Thirteen Things about fondofsnape's song memories

1. Stay - Lisa Loeb: I was driving home for lunch from work when I lived in Japan. Stay came on the radio, and I instantly fell in love with it...I might even have cried a bit...maybe
2. You're Beautiful - James Blunt: I don't much listen to the radio anymore, so I don't really hear many new songs. This one I heard first on Saturday Night Live when James Blunt was a guest...and he totally mesmerized me!
3. Stomp - Kirk Franklin & God's Property: My boyfriend at the time was sitting in the living room watching BET and asked me to come in to see this video cause he thought I'd like it...and I did!
4. The Show - Doug E Fresh: Another boyfriend introduced me to this song back in the 80s; we were in his car, driving back to his place when it came on, and believe me, in Boston, that's a freakin' miracle, cause back then rap wasn't so popular. I have another memory of this song; my friend Julie and I were at Niagra Falls, Canada side, walking down the street, rapping the whole song, much to the amazement of our friends Ender & Joli who were, truth to tell, probably a bit embarrassed!
5. Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp (live) - Led Zeppelin: I was listening to the 3 CD pack that came out in what...2002? Thought this song sounded pretty cool, and LOVED at the end of the song when Robert Plant called his dog Strider :-)
6. Fruitcakes / Vampires, Mummies & The Holy Ghost / Delaney Talks To Statues - Jimmy Buffett: Drinkin' tequila, my friend sick as a dog, having to drive around the flightline to sober her up before she went home; also reminds me of riding my bike around the flightline, a weird thing to do at Yokota AB cause of the huge planes taking off and landing right freakin' next to you!
7. American Girl - Tom Petty: Again, when I lived in Japan, I was standing on my balcony (6 floors up) watching the traffic go by and that song came on. Man, I was hit with a huge wave of homesickness!
8. Prayer For The Dying - Seal: I HATED hated hated Seal because my fondoftorturing ex-husband listened to Seal's song, Crazy, every freaking day, on the way to work, on the way home, when we went out...well, looking back, the title of the song was at least fitting. But anyway, I was in the living room, listening to the Armed Forces radio, and emailing a friend when that song came on...and I cried. But then when I found out it was Seal, I laughed! I could tell you stories about almost all the songs on the CD and what memories I have of them...but I'll share just one other. I was shopping in some department store with my boyfriend at the time, and the song Newborn Friend came on...he wrapped his arms around me and we danced right there...oblivious to everyone. It was fun :-)
9. War Pigs - Black Sabbath: My brother used to BLAST this mfing album (called Paranoid) over and over and over and this particular song just grated on me...I guess from the sirens ...omg I HATED Ozzy Osbourne...til I saw his reality show. Strange man...but interesting.
10. Baby Got Back - Sir Mixalot: Driving through Norfolk VA on the way to VA Beach and I laughed and loved it immediately. Also, it reminds me of my old office mate, Diana. One day I was reading an email or something and said Oh My God; Diana immediately said Becky, look at her butt and I cracked up. We've been friends ever since ;-)
11. Mr. Dabolina - Del tha Funkee Homosapien: Heard this on the radio driving over a bridge in Boston...my ex-husband and I loved it, one of the few things we agreed on.
12. Deacon Blues - Steely Dan: Reminds me of high school, but also of driving to Vermont to visit a friend.
13. Little Red Corvette - Prince: One day, my best friend in Japan and I were driving around, just checking out the local area near the base, and her daughter (who was 7 or 8 at the time) was with us, sitting in the back seat. This song came on, and after a bit, from the back seat, we hear her daughter singing along to it...(I guess I must be dumb / ’cuz u had a pocket full of horses / Trojan and some of them used) and we looked at each other, horrified (course she had NO idea what she was singing, but still). Turned that song off real fast under the pretext of stopping at some Japanese store. Hey...at least it wasn't Head or Erotic City heh heh heh.

Do you know that people are using "You're Beautiful" as a wedding song? It's apparently quite popular. Dumbasses.

I love how songs are such sparkers of memories. We're alike in that way. :) Have you seen the Lisa Loeb show #1 Single on TV?

Why does it not surprise me that there's a Jimmy Buffet song on this list?

And if you like "Your Beautiful," you'll just die for "Goodbye My Lover." James sang that on SNL too. That's the one that haunted me.

I love that Lisa Loeb song too. I believe she had a show on VH1 too about being single maybe? Anyway, what a great idea for a list. I may have to use that in an upcoming list :-) Happy Thursday!

I love your list - mine is up!

Music is just huge in my life - I have memories associated with the "soundtrack to my life."

It's wild how songs can transport you right back to another time when it got programmed. I still can see myself in my old blue rambler rocking out to Eric Clapton's Layla when it first came out.

I see you as some cross between Jessica Lange and Robin Wright. From your photo on the sidebar...even though it's the back of your head...you look sort of movie star-like! My imagination actually flatters people more than the other way around!

What is it about that song "Stay"... I think I cried to that one too.

Hmmm... feeling the need to explore some new tunes now. But I love Steely Dan. So I'm right with you there... and now, I've got Little Red Corvette stuck in my brain!
