Thursday Thirteen #75
snape
Thirteen Things I love that begin with the letter S

1. Severus Snape: One of my favorite characters ever, more so in the movie, because of the brilliant Alan Rickman, than in the books. I still think he'll be redeemed in the last book (just 10 more days!!!)

2. Shadows: In the heat of the summertime, is there anything better than a cool shadow to take refuge in?

3. Skeletons: I have a fixation with skeletons...they're creepy but I'm drawn to them.

4. Seaside: Where I wish I was now!

5. Sparkly: I think I was a magpie in a previous life; I LOVE all things sparkly!

6. Shooting Star: I love to sit around a campfire staring at the sky, waiting to see one.

7. Shrimp: Peel and eat with an ice cold beer!!! Delish! Also: Bubba, from Forest Gump: Anyway, like I was sayin', shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey's uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That- that's about it.

8. Silence: Oh, how I crave it! I'm this close to hopping in my car Friday night at midnight, getting the new Potter book and driving up to the beach to read.

9. Salisbury: One of my favorite beaches on the off season to walk the dogs...and I have MANY fond memories from a club I frequented called The Frolics, which is no longer there.

10. Salt: Oh, what a yummy mineral and it's pretty, too!

11. Silence of the Lambs: One of my favorite movies...Dr. Hannibal Lecter is a villain you love to watch!

12. Silver: There's something about silver that's very eye catching for me. Must be the sparkly magpie thing LOL!

13. Sleeping: "To sleep, perchance to dream-ay, there's the rub." - Shakespeare, from Hamlet (III, i, 65-68)

I really ought to be doing #13 by now...

Great list

Posted by Mark Caldwell at July 11, 2007 7:58 PM

What about Surf Drive Beach? Another S!

Posted by Maribeth at July 11, 2007 8:17 PM

This is where we differ - I am so not a fan of Alan Rickman, although I did think he was funny in Galaxy Quest.

Skeletons in the closet?

Posted by Julie at July 11, 2007 8:42 PM

I always think of the pretty cathedral at Salisbury, England, when I see the name. (Funnily enough.)

I need more #13...yawn...

(I share your hopes re: Snape's redemption as well, of course. Soon!)

Posted by rampant bicycle at July 11, 2007 8:51 PM

What a great idea for a list! I love this! I'm so excited for the last HP book as well. Thanks for coming to my TT.

Posted by Andrea at July 11, 2007 9:32 PM

I just finished reading the book Stiff and you mentioning a skeleton made me think of it. Didn't you read that?

I love Silence of the Lambs. Hannibal is fascinating.

I love silver more than gold and wear it (or white gold) almost exclusively. The only thing I wear that is yellow gold is my "wedding" ring. :)

Posted by Lisa at July 11, 2007 9:33 PM

I really enjoy the Hannibal stories too. Have you seen Hannibal Rising yet? I'm curious about it. To see him growing up.

I LOVE silence too! That is a very good idea you have to get the book at midnight and go to the beach to read! I can't wait to see OOTP!!!

btw - I LOVE your Snape graphic!!! :D

Posted by Sword Girl at July 11, 2007 9:40 PM

I think you should get featured blog on your "S"!!!

Posted by Sword Girl at July 11, 2007 9:41 PM

I'd have been shocked if Snape hadn't been #1.

Ten more days? I'm trying not to think about it... I got my copy through a local indie bookstore, of course.

But... no song lyrics??? :(

Snape! Sleep! Both good things.

Happy Thursday, thanks for visiting me.

Posted by Lisa at July 11, 2007 9:56 PM

I love these alphabet lists because of your explanations. Sleep sounds real good right now!

Will you read Harry Potter right through?

Posted by Jenny at July 11, 2007 9:59 PM

That was very interesting. Now I know why you call yourself Fond of Snape.
Thanks for visiting.

Posted by Friday's Child at July 11, 2007 10:34 PM

What do you think will happen to Snape in the next harry potter? Will be be evil or good?! I'm dying to find out

Posted by Karen (Miscellaneous Mum) at July 11, 2007 11:07 PM

Oooh, I like this list. I like all those things too!

Posted by DebR at July 11, 2007 11:56 PM

Definitely think Snape will be redeemed. Even more so now that I've seen the movie

Posted by leslie at July 12, 2007 12:06 AM

I like pretty much all of these things too, except Shrimp (never been a fan of seafood). And I'd have to add my dog Stella to my s-list, of course. :-)

Posted by L-Squared at July 12, 2007 12:10 AM

You like skeletons ? but they are so edgy to hug, lol !

Posted by Gattina at July 12, 2007 12:13 AM

I don't think Snape will be exactly redeemed as it seems pretty clear he's been playing both sides against each other for his own benefit. But I do think that Dumbledore asked Snape to kill him to "prove" his loyalty to Voldemort. I personally think it makes Snape a more interesting character for him to be neither good nor evil but something in between.

Posted by Crimson Wife at July 12, 2007 12:25 AM

I don't like Alan Rickman at all, he is far too slimy. But maybe that is why he does such a good job of portraying Snape.

Posted by Jack at July 12, 2007 1:10 AM

It was all a set up between Dumbledore and Snape...clearly! He's taken the Malfoy kid out of harm's way---he'll do something heroic in the end (but let's hope, not fatal!) Snape! Snape! Snape!

Posted by Damozel at July 12, 2007 1:20 AM

I love sleep and Snape too!

I'll probably see you at the Universal Harry Potter theme park - I plan on living there LOL

Stop by incredible shrinking ladies - I had a HUGE Harry Potter Party for my daughter's 11th birthday in May, we rented a hall, took a year to plan, shopped at diagon alley, 9 classes, wizard tournament, huge feast, castle cake - 6 hours party and the kids had a blast every minute! More adults in costume then kids. :)

Posted by Lady Rose at July 12, 2007 3:43 AM

I'm too much of a Scaredy-Cat (see, there's another S word) to ever see Silence of the Lambs!

Posted by Robin at July 12, 2007 5:36 AM

I never would have guessed from your url that Snape would make an appearance ;)

Happy T13

Posted by Fence at July 12, 2007 5:48 AM

Another great list! I like most of those too. I'm going to the seaside in half an hour; I'm lucky to live close.
Thanks for visiting my essentials TT!

Posted by Tink at July 12, 2007 6:52 AM

great list....

yes, the seaside.....soft sandy shores........*sigh*

Posted by Laura at July 12, 2007 7:00 AM

Another great list. I always admire you for actually coming up with 13 things all beginning with the same letter. What'll you do when you're through with the alphabet in a few weeks? Start again?
Well, Snape was a no-brainer, of course. LOL
I'm really looking forward to the last HP book, too. If only in the hope of all this hype dying down a bit afterwards. But, ya know, that's just me being a curmudgeonly old bitch and everything. ;o)

Posted by samulli at July 12, 2007 7:36 AM

I love when you commit snapeicide

Posted by ME at July 12, 2007 8:20 AM

For me it's skeletons! I collect them .. :) Happy TT and thank you for stopping by!

Posted by Sue at July 12, 2007 9:17 AM

Shape was so totally hot, even more so than usual, in the last movie.

Posted by Faith at July 12, 2007 10:33 AM

Everything but Silence of the Lambs. I can't bring myself to watch it.

I'm so far away from the ocean now. It's Sad.

Posted by colleen at July 12, 2007 10:49 AM

What a wonderful TT13!
I love S words...my name starts with a S.

Posted by Suprina at July 12, 2007 11:24 AM

The Hannibal Lector series is my weakness. Especially Red Dragon.

Happy TT!

Be well and enjoy the day.

Trust Snape :)
And trust you to have him as #1 on your S-list.

Lovely, as always.

Posted by MissMeliss at July 12, 2007 3:41 PM

Great List. I think it's very thoughtful. I like some of those things too. :)

Posted by Denise at July 12, 2007 3:45 PM

Oh my, I'm shocked at your #1 (not!) I've missed quite a few letters...guess I'll have to do some achieve hunting to catch up. Sure hope you're right about Snape!
