Thirteen of My Favorite Movie Characters
1. Let's get the obvious of of the way first, Professor Snape from the Harry Potter movies. I know he's supposed to be a not so nice character...but oh my, that voice! I can see why Alan Rickman was Ms. Rowling's first choice for this character. I also really like the character of Professor Lupin, as portrayed by David Thewlis and the original Professor Dumbledore. RIchard Harris nailed that part...the new Dumbledore, not so much...not so much at all. A bit of advice to him: Read the books.
2. Aragorn from the LOTR Trilogy. A loner, with vast responsibilites weighing heavily on his shoulders. Not to mention Viggo Mortensen was tossed into the movies at the last second, and did a fantabulous job! My other favs from this movie are Orlando Bloom as Legoas, Karl Urban as Eomer (YUM!), Ian McKellen as Gandalf & Elijah Wood as Frodo.
3. Doc Holiday, from the movie Tombstone, as portrayed by Val Kilmer. Snarky wit does it for me every time! I also loved Val as Jim Morrison, in the movie The Doors and of course, Iceman from Top Gun.
4. Captain Jack Sparrow! No need to say anything more about this one :-) I also loved Depp's performance as Roux in Chocolat, Don Juan in Don Juan DeMarco, William Blake in Dead Man and Edward Scissorhands, the role that made me a Depp fan.
5. Maude from the movie Harold & Maude, as portrayed by Ruth Gordon. She made me laugh, she made me cry, she made me think.
6. Casanova, as portrayed by Heath Ledger, from the movie Casanova. Mmmmm...yummy!
7. Renton, as portrayed by Ewan McGregor in Trainspotting. The accent alone was enough to do it for me!
8. Katsumoto, as portrayed by Ken Watanabe, in The Last Samurai. His role intrigued me...and I wanted the camera to linger more on him then on Tom Cruisin' for a bruisin'.
9. Josephine 'Jo' March, as portrayed by Katherine Hepburn in Little Women. I wanted to be just like Jo!
10. Andrew Beckett, portrayed by Tom Hanks, and Joe Miller, portrayed by Denzel Washington, in the movie, Philadelphia. The emotion in both their characters...amazing. What an awesome movie!
11. Captain Daniel Gregg, portrayed by Rex Harrison in The Ghost & Mrs. Muir. Stubborn ghost!
12. The Ghost of Christmas Present, as portrayed by Carol Kane in the movie Scrooged. She is so damn funny!
13. Finally, Count Dracula, as portrayed by Frank Langella, in the movie Dracula. That was one sexy vampire!

I adore many of these movies--I loved Mause, and I'd add Rosalynd (sp?) Russell in Auntie Mame.
Happy TT!
Ahhh....the wonderful Mrs. Kaufman/Carol Kane! "I'm so glad I wore my pretty dress!!" I also loved her in The Princess Bride: a much smaller role, but still very good.
Did you see that Heath Ledger's going to play The Joker in the next Batman movie? I saw that movie when I saw the supporting cast: Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Liam Neeson, Ken Watanabe, Gary Oldman, Cillian Murphy...now I have faith that the franchise won't be utterly screwed up (at least not for the next two films.)
Mmmm. Aragorn. Yummy.
I shall sleep well tonight, with thoughts of him on my brain (it's usually Mitchell, so this is a good change!).
Excellent list--I also enjoy many of the same characters.
I LOVE the movie Tombstone!
Great list.
All of those are great characters! I think Carol Kane and Val Kilmer were both underrated in the two roles you mentioned. Both delivered fantastic performances.
Great list!
Have a wonderful Thursday!
What? No Angelina Jolie in Mr. & Mrs. Smith?
pffffft
I'm a sucker for a great voice and accents too. Depp as Roux in Chocolat is a favorite of mine too. Great movie, I should watch it again soon...
What a great list!
Unfortunately besides the name Denzel Washington and my "friend" Depp, I don't know anybody of them neither the movies. I am ignorant apparently, lol !
You know, I've never see chocolat?
Lots of good ones here. I have favortites but my mind goes blank when I have to name presidents or actors I like.
I liked Brad Pitt in Snap....or the one where he was an Irish tinker and spoke in Irish slang. I'm waiting to see The Departed to see how they all do with the Boston accents. I'm an expert at it you know!
Happy Thursday Thirteen
Great list. Some I haven't seen--yet. I brought my Jack Sparrow sword to work today! Actually, it's my son's, but I think it gives me more power at work. Besides, my boss has one too, and now we can duel!
3. Yes!
4. Of course - I feel the same way about Edward Scissorhands!
6. Swoon...
8. Exactly!
Excellent list! I also concur with jennfactor - Mame Dennis, as played by Rosalind Russell. Perfect.
great list! Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday was my favorite character in Tombstone too. ("I'm your huckleberry.") my favorite character in Lord of the Rings was Gandalf.
happy T13! i played too. =)
I think my list would include the Dread Pirate Roberts. :)
ohmigosh! #12. hilarious!
great list!!! Johnny Depp has seriously turned into a terrific actor, and a total hotty!!!
Renton started me on my Ewan obsession too!
I'm most definitely a Jack Sparrow girl myself....there is just something about that drunk and gay Keith Richards thingy to turn me on :)
I thought Ken Watanabe was very hot in Last Samauri!! :)
Two of my favorite Val Kilmer performances: Mad Martigan in Willow and Nick Rivers in Top Secret.
What a great list of some great characters, portrayed by some fantastic actors and actresses, in some awesome movies! I'm also a big Ken Watanabe fan!
Happy TT!
No surprise to see Snape at the top of your list. :-D
But...for Cap'n Jack not to be in second place? My goodness....that was a bit of a shocker for me.
I loved Tom Hanks in Philadelphia. He is an amazing actor...that movie was so emotional; not at all the kind of movie that I normally watch, but I've seen it at least twice.
I love Val Kilmer too...I haven't seen him in the Jim Morrison movie, but I saw Tombstone awhile ago, and also love Willow. HOWEVER, I don't like him blonde.
Thanks for coming by my TT. Those red vampire eyes do it for you, huh?? ;-)
All of these are such great characters, I loved Carol Kane in Scrooged too. And I had actually forgotten about Casanova, even though I saw it in the summer, that was a delightful moie and Heath Ledger was so easy on the eyes. What about him in A Knights Tale hubba what an under rated movie that was...can you say "cult following"!
This list just makes me reinforced on how much movies can mean to us and how much pleasure, education and entertainment they offer. I love everyone on your list and it must have been difficult to keep it to 13!!!
here is my artsy long post for today, oops sorry again with the long bloody posts, I can't help it! I'm an animal!

Heheh. No Indy on your list? I've always been fond of Indiana Jones, but I'd rather BE him than date him.
Ah, the 70's Dracula. ;) I am happy that you didn't pick the incarnation in the questionably titled "Bram Stoker's Dracula" - it's a pretty movie, but I feel it does violence to the original story that I can't quite forgive. Also, it has Keanu Reeves. Blech.
I love that scene where Snape comes up from behind Ron and Harry, when he pulls his cuffs up on his sleeves and then grabs their heads. The look on his face! lol
What a perfect list; I esp. like Ruth Gordon, Carol Kane, and Johnny Depp. They have that special jenasayquoa(don't know how to spell it - and i hope it is the right word - French sounding word). :)
Great list. Echo your thoughts on Aragorn, he is, as channelled through Viggo, the best!
I wholeheartedly agree with you on 1, 2, and 4. Unfortunately, I haven't seen a lot of the other movies. So many movies, so little time. :)
Great choice of characters. Captain Jack Sparrow being my favourite. Happy T13
Johnny Depp in Chocolat. Be still my heart.
Great list!
Love the list and agree with so many of your choices .... Alan Rickman is so perfect as Snape ... and I just love Carol Kane ... from when she played Simka on Taxi ... to her role in The Princess Bride (I'm NOT a witch, I'm your wife) ... etc and so on
Blessings
