Thirteen Things I love about June!
(the list is up early for the US, but it's Thursday SOMEWHERE in the world, right?)

1. It's my birthday month; I share a birthday with Cyndi Lauper & Todd Rundgrun, Ed Bradley (60 Minutes), Jai Rodriguez (the cute lil guy from Queer Eye), Mary Lynn Rajskub (10 points to those who know who she is), Steven Page from BNL, Dan Brown (he wrote The Da Vinci Code), and Meryl Streep, to name a few.
2. The Summer solstice, aka the longest day of summer, yippee! (unless you're in the southern hemisphere, then it's December lol)
3. When I was in elementary, then high school (dudes, I'm so old there WAS no middle school at the time) June was freedom, freedom, glorious freedom from school!
4. Cookout time!
5. I visited England and Scotland for the first time in June and LOVED it.
6. It was the month I got my favorite job (working for an AF general when I lived in Japan)
7. My friend, Gaylen, her daughter, Reva (she was about 7 at the time) and I took a trip to Okinawa in June 1994. To me it was sooooo hot; to Gaylen, born and raised in Louisiana, it wasn't nothin'!
8. Speaking of Okinawa, it was the first time I ever saw habu sake; here, let me share with you a picture of this tasty treat (if you're squeamish, don't look!) (I WARNED you!!!)
9. I also visited South Korea for a week in June of 1995; I had wild sex with stayed with an old friend I knew from when I worked at Hanscom AFB (yes, I was married; yes, we were legally separated; yes, my soon to be ex-husband was back at Yokota, living with his german girlfriend in the airman's dorm; yes, I thoroughly enjoyed myself with my friend, who, coincidentally, was the ONLY one to warn me about my soon to be ex, back when he was my soon to be husband...go figure). My friend was stationed at Osan Air Base, which is just 48 miles south of the Korean DMZ, and of course we I had to see that. We were also anticipating the base's big 4th of July celebration which, sadly, was cancelled due to the tragic collapse of a five-story department store in Seoul, which killed 501 people and injured 937.
10. June is National Rose Month, and who doesn't love roses!
11. Did you know that no other month begins on the same day of the week as June? I like the fact that June is different!
12. The birthstone for June is the pearl, Alexandrite, or moonstone; they are all beautiful!
13. My friend Betsy got married in June!

(yes, I'm in the picture. I'm the first one sitting, it kinda looks like Betsy's foot is kicking my head)

Oh goody, I get to be first, lol. I don't think I have been here before but you have a beautiful blog. Whoa! I love June and I live for Summer and Winter Solstice too. June seems to bring out the best in me. Happy TT and thanks for stopping by mine.

Brightest Blessings,
Dariana

I've always been fond of Sept., now I know it's probably because it is my birthday month. Go figure!

Thanks for visiting my TT about cars.

I'm very fond of June too, the beginning of summer over here. And we only have about 3 months summer.

Love the wedding pic! So chic!

But the habu sake wasn't quite so chic... Eeeek!

Posted by Lifecruiser at May 31, 2006 10:32 PM

June is the month my daughter was born! Good month!

Now that habu sake just looks nasty!! UGH!! Anything that has to do with snakes just creeps me out!

Happy Thursday!

Ah! June. Makes me (almost) long to be in school again just to feel the freedom of being out! :)

Happy J1!

Ohhhhhhhh I'd love to visit Scotland. That had to be such fun. I love June too; although not as much as April but it's definately a cool month.

Cool things about the month of June. I prefer October, my birthday month, but June did rock hard because of no school. I am impressed by the Steven Page thing. I love BNL

Posted by libragirl at May 31, 2006 11:02 PM

Gosh, I just loved Cyndi Lauper back in the day. What a great person to share a b-day with.

It sounds like you have a fun month to look forward to with your birthday, trip memories and national rose month. Maybe you'll get roses for your birthday.

Happy Thursday!

I love June too. As a high school teacher, we are still like your #3!!! Freedom!!!

Posted by nancy dowd at May 31, 2006 11:42 PM

Well, I was going to do things I love about June too, but your post was way better! I, too have a June birthday, June 30th. Nice to see so many others share my birth month!

Now, I'm off to brainstorm a new 13! Wish me luck and stop by later!

It's funny because when I read the title for your list I was trying to figure out if June was a friend or your sister or something and then I realized you meant the month! I should have been a blonde!

I too look forward to the summer solstice. I never realized that no other month started on the same day as June before.

My TT is up.

Great TT! My daughter just got back from Thailand and brought a bottle of wine with 2 snakes in it. Looks pretty awesome, but I don't think I would drink it.

I'm up.

I just followed your 'wrong link' (hehe) but I'm glad I did.
That looks like a fun wedding, and when it gets here, Happy Birthday!

(Summer holidays in the UK arent until mid July)

HEY! I think we were in S. Korea at the same time! Except I was living there, would have rather lived in Japan. Sigh... ;)

Posted by Chaotic Mom at June 1, 2006 6:34 AM

Horrah for June! I love June and October both months to celebrate in.

Posted by Michelle at June 1, 2006 8:06 AM

I have always liked June. Hubby and I got married in June! Growing up it was the best month for vacations and playing outside. Not too hot yet hot enough! And pearls are really the rage right now!

Posted by Debbie at June 1, 2006 8:08 AM

ok, while I dont MIND snakes......Im not eating one.......

Posted by Laura at June 1, 2006 8:10 AM

I got married in June! I like June, too, but it will be July soon enough...

Posted by Karen at June 1, 2006 8:22 AM

Isn't it funny that you think you know "hot" until you've experienced tropical hot? I thought summers in PA were hot until I lived in Guam with constant 80+ temps and nearly constant 90%+ humidity. I'm sure it's still not "Africa hot," though!

ENjoyed your list!

Posted by nat at June 1, 2006 8:42 AM

I have a sister who was born in June.

Ah, June. The gateway to summer. Not as good as August, but it's OK. They do share one fact in common: no national holidays - at least in the U.S.

Happy Thursday!

Posted by Megan at June 1, 2006 9:27 AM

Yay for your Birthday this month! I'm going to try again to do this Thursday Thirteen...lets see if I'm as creative as you :)

June is a wonderful month; I love the fact that it's light outside almost 24 hour a day here in Norway. :D

Posted by anneberit at June 1, 2006 5:18 PM

But you didn't tell us WHEN in June your birthday is...so, I'll leave happy wishes just in case it's real soon.

june was the month I left for Japan for a six week foreign exchange program. (Maybe it was May, now that I think about it... oh, well, for this comment, I left in June :) )

This June is starting out horrible... rain rain rain in Washington State. Grrrr.

Posted by misguided one at June 1, 2006 8:06 PM

Sounds like you have a lot of good reasons to like June. I never knew about that day of the weeki thing, that's interesting.

Posted by Barbara at June 1, 2006 8:49 PM

June is good. Personally, I like October. The fall is always great because it's getting cooler but the plants and flowers are still out. Besides, who doesn't like to get a little creepy around Halloween!

Posted by Amy the Black at June 2, 2006 9:08 AM

What can I say? June is summer vacation!
yeah!

MyThursday Thirteen is up!

Posted by LibertyBelle at June 2, 2006 8:05 PM

I lived in Japan three years, and I never got to see a cool snake-in-the-bottom sake, dagnabbit!

I love my birth month (September) but I would LOVE to have moonstone as a birthstone - that is SO cool.

Posted by chosha at June 3, 2006 11:33 AM

So you may be the Gemini-Cancer Cusp if you are born between June 19-24. That week is the Cusp of Magic jic you didn't already know. It says affectionate, seductive, and objective for strengths.
