Just another path...
One of my favorite scenes in Lord of the Rings: Return of the King was this exchange between Gandalf and Pippin:

Pippin: I didn't think it would end this way.
Gandalf: End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path... One that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass... And then you see it.
Pippin: What? Gandalf?... See what?
Gandalf: White shores... and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise.
Pippin: [smiling] Well, that isn't so bad.
Gandalf: [softly] No... No it isn't.

Friday night I went to my work Christmas party. That's all I got to say about that, as Forrest Gump would say. Afterward, went to see The Pursuit of Happyness; go see this movie! Will Smith was just amazing, as was his son!

Saturday, I took Dad and the dogs to Salisbury; Dad stayed in the van and the dogs and I had a quick romp. Max jumped up on some lady and I was reminded of Deb's reaction to the slobbering lab that jumped on her at Plum Island...let's just say she was none too happy. Watched bits and pieces LOTR and caught up on my Tivo'd Supernatural shows.

Sunday I took Dad out for breakfast, placed some flowers on Mom's grave (I want to thank each and every one of you who commented on Sunday's post and sent well wishes to me, I VERY much appreciated your thoughtfulness, thank you!), finished watching Supernatural, and caught more bits and pieces of LOTR. A friend from FL called me today, too, just to let me know he was thinking of me and missing Mom, as he'd been close to her. His wife sent me pictures of the puppies their dogs just had:

German Shepherd pups
Aren't they so cute!

Today I called in sick to work; I'm on some new medication that quite frankly is making me a bit dizzy and a bit nauseous. The latter I welcome, I've not eaten much at all. The former? Well, not so much. Took it easy most of the day, finished up the last bunch of Christmas cards, finally. No silver embossed snowflakes this year, not even any pictures of the dogs. Sorry! At the last minute, went to the movies with Megan; we saw Casino Royale and...O.M.G.! That is one HOT Bond!!! My favorite used to be Sean Connery...oh my, sorry but that Daniel Craig is yummy! I don't want to ruin anything for those of you that might not have seen it...but my favorite scene is when he's sitting in the chair with no seat. HOLY MOG!

I love that part of the movie. Pippin is adorable, and who doesn't love Gandalf!!

I have ALL the LOTR DVDS - much of the filming was done in the region I live in, plus I've always been a big Tolkien fan. You take care Janet, and have a great Christmas.

Are you bringing "The Bishops Wife" up with you? DO you have it? I don't have it, and it's not on TV until Christmas night! Oh no!

Glad you had some R&R this weekend. Hang in there.
Love you!

Hope you are feeling better soon- sounds like you needed some down time. I haven't seen either of those movies, but they both sound great. I've always been a Sean Connery fan too, so I must go check out this new Bond.

The pups are just way too cute. Little bundles of happiness in every furry fluff-ball!

Well, you may have just given me reason to go see a Bond movie. ;) he he.

THAT's your favorite scene? Oh my, you are one sadistic witch. I mean, he was looking good there for a min or so until the rope came out....
HOLYMOTHEROFALLTHATISSACRED

And, as soon as they started cutting the seat...I knew precisely what they were going to do...what does that say about moí?

What kind of pups are those....they look like G. Shephards.
Hope you get to feeling better Janet. Sending you love

Hope you are feeling better.

The pups are adorable... makes me wish I could have one. Can't in this place. But someday.

Glad you enjoyed the new Bond movie, it was very well done.

I love that scene in the LOTR as well. You can hear the 'Into the West' theme music ever so slightly in the background and it is such a wonderful, hope-filled moment in the midst of chaos.

I better stop now or I'll go all LOTR crazy again!!!

Those puppies are adorable. I'm such a total sucker for puppies. Every time I see one I think I want one, even though I know I really don't. (Does that make sense??)

I know exactly what you mean about DC and Bond. Whew!! (fanning myself) You need to go read my review of it now that you've seen it. (On my blog look for the category that says "on the screen" and it should be the first of second post on that page.)

We noticed that you were MIA and we missed you! Hope you are feeling better! Sounds like you had a good weekend..

*pets imaginarily-present pups* So cute. :)

Darn it, they sold out of the thing I found! Sorry, Janet - it was this cool home lightboxy thing and I thought you should know it existed. Why they took the photo down when they sold out, I don't know, but it was neat-looking, I swear.

I've always been fond of that bit of dialogue myself. I will confess to feeling a little...mmm...catchy-in-the-throat when it comes up.

Man, you've been as busy as I have! Take some time for yourself, will ya?

OOOOOOOOOH! PUPPIES!!!!!

Very cute puppies! Sounds like you had a great weekend. Glad that you made it through the weekend okay. Now I REALLY have to see the new Bond movie :-)

Posted by amy at December 19, 2006 7:45 PM

OMG those PUPPIES are adorable. It seems like there are puppies everywhere these days! Sorry to hear you are not feeling 100% - I hope it passes as your body adjusts to the new medication. I know there has been a mild "belly yucky" thing going around too. Blech!

Posted by Michelle at December 19, 2006 8:36 PM

What, or where? is Salisbury? Sounds like a park where the dogs could romp!
HOpe you're feeling better!
I haven't been able to take pics lately and it's killing me!! I need a few hours alone to just get out there and shoot!

Posted by Laura at December 20, 2006 8:58 AM

Gandalf rules!

The puppies are sooo cute!

Hope you are feeling better from your medicine soon!

That exchange is my fave from Return of the King as well. I also like one of Frodo's last internal monologues:

'How do you pick up the threads of an old life? How do you go on, when in your heart, you begin to understand... there is no going back? There are some things that time cannot mend. Some hurts that go too deep.'

And then there is my favorite line in the trilogy from Faramir: 'War will make corpses of us all'.
