of leather, Bay Rum, and salty, dry woods (yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me!)

7. Bengal: Musk with honey, peppers, clove, cinnamon bark and ginger.

8. Midnight: Evening primrose, ruellia, flowering nicotiana, wild petunia, panani-o-kai (also known as night blooming Cereus), night phlox, night gladiolus, moonflower and the elusive scent of Nottingham Catchfly (sweet and reminiscent of hyacinths).

9. Hetairae: Honey, fiery patchouli, sweet fig, clove and ylang ylang.

10. Morocco: Arabian spices wind through a blend of warm musk, carnation, red sandalwood and cassia

11. Blood Kiss: Lush, creamy vanilla and the honey of the sweetest kiss smeared with the vital throb of husky clove, swollen red cherries, but darkened with the vampiric sensuality of vetiver, soporific poppy and blood red wine, and a skin-light pulse of feral musk.

12. Vixen: The innocence of orange blossom tainted by the beguiling scents of ginger and patchouli.

13. Dragon's Blood: A bright red resin that is obtained from certain plants (Dracaena and Daemonorops being the main two). This scent of this resin alone intrigues me, but BPAL mixes it with various other scents which sound like they would smell SO good: Dragon's Claw: Adds three sandalwoods to the mix; Dragon's Eye: Adds lily of the valley, lilac and galbanum ("fixes and enhances the substances with which it is mixed; its aroma is resinous, balsamic, green, sharp and intense"; good for calming anxiety); Dragon's Hide: Adds leather and a hint of smoke and finally, Dragon's Milk: Adds honeyed vanilla. Yum!

I don't get it. What are you going to do with all of these unusual (well, to me; maybe I live under a rock. A scentless rock) things???

Posted by Susan Helene Gottfried at January 17, 2007 10:33 PM

Very witchy. Do you wear them or burn them?

Posted by colleen at January 17, 2007 10:56 PM

Those actually sound pretty interesting. My supplier of good, nonsynthetic essential oils went all mainstream on me a few years back, and I have yet to find a new supplier. Maybe I have..!

Dragon's Blood!? Wow...great TT! :)
Mine's up, 13 words my 4 year old mispronounces!

My nose is congested after smelling 13 scents !

Alright: This Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab sounds really cool! I think the next step is doing a review on each scent so we can know which ones to purchase. ;)

Happy Thursday to you!

Huh? :)

After all these years, I just read the first Harry Potter book! It was good!

I am also a fan of these scents. I love almost anything mixed with sandalwood.

Posted by Jenn at January 18, 2007 6:52 AM

You are so lucky you can wear different scents. I have only a few that don't make me sneeze!

Posted by Maribeth at January 18, 2007 7:01 AM

I would love to know what the Blood Kiss is like. It sounds/smells so wild to my senses! Very different list! I like it!

The beauty of TT is the diversity...words a 4 year old mispronounces, my 13 songs for my iPod on a desert island and your scents. No one should ever struggle to find a TT topic!

Janet,

They all sound divine, but tonight I'm most intrigued by Blood Kiss...what does that say about me?!

Posted by Vernicious Knids at January 18, 2007 10:03 AM

I've checked out this site but am not entirely sure about purchase scents if I can't wear them for a bit first. I'm a tester kinda girl.

Plus I have no idea what some of these things are...

Posted by Finn at January 18, 2007 10:13 AM

Oooh...the Severin sounds great. ('course that could also be because it sounds so much like Severus...*wink*).

Wish we could somehow smell those scents over the net...

My TT's up….Thirteen Albums from the 80s I have hanging on my wall.

Those scents have crazy descriptions! I don't know if I would like them, I like the smell of gillette deodorant best. ;)

Posted by goofy girl at January 18, 2007 10:22 AM

...and you ARE going to tell us what you think of them, right? ;)

Posted by rampantbicycle at January 18, 2007 10:32 AM

These sound facsinating! I'd love to smell all of these for myself (although patchouli doesn't seem to agree with my nose)! I agree with some of the other commenters - we need reviews!

Some of those sound yummy!

I recall Renfield from Stoker's Dracula...but I think the scent that sounds most appealing to me is the Severin- I love the smell of Earl Gray and leather. I'm going to go check that place out!

What an awesome list and names for aromas...I am curious about "O" I wonder if it's named afte an erotic novel of the 1950's I bet it is...

I watched the pirates movies last week while visiting my daughter and I thought about you...I really have to say they are so excellent the comedy and writing is so good I actually had almost forgotten how excellent they are.

I was out of town on business and really not able to be online for the last couple of weeks...sorry i haven't been around and my gosh...when I got home early No EARLY yesterday morning...what a wonderful surprise I had waiting for me. Thank you so much for your fun thoughtful package, I am really thrilled...now to find a special fun way to reciprocate, and oh I WILL my dear!!!!!

So many of my friends are into BPAL and I've never gotten into it. Hope you enjoy your scents when you get them!

Happy TT!

Interesting, what do you do with the oil? Do you make candles, lotions, ect.?

Posted by Scooper at January 18, 2007 11:39 AM

In Eastern astrology, the dragon is the soulmate of the rooster, according to Shelly Wu. That is neat how the dragon's blood is one of your scents.

I love the descriptions of the smells.

Hmm.. I just like the pic of Capt. Jack at the top.. LOL

Can you forgive me?
