This is a ginkgo biloba leaf; a tree that was quite common in Japan, but I've recently noticed a couple of them in local cemeteries. It's assets include:
* long-lived shade tree, often maturing at a very large size
* very urban tolerant
* bold texture, with a growth habit of great character
* leaves flutter in the slightest breeze
* fall color on selected cultivars is a clear solid yellow!
Also, I think it's cool that this species may not flower (and therefore also may not fruit) until it is about twenty years old!

Did you capture that in a cemetary? Nice lookin' leaf. We have way too many leaves around here right now!
I didn't know those things about this tree! I love the shape of the leaves, reminds me of a "fan", and the golden yellow color in the fall is amazing. Great photo...I really must go exploring in our cemeteries. I may find some amazing trees or surprises, as well!
Mine is up.
Grown, fell and down, yes that's growth !
Thanks for your hugs, Janet.
Ginkgos are living fossils, that is, they've been around in the same form for millions of years, and there are no other trees like them. We had one where I used to live at Lake Tarawera (that we planted) and it was magnificent in its autumn (fall) yellow colours.
Ginko biloba is good for our brain. It strengthens our memory.
Have a happy week end! :)
Nice take on the theme. The bright yellow color of the leaf is so much nicer than the crisp brown ones on the ground in our yard.
Wow -- I never knew that! Nice picture and neat take on the theme!
Wow, really interesting shape leaf and fasinating info concerning it.
Learning something new everyday. Interesting looking leaf, amazing to read these trees need to be of "legal age" to flower!
happy saturday, my pic is now up :)
That's neat! I didn't know anything about Ginko Biloba!
Lovely photo. The colour against the gray pavement is striking. Thanks for the information on the ginkgo biloba tree - it's always great to learn something new.
Have a good weekend. :)
Always learning something new from everyone's photos! Thanks!!
Happy Saturday!
That is a great photo, love the color contrast.
Mine is up too, have a great weekend.
Did you know that most ginkos planted are males? The fruit is rather pungent.
I love ginko trees. The shape of the leaves is so gorgeous. I love the simplicity of this shot. Lovely.
Love this photo....just so simply stated and well done.
Nice idea for today's theme.
Mine is up now too.
Cheers,
Carol
Hey....your blog remembered me....Hmmmm was I here already today?
Anyway, that is the first time it's remembered me.
Thanks for popping in to my place

A wonderful choice for this week's theme!
My parents used to have a ginko tree in their backyard. I dunno why it got cut down!
Love the photo, Janet! I guess I've never seen a ginko tree before. The leaf has such a pretty fan shape :)
Hope you have a great weekend!
Lovely picture. I love ginko trees.
Excellent interpretation of the theme!
Mine's up too :)
Beautiful!
The gingko in our backyard is completely bare of leaves now, but for a few days it was a gorgeous yellow colour. They are a very slow-growing tree, but one of my favourites.
One tiny leaf, once green, now fading.
Beautiful choice for this week!
Mine's up too
Happy weekend!
Wow what a nice take on the theme. And thank you for the information on the tree. I thought the trees were actually short. I learned a bit this week, amazing. Great hunt picture.
