NaBloPoMo, #12: Girl's Day at the Tattoo Shop
It was a gorgeous day Saturday and I felt bad we were keeping John from a nice long ride on his Harley...but I think we entertained him sufficiently, not to mention feeding him and keeping him on track with a coffee (we were there from noon til about 6:30!).

John, our tattooist
Here's our tattooist, John, working on Mo's tattoo; Mo was entertaining him by reading him bits from Cosmo LOL!

Mo's tattoos...aka a painful day at the tattoo shop!
And here is Mo's newest tattoos!

John, peeking at Monique
John again, working on my tattoo (photo by Monique). His friend, who shall remain nameless, stopped by a couple times, but I think we scared him off!

My newest tattoo; of course, I named him Fawkes ;-)

Here's John working on Monique's tat

And finally, Monique's newest tattoo

Mo's appointment was about 3.5 hours long and the poor thing was in pain through most of it (she got her tats on her lower back), but toughed it out! Braver than me, I swear.

I arrived about an hour into her work, and just hung out, taking pictures and talking and running out for pizza and looking through John's extensive collection of tattoo and art books. He suggested a flower on my foot for my next tattoo...but I fell in love with this guy:

sebastion, making a scary shadow
Isn't he just so adorable?

He's a silly baby dragon named Sebastian (I think) and he's making scary shadows in the light from the lantern. It's from a drawing by Amy Brown, she does the most amazing fairy drawings I've ever seen!

Round about 3:30, it was my turn. Didn't hurt hardly at all, but I made pain faces so Mo wouldn't feel alone ;-) I think it took John about an hour and a half, maybe two, for mine.

Last up was Monique...her tattoo was ... well, maybe it's too personal, and if she wants to say, you can read about it over on her blog :-)

I love something different about each of your tattoos. Monique's is really cute - love the ladybug. Only bug I like really. Sebastian would be a great next addition for you!

Your tattoo is "FANTASTIC", the colors are gorgeous! The design has such a beautiful movement, I swear it seems to be gracefully taking flight across your arm...COOL !

Wow a virtual tattoo parlor tour! And these are no ordinary tattoos. I can't figure out what the baby dragon is on...what part of the body. Very playful and colorful. I love lanterns!

We posted at michele's at the same time!

I knew the name Fawkes sounded familiar. I got the low-down on it from my resident HP expert!

Dumbledore would be proud of the rendition you're now sporting- it's gorgeous! LOL

love them! mine is a ladybug with my grandmother's initials. she passed away in april and always said if she got a tattoo it would be of a ladybug. it has 4 dots on one wing for her 4 children and 6 on the other wing for the 6 grandchildren.
my husband hates it but when he's not around i gaze at it lovingly (i'm a dork, i know)

Damn, everytime I see new tattoos I want another one!

Wow! Love the colors. I can't wait to see it in person. Your pictures came out so good. It was hard to take a picture of mine ( plus I went alone...spur of the moment thing) but I'll post it tomorrow. It's funny I thought my lower back didn't hurt at all but my hip one hurt like hell. My shoulder (where I got this one, hurt when he colored it but the outline didn't hurt) although it only took about 20 minutes so I can't complain. Poor Mo..that's terrible she had to go through a lot of pain. (sorry for the book)

Ok, I enjoyed this post. Fawkes is amazing, the colors really came together! Loved Monique's tribute to her grandmother, that's a beautiful thing to do.

Very cool! They look amazing! I read about the meaning of Monique's on her blog ... that's very sweet!

I'll be posting an update of the one I got in October tomorrow. Mine is in the same spot as Mo's so I can feel her pain!!

They all turned out great!

And I love the little dragon guy. Where would you put him if you got him, Janet?

OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the colors in Fawkes is fantastic!! (I knew where the name came from right away lol)
The little dragon is really cute! I do have one small tat.. always said I'd get another but never did..not sure there was a reason other than the cost!! lol
Now I'm so old I would have to have someone do the "perfect dragon" for someone my age.. I even drew him .. have a look at Firestorm at this link..

John is cute! Hmm. Maybe I need a tattoo in my bikini area... And of course, John has to do it. ;)

Pretty! But...ouch. :) Tattoos are cool, but as far as I'm concerned, better for other people. ;)

(Sebastian IS adorable though.)

Cool tats! I love the way they look when they are freshly done...that raised look. Wish they would stay like that.

So very pretty....

Delightful colors. I like the image of the little dragon.

I'll probably never get a tattoo, but your Fawkes is gorgeous. My half-sister has 2 large dragons, one on her lower back and the other on her errr...lower front.

Posted by Shirley at November 13, 2006 12:35 PM

at least you had some eye candy to look at while you got your tatto. I like Fawkes. I like the baby dragon (I'm on a dragon kick, recently) but not enough to let a needle near me. ;)

Posted by carmen at November 13, 2006 12:39 PM

I love your tat! And John is easy on the eyes. The little dragon is adorable.

And I love the story behind Monique's tattoo.

Posted by Lisa at November 13, 2006 2:06 PM

i still think hes a doll!

Posted by Krista at November 13, 2006 3:33 PM

Awesome tattoos! And dude, your tattooist is HAWT! I wouldn't mind staying there all day, that's for sure ;) Your tattoo turned out gorgeous :)

And the dragon making the shadows is too adorable. I like his little claws.

damn, those are beautiful...fawkes turned out really well! you'll be all healed up and colorful for Florida!

Your artist does good work! I was very careful with who I chose for mine.
