Anyone who wants to buy a new puppy, please, PLEASE read this post. In fact, pass it on to anyone you know who might be considering a puppy or kitten from a pet store. Hell, post it on your blog if you feel strongly enough about this issue.

If you're not trying to better the breed, please don't breed your dogs. There are SO many animals out there just waiting for you to adopt them. Animals that are given up because their owners don't have time for them anymore, they've remarried, had kids, moved to a place that doesn't allow pets.

Please.

Both my dogs are adopted, and were neutered soon thereafter. Your dog or cat doesn't need to have sex one time, or to give birth one time to know the joys of motherhood. C'mon. Seriously.

My cat is an adoption. Our old dog was "an accidental" puppy from a farm. Before we had her, we attempted to buy a puppy from a breeder, but the puppy died a week after we brought her home. It broke my heart, our vet said it was congenital kidney failure (due to improper breeding practices). I am so going with an adoption next time!

Well said!...I totally agree with you 110%...
It pisses me off when people are going on and on about breeding their pets or how they paid thousands of dollars for a pet when there are so many in shelters!

Now I say that up front but also, I do plan to breed Greta. Why, you might ask? Because there are almost no "good" well bred wire-haired dachshunds in this country. When I have spoken to breeders I am shocked to hear how many times they have inbred the dogs.
Greta's lines are clean, and so is her beau's. My pups will be sold to families with a spay/neuter contract. I will sell only to another breeder if she meets the criteria for the German Dachshund Club.
