This was my town's library when I was growing up and I spent many happy hours there; it was oh so nice and cool in the summer! Yes, the picture is a little crooked, and yes, I cut off the top of the spire, and yes there are traffic lights and the front of a car in the picture...but I had a leash wrapped around my wrist with a shiba inu attached to the other end and he was a bit antsy stopping on a busy street corner.
"Built in 1880 with a gift from Mrs. Eleanor Bennett, it was offered as a library to the town. When the town declined the offer because it did not want to incur the expense or liability of running it, the Bennett Public Library Association was formed to oversee its operation. Dues were collected in small amounts to cover operating expenses and the library thrived. Its rooms and the basement were filled with books, and it played an important part in the town's growth. The Bennett served as the town's only library until 1980 when a new building, paid for by the town, was built nearby. Its rooms are now shared by the Boys and Girls Club Teen Center and the Atlantis Playmakers."

Am here from the SPH Blogroll and I'm glad I visited. Godd you were lucky to have kept a picture of a memorable structure.
My photo is up too. Enjoy your Saturday!
Very nice library! Nice setting and the picture is just fine! Thanks for the share. Mine is up!
I love the old buildings from my youth. I hate it when they tear them down and put up these super ultra modern monstrocities.
What a great picture!! Wow...just the ambiance of the interior would surely make ME wanna spend hours in there!!
My Saturday Photo is up.

the Library! center of the community!! I thought about that, but I was too lazy this week...
What a beautiful building! As it happens, I'm sitting in my own library while I'm looking at yours. :)
Beautiful building!! Great photo! Happy Saturday, my photo is up!
I kind of like the crooked style, it's like me after todays photo hunt in our town, which took us hours, so my back felt like crooked - or maybe even cracked ;-)
Loved to read a little about your library too. I'ts always nice with a little story to the pic.
Cool library building. Cool that it is still used today - altough not for the original intend.
Happy Saturday Hunt :)
I love old buildings! What a great part of your community!
Oh, I love the story about how the library came to be. Isn't that just typical of town councils? They never change, do they?
My SPH is up.
That's a gorgeous library!!!!
I just wanted to let you know that we are now voting on my latest caption contest. Since you entered, I though you might want to vote...if you haven't already. :) Vote Here.
That is a cool library. Our library structure doesn't compare ;) I'm late in visiting, I was busy all day yesterday... and have been making my rounds last night and this morning.
Your picture turned out really nice!
I practically grew up in my local library. I volunteered there when I was in junior high, and I loved staying late, after the library closed. Just me and the books...
And I think the picture is great! You don't always have to have the whole building in!
How'd I miss you on Saturday? Duh. :) Cute little library. I had a hard time with this theme.
