Thursday Thirteen
Plutoa1
Thirteen Things I'm thinking about

1. hot elf bartenders and weird things you hear in bars: can't even go into those things since they were QUITE vile!
2. losing my job: When your boss tells you you should update your resume, is that a hint?
3. presents: I have lots to wrap and a few more left to buy! Get 'em while I still have a job, folks!
4. friends: Love 'em!
5. photography: I enjoy it immensely, but I think I'm not smart enough to do anything with it.
6. the past: Why I did the things I did...
7. the present: What will become of me?
8. evil people: I can't really say what I want cause I'm not sure who's reading my blog. Anyone got suggestions for a new name?
9. nice people: I run into quite a few!
10. shibas: Awwww, shiiiiiiiiibaaaaaaaas are soooooooo cute!
11. olives: Love 'em! Especially in martinis.
12. silver: Reminds me of elfs and shiny stuff.
13. Led Zeppelin boxer shorts: Saw these on a bridge in a tribute to someone who'd jumped.

Your boss told you to update your resume? Seriously?!??

You should always keep your resume updated, just on general principles. That way if you come home from a truly horrid day and you just. can't. take. it. ANYMORE!!!, you're ready to start the jobsearch anew. (Though now...wait until January. So many companies slow down at the end of December and go into a two-week hibernatory period.)

New name for the blog, or new name for the people who bother you? Just realize that anything you put on the internet, you might as well shout from a streetcorner. Not even blogging under a pseudonym will really help you. If you need someplace to vent, sign up for a disposable journal (Livejournal, blogspot, deadjournal, diaryland, whatever) and use that as your dumping-ground.

I ALWAYS keep my resume' updated, & have never had to look for a job. Best to be prepared though...good luck!!

Posted by Tug at December 13, 2006 11:37 PM

Did your boss really tell you that? There are some real crappy bosses out there. I only like green olives... but I love those great big crisp ones they toss in drinks.... mmmm I could so go for one of those right now.. the olive (and the drink!)

Posted by rashenbo at December 13, 2006 11:38 PM

I like your title....there is something oddly interesting about Snape...

Posted by elementaryhistoryteacher at December 13, 2006 11:47 PM

Hot elf bartenders? Man, I'm apparently going to the wrong bars!

Did your boss also tell you about a recent posting in the company that he/she things you should apply for? My boss told me to update my resume just after she told me about a job she thought I should be applying for...

Posted by she at December 13, 2006 11:48 PM

I like the idea of Led Zepplin boxers..I know someone who would like them, but now the idea makes me sad.

I love coming to your blog..your header picture rocks.

Posted by baggage at December 13, 2006 11:53 PM

I think your photography is amazing. You could totally make them into prints and sell them online.

I think about #6 quite abit... probably more than I should, right? I mean, what's done is done. Live and learn and all that.

I love olives too, but not those green ones. Blech. Black for me all the way baby!

Posted by erica at December 13, 2006 11:56 PM

he he - hot elf bartenders!

Happy TT!

Posted by Mikala at December 14, 2006 12:14 AM

I just had to update my resume, what a pain in the arse. :)

Mmmmm... olives. I LOVE a good dirty vodka martini with lots of olives.

Well crappitycrapcrap to #2! I hope it wasn't a hint! (But if it was I hope you find something else you like more and that pays more and all that good stuff...fast!)

Photography, Friends - YAY! BOO to the boss bit. :(

Posted by Lauren at December 14, 2006 7:07 AM

You piqued my attention with the hot elf bartenders! Is that bad? ;)

Oh, i hope you don't lose your job. (unless you want to. ha)

Posted by carmen at December 14, 2006 7:56 AM

I have a few ideas for a name but won't post them here since well then everyone would know!

2007 IS goign to be your lucky year for getting your photography to take off - I can feel it.

olives are gross
shibas are cool
and elf bartenders are fun!

3. I looooooove presentS!
4. AWWWW, we love you too!
5. STFU

8. vox has a nice feature where you can mark posts private just for your neighborhood. That would be good for sensitive posts.

I'm always here for you, through thick and thin! So get the resume out and we'll get through this change together!
And.....you are not stupid! And I love your photography!

Posted by Maribeth at December 14, 2006 8:31 AM

you have A LOT on your mind my friend....

Posted by Laura at December 14, 2006 8:37 AM

Hey...thinking 'bout you.

Been meaning to comment but everytime I get ready to do that....I get interrupted. I'm always late to your Guess what it is contests...someone has already guessed it. *pouts*

Sometimes change is liberating. Sometimes it feels bad at first, then it's the best thing that ever happened to you. Let's hope that is the case for you. The best thing that ever happened to you.

I don't have a boss (thank God!) but if I did, I'd be circulating that updated resume ... yesterday. Why work for a crab like THAT?

Led Zep boxers? What is this world coming to????

Happy TT, my friend. I'll check in again later. Don't let the evil people get you down!

Posted by Susan Helene Gottfried at December 14, 2006 9:28 AM

Hope you continue to be gainfully employed into the new year. We occasionally have to update resumes which seems ridiculous since obviously nothing has changed since it was submitted except the number of years working at the current job!

If you don't feel like you are smart enough to do something with your photography may I suggest tapping into the expertise of friends and acquaintances. You know some very interesting people, I'm sure someone has talent/creativity in the marketing/business aspect of this.

Posted by Carl V. at December 14, 2006 10:20 AM

Don't know what Shibas is. If I had seen Led Zepplin boxer shorts on a bridge as a tribute to someone who jumped, I'm pretty sure I'd be making a u turn to get a shot of it. Yesterday I saw a guitar hanging from a tree. I tried to look for it on the way home, prepared to take a picture, but I couldn't find it again! You know, like the Narnia wardrobe.

I know you believe in magic!

Posted by colleen at December 14, 2006 10:30 AM

Hopefully #4 makes the rest of the list not matter so much.

Posted by -R- at December 14, 2006 10:40 AM

Yikes, I can't believe your boss said that. Is this something she normally does or is this odd behavior for her?

I think your photography is great, I think the only thing getting in the way of it is yourself.

Shibas are cuties!!

Posted by goofy girl at December 14, 2006 10:47 AM

Eeek! Your boss told you to update your resume? Holy crap. I'd be thinking about that too.

And...uh...Led Zep boxer shorts someone left before they jumped off a bridge? Did I read that right? Ew?

Posted by Colleen Gleason at December 14, 2006 11:26 AM

Awww...#7 sounds so forlorn. Hope it all works out!

Posted by Alyssa Goodnight at December 14, 2006 11:34 AM

OMG, your boss really said that?!? Not cool, kids. Not cool at all.

At least you have a cuddly shiba for company, right? :)

(I worry about #7 a lot too. :))

Posted by rampantbicycle at December 14, 2006 11:38 AM

What a truly bizarre list of things you are thinking about, isn't the mind weird...?

I am really taken with the boxer shorts you saw, how sad and yet someone must have loved the person who jumped enough to put them there. Aw jeez.

Yikes about your job unless, always the voice of positive vibes, thats ME!! Maybe they want to refer you for a promotion, and the head honcho will need to see an updated resume? Well, we can try to think happy thoughts no? heh heh

Great crazy list, I love it, and I like how you associate silver with Elves, very cute.

Posted by Candy Minx at December 14, 2006 11:49 AM

Hot elf bartenders... now there's phrase you don't hear everyday.

As for the job thing, let's not jump to conclusions. Maybe you should update your resume because a great new position is opening up that he/she thinks you should apply for. You know never know.

And the photography thing - you're plenty smart, but it's not a requirement to be a successful creative person. Trust me on this, I've worked with enough of them.

Not a nice thing to hear from your boss...but update your resume just in case.
I only like warm olives, as in pizza topping...
I am a silver person (or white gold if I have the choice!)
Happy tt!

Posted by mar at December 14, 2006 1:21 PM

I cannot stand olives! lol When I look at my daughter I think of the elves in Lord of the Rings. lol. I can't help it! She has the cutest little ears. :)

Posted by Cheryl at December 14, 2006 1:29 PM

To answer your question on my blog :)
Sam from Love Actually was the little boy, stepson to Liam Neeson, who learns to play the drums to get noticed by the "coolest girl in school". My favorite storyline of the whole movie. :)

Posted by Annie at December 14, 2006 2:13 PM

Maybe your boss thought he was being either helpful or funny?!

Now, I may not want to know, but what is this elf fetish all about...and should the elf wear the Led Zeppilin boxers?

Good luck with your job...hope it was nothing to worry about!

Posted by Danielle at December 14, 2006 3:00 PM

I feel the same way about photography. I enjoy it, but I allow it to intimidate me...not sure I completely understand aperture and depth of field and what not.

It's never good to hear that you should update your resume, especially around the holidays. Hope everything is ok work-wise.

My 13 are up.

Posted by Chickadee at December 14, 2006 3:41 PM

"photography: I enjoy it immensely, but I think I'm not smart enough to do anything with it."

I strenuously diagree. Just keep shooting and it will come. Hell, consider it therapy. Lose yourself behind the lens if you can. I do that when the going gets rough, sometimes.
Anytime you need an ear to listen, just give me a buzz.

And your boss saying that... arrrghhh. I'll be thinkin aboutcha.

Posted by Laura at December 14, 2006 5:49 PM

I love your photography and your blog name! There is one and only one! :)

Hopefully you're getting a raise or a job promotion... hoping for the best!!! :) :) :)

I can never get rid of the red eye on my pictures.

Posted by Ocean Lady at December 14, 2006 6:58 PM

Sorry to hear about #2. What an awful time of the year to be straddled with such a worry :( Hope everything turns out okay.

If the elf bartender looks anything like Legolas, count me in!

Posted by Julie at December 14, 2006 9:59 PM

Hi Janet and Wolf,

We lost track of you for a while, we think it must have been when you became more fond of Snape than elves! Anyway, we just dropped by to say Arrroooo!

Happy holidays,

Yoshi & Tsuki

Posted by Yoshi & Tsuki at December 14, 2006 10:09 PM

I'm a black olive person myself. Don't they have something to do with passion?

Eh, whatever.

I think about #7 and waiting for my not so distant empty nest. heh heh

Posted by tbirdonawire at December 15, 2006 1:33 PM

Good list! Hopefully you won't be losing your job. Hot elf bartenders??!!

Mine's up :)
