1. Turkey breast: First time not making the whole turkey, but it's just the three of us, so...
2. Ham: Why not?
3. Butternut squash, braised in cider
4. Fresh rosemary, from the bush I rescued from outside and brought to the plant lady at work (I'm using that in the squash dish)
5. Brussels sprouts, chestnuts and shallots in a brown butter sauce
6. Stuffing, which also has chestnuts in it...and celery & onion, too!
7. Mashed potatoes (I don't like gravy, but I'll have some for Dad & my brother)
8. Cranberry sauce: from the can...I like it better than homemade LOL!
9. Pumpkin pie, made from roasted pumpkins and with a graham cracker crust; I also substituted some black molasses for some of the sugar. It's in the oven now!
10. Apple crisp: oatmeal, maple, brown sugary goodness, topped with
11. Vanilla ice cream
12. Coffee
13. Gingerale
Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate it!

1. When it appears that you have killed the monster, never check to see if it's really dead.
2. If you find that your house is built upon or near a cemetery, was once a church that was used for black masses, had previous inhabitants who went mad or committed suicide or died in some horrible fashion, or had inhabitants who performed satanic practices in your house - move away immediately.
3. Never read a book of demon summoning aloud, even as a joke.
4. Do not search the basement, especially if the power has just gone out.
5. If your children speak to you in Latin or any other language which they should not know, or if they speak to you using a voice which is other than their own, shoot them immediately. It will save you a lot of grief in the long run. NOTE: It will probably take several rounds to kill them, so be prepared.
6. As a general rule, don't solve puzzles that open portals to Hell.
7. Never stand in, on, above, below, beside, or anywhere near a grave, tomb, crypt, mausoleum, or other house of the dead.
8. If appliances start operating by themselves, move out.
9. Do not take anything from the dead.
10. If you're running from the monster, expect to trip or fall down at least twice, more if you are of the female persuasion. Also note that, despite the fact that you are running and the monster is merely shambling along, it's still moving fast enough to catch up with you.
11. If your companions suddenly begin to exhibit uncharacteristic behavior such as hissing, fascination for blood, glowing eyes, increasing hairiness, and so on, get away from them as fast as possible.
12. Stay away from certain geographical locations, some of which are listed here: Amityville, Elm Street, Transylvania, Nilbog (you're in trouble if you recognize this one), the Bermuda Triangle, or any small town in Maine.
13. Beware of strangers bearing tools such as chainsaws, staple guns, hedge trimmers, electric carving knives, combines, lawnmowers, butane torches, soldering irons, band saws, or any device made from deceased companions.

1. Heather had a few: "What do you do to entertain your inner child?" Er...anything and everything that I think will amuse it!
2. Next she asks: "What veggie are you most like?" What veggie am I like? Hmmm...broccoli, I think, especially with the perm; bushy headed with a strong stalk!
3. Followed by: "What new show are you into, if any? Pushing Daisies, I LOVE! Also Reaper and Journeyman. You all? What's your favorite new show?
4. My cousin asks: What's your favorite memory of Surf Drive Beach? Finally, FINALLY being allowed to swim out to the raft! And eating frozen milky way bars, of course :-) Just being out in the sun and in the ocean. Great question, cuz!
5. She also asks: "What's your favorite barbecue item? For you southerners, barbeque up here in yankee land doesn't mean meat smoked for days...it means hot dogs and hamburgers, grilled corn, eggplant, potato salad, cold beers or lemonade. I'd have to say my new favorite is grilled eggplant, but it has to be crispy!
6. Monique asks: "what first attracts you to a person?" I can't lie...the size of their...smile!!! I love a good smile. Attractiveness is part of it, but by no means all. More important is their sense of self-confidence, which is funny, as I seem to lack that in huge quantities.
7. She also asks: "what movie could you watch over and over again and never tire of?" She's totally being facetious here, cause I'm pretty sure she knows the answer: Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (the first in the trilogy) will capture my attention until the day I die! Any of the POTC movies'll do the trick, too!
8. Followed by: "cabin in the woods or oceanside mansion?" Cabin in the woods, strangely enough. Mansions are just too much work!
9. Julie wants to know "Who was your first dog?" That would be Cocoa, when I was a kid. She was a sweetie, and looked very much like Max.
10. Then she wants to know "What's your favourite photograph that you've taken so far?" I think it's this one:

11. Followed by "What was your worst date ever?" That would have to be the dude with the pen!s so small it might as well have been an innie.
12. Lisa asks: "Did you have fun tonight?" Yes!!! Lisa and I went to Blue Heron Tattoo in Derry; Lisa got her first ever tattoo, and I got my latest one outlined...and finally came up with a design to redo one on my leg. Woohoo!

13. Finally, another from Heather: "What things draw your eye when you've got a camera in your hand?" Same answer as #1; anything and everything! Discarded bits of paper, raindrops, the iris of someone's eye...it depends on my mood at the time!

Thirteen Supernatural Song Lyrics and Slightly Scary Quotes
I thought I'd dredge up some of my spooky, scary or Halloweeny T13s in honor of October! This one might make you work a bit, if you're so inclined; name either the song, the artist or the person being quoted...10 points if you know what a "snib" is!
1. "All the vampires walkin' through the valley / Move west down Ventura Boulevard"
2. "I saw a werewolf with a Chinese menu in his hand / Walking through the streets of Soho in the rain / He was looking for a place called Lee Ho Fook's / Going to get himself a big dish of beef chow mein"
3. "girl I'm just a jeepster for your love / I said girl I'm just a vampire for your love / I'm gonna suck you"
4. "Vampires, mummies and the Holy Ghost / These are the things that terrify me the most / No aliens, psychopath or MTV hosts / Scare me like vampires, mummies and the Holy Ghost"
5. "Just like a ghost, you've been a-hauntin' my dreams / But now I know, you're not what you seem. / Love is kinda crazy with a spooky little girl like you."
6. "From my laboratory in the castle east / To the master bedroom where the vampires feast / The ghouls all came from their humble abodes / To get a jolt from my electrodes"
7. "She likes the dark / On her milk white neck / The Devil's mark / It's all Hallows Eve / The moon is full / Will she trick or treat / I bet she will"
8. "If you cannot get rid of the family skeleton, you may as well make it dance."
9. "A house is never still in darkness to those who listen intently; there is a whispering in distant chambers, an unearthly hand presses the snib of the window, the latch rises. Ghosts were created when the first man awoke in the night."
10. "One need not be a chamber to be haunted; One need not be a house; The brain has corridors surpassing Material place."
11. "By the pricking of my thumbs / Something wicked this way comes."
12. "Dreams in which there came the howl of hunting wolves and the cries of goblins."
13. "My mind is wrought to a fever by the moonbeam that hangs o'er."

Thirteen Things: The One About Me
Yes, I know I said I was going to highlight a blog I love each week, but I don't feel like it this week...!1. I love my new laptop! My brother finally hooked up wireless access, and I can use it anywhere in the house! Woohoo!
2. Carl's Book Challenge has inspired me to read, read, and read some more. I swear last night was the first night I've watched tv in quite some time, and it was cause I was in mourning over finishing Stephanie Meyer's Twilight series (review to come soon!)
3. My Tivo died awhile back; the new one arrived today. I hooked it up and it'll be interesting to see if my tv viewing habits return.
4. I bought a new vac...yes, I got a Dyson! I got it and put it together two days ago, and have yet to give it a whirl...Saturday morning, for sure!
5. Work has been so much better lately with a boss that appreciates me. Not sure WHY I need that so much, but I do.
6. Wolf is driving me insane right now! He wants me to pet him and scratch him and I'm trying to write this. A determined Shiba is hard to ignore! He grabs me with his claws and holds on...then he whines...then he makes the sad Shiba eyes at me ... I'm a baaaaaad mommy to ignore him!
7. Speaking of Wolf, he's been on a NO SNACKS FROM DAD diet for a month or so and he's looking slim and trim! One cup of food a day, 1/2 in the morning, 1/2 at night and he seems to be good to go. I started using a new food, same brand name...Innova, this food is called EVO, and it's all organic. They love it!
8. Got a wedding to shoot this Saturday and another the end of the month, that one is in St. Thomas! I refused payment for either wedding because I'm just not comfortable taking money from friends. The bride & groom from the second wedding, however, bought me a round trip ticket to St. Thomas and paid for my hotel. DAMN that girl! Kidding, I'm psyched as hell to be going, and also that she's getting married...she had a rough time of it for awhile, and things have been working out great for her lately! Go Azzy! Hopefully I'll be able to indulge my craving to swim in the ocean while I'm there.
9. Strangely, it seems as if I've taken a vow of silence. I'm really not talking much, at work or at home. In fact, some days I can almost go without talking to anyone at work. Not sure this is a good thing; I get too used to the quiet and get irritated when it's not quiet.
10. I've fallen in love with a British tv show, The Vicar of DIbley. Ironically enough, I'd bought this as a present for my cousin awhile back...she has good taste!
11. Fall has arrived a bit early here; the leaves are changing and falling.
12. Friday I have a hair appointment...not sure whether I'm going to go silver or honey blond with red highlights. What do you think?
13. My tattoo is completely healed! I do think that I'm going to ask my tattoo guy to outline it with a thin line of black...it doesn't really stand out much...matches my skin tone LOL!

Thirteen Things I love that begin with the letter Z
Would you look at this! I fulfilled a challenge to myself, and worked my way thru the alphabet, from A to Z in the Thursday Thirteens! How many of you noticed? How many of you are trying this yourselves? Good luck!
1. Zephyr: I had zephyr gnocchi last weekend, i.e., airy and light. And oooh my was it delicious!
2. Zeus: The God of thunder! Do you ever picture him "up there" hurling down lighting bolts? ;-)
3. Zeppelin: My favorite band, took me more than 35 years to appreciate them!
4. Zig-Zag: That's usually how I walk, zigging here, zagging there. I wasn't born under the sign of Cancer the Crab for nothing! We won't talk about the other definition of zig-zags, will we, Megan the Elder?
5. Zodiac: Speaking of zodiac signs, I've always had more than a passing interest in this. My grandmother had an old, thick book that she could chart horoscopes with. It's around here somewhere. I always thought it was pretty funny that for a water sign I had so many fire planets! Steamy!
6. Zinnias: Aren't they such a pretty flower? All sorts of colors, what's not to like!
7. Zinfandel wine: Before I acquired a taste for red wine, I liked white zin...LOL!
9. Zoot: One of the bloggers I've read since I started blogging, she shares my love of Harry Potter and she's got the wicked coolest curly hair!
10. Zinger: "A witty, often caustic remark." or "A sudden shock, revelation, or turn of events."; I've more than a passing familiarity with both!
11. Zip Cars: A great idea for city dwellers, it's a car sharing service where you can use a car by the hour or day without the hassles of owning or renting a car.
12. Zombies: One of my favorite scary movie creatures! Have you ever seen Shawn of the Dead? Freakin' hysterical, but still a bit scary!
13. Zappa: Frank and MoonUnit, in particular, always intrigued me. One of my fav Frank Zappa songs is Montana: I might be movin' to Montana soon Just to raise me up a crop of Dental Floss Raisin' it up Waxen it down In a little white box I can sell uptown By myself I wouldn't Have no boss, But I'd be raisin' my lonely Dental Floss and who can forget his song, Valley Girl, featuring his daughter, Moon, talking in Valleyspeak

2. Yankee: I'm a damn yankee and proud of it! I live in New England, the best place on earth! Well...ok, I really love Japan and France and Scotland and Hawaii, but still...And I certainly don't mean that baseball team from NY!
3. Yawning: How many of you yawned when you read that word? You KNOW you did!
4. Yin Yang: I've always loved the symbol for yin yang, it represents the feminine and the masculine, the spiritual and the physical, and the emotional and the rational.
5. You-Know-Who: A nickname spoken instead of a person's name...like for Voldemort and an old boyfriend of mine (but not SFSSDMF!)
6. yellow: I always wanted a yellow kitchen, bright and full of sunshine :-)
7. Yesterday: Hindsight is 20/20, eh?
8. Yippee-ki-yay, Motherf*cker: One of the funniest lines ever in a movie!

11. Yum: I say yum to the yaki imo man!
12. Yakota Air Base: Where I was lucky enough to work for almost 2 years; met some great people, some interesting characters and made a lifelong friend or two!
13. Young Frankenstein: One of my FAVORITE movies!
Frau Blucher: I am Frau Blucher. [horses whinny]
and
Dr. Frankenstein: For the experiment to be a success, all of the body parts must be enlarged.
Inga: His veins, his feet, his hands, his organs vould all have to be increased in size.
Dr. Frankenstein: Exactly.

1. Xavier, Professor Charles: One of my favorite characters in X-Men; portrayed by one of my favorite actors, Patrick Stewart. Yum!
2. xylophone: A musical instrument in the percussion family which is much fun to play!
3. Xyrophobia: A fear of razors, which only happens to me in certain horror movies LOL!
4. X, Malcolm: Someone that I admire. I really didn't know much about him until I read The Autobiography of Malcolm X, and found he was an amazing man!
5. Xanthus: Means yellow, a beautiful sunshiney color!
6. Xenophilius Lovegood: A new character that we'd heard about in other Harry Potter books referred to as "Luna's father"; in the last book, we finally get to meet him.
7. Xiang: Means Fragrant, and we all know how much I love scents (good ones, that is!) [Chinese]
8. Xiomara: Teutonic for beautiful forest.
9. Xochiquetzal: An Aztec god, she is Flower Feather, the ever young and pretty goddess of flowers, love, pleasure and beauty. She is a patron of artists. Xochiquetzal is often displayed surrounded by flowers and butterflies, and accompanied by a hummingbird or an ocelot.
10. Xochipili: Xochiquetzal's twin brother, he is called the Flower Prince and is the god of flowers, pleasure, feasting, frivolity and artistic creativity. [Aztec]
11. Xochipilli: is a day for creating beauty and truth, especially that which speaks to the heart who knows it will one day cease to beat. Xochitl reminds us that life, like the flower, is beautiful but quickly fades. It is a good day for reflection, companionship and poignancy; it is a bad day for repressing deep-seated wishes, desires and passions.[Aztec]
12. Xolotl: the Twin, the Shapeshifter, Venus as the Evening Star, the Lord of the West, Double of Quetzalcoatl. Xolotl is the dog-like deity, often depicted with ragged ears. He is identified with sickness and physical deformity. As a double of Quetzalcoatl, he carries his conch-like ehecailacacozcatl or wind jewel. Xolotl accompanied Quetzalcoatl to Mictlan, Land of the Death or the underworld, to retrieve the bones from those who inhabited the previous world (Nahui Atl) to create new life for the present world, Nahui Ollin, the sun of movement. In a sense, this re-creation of life is reacted every night when Xolotl guides the sun through the underworld.[Aztec]
13. Xiu: A girl's name, meaning beautiful plum. [Chinese]

Thirteen Things I love that begin with the letter W
!. Wolf: My dog, my beautiful little shiba inu! Course he doesn't think he's little...he'd take on a Nazgul for me if he had to...and probably kick it's ass!
2. Wicked: A typical New England expression that I use often!
3. Wingardium Leviosa: A spell used to levitate things, from the Harry Potter books. In The Sorcerer's Stone, Hermione says: "Stop, stop stop! You're going to take someone's eye out. Besides, you're saying it wrong. It's Levi-OOO-sa, not Levio-SA." and Ron makes horrible fun of her for it later.
4. Weasleys: Ron is my favorite character of the trio, the one I identify with most (of the trio; of all the characters I identify with Luna most...and Snape). The Twins are my favorite Weasleys...I've got a thing about twins, did you know?
5. Walking: I love walking, especially with the dogs!
6. What's Eating Gilbert Grape: One of my favorite Depp movies, he was, as always, amazing brilliant in it.
Momma: You're my knight in shimmering armor. Did you know that?
Gilbert: I think you mean shining.
Momma: No shimmering. You shimmer, and you glow.
7. Wine: With cheese, by itself, red or white, it's all good!
8. Whimsical: I love those word, it makes me smile :-)
9. Worn: Applied to your favorite jeans, it's a great word!
10. Wander: I enjoy wandering...here and there...there and here...wherever my feet and/or car takes me.
11. Wizard: Altho there are wizards and witches in Harry Potter, whenever I hear the word "wizard" I think of Gandalf. Always!
12. Windy: I love when it's windy out; when the trees shiver in the breeze. We had some STRONG gusts of wind last night. I left poor Wolf outside in the beginning rain...he just looked at me like: "How COULD you!"
13. What Is And What Should Never Be: One of my favorite Zep songs:
So if you wake up with the sunrise
And all your dreams are still as new
And happiness is what you need so bad
Girl, the answer lies with you, yeah
Also, Whole Lotta Love, which, I SWEAR I didn't know was also called the orgasm song, off the record. I TOLD you I didn't like Zep back in the day!

Thirteen Things I love that begin with the letter V
1. Vampire: I've always liked vampires, the idea of vampires, the sexuality of vampires.
2. Veil: Reminds me of the Order of the Phoenix, when Sirius fell through the veil.
3. Vague: Luna Lovegood is described as being vague and dreamy; although she is viewed by the other students as an object of ridicule and scorn, she is serene, calm and utterly sure of herself. She's my second favorite character in Harry Potter. Who's my first? Look up!
4. Vacation: Who, besides MaryEllen, doesn't like vacations? I could use another one! What was your favorite vacation?
5. Vino: Delicious red wine, cold, crisp white wine...it's all good!
6. Vinegar: Mmmmm...balsamic, apple cider...it's all good!
7. Vanish: Sometimes, I have to vanish for a bit to get my fix of peace and quiet.
8. Vegetables: I love my veggies! Can't think of a single kind I don't like! Had fresh corn on the cob last night, first time this summer. YUM!
9. Velvet: Love a man who's secure enough in his masculinity to wear velvet *cough* Robert Plant *cough*
10. Verandah: Sitting out on the verandah sipping a sweet tea...sounds so southern, doesn't it?
11. Veterinarian: Took me awhile to find one that clicked with Wolf...shibas are notorious for being disliked by vets. Dr. Smith loves him...or pretends to, but if so, it's a great act!
12. Vicar of Dibley: Saw this show recently for the first time, and I was in STITCHES! Stitches, I tell you! Did you know Johnny Depp was on this show once?

cause I just left the planet Earth.
Where I go I hope there's rum.
Not to worry monsoon come.I don't know, I don't know,
I don't know where I'm a gonna go
when the volcano blow. (Mr. Utley!)Don't want to land no San Diego.
Don't want to land in no Buzzards Bay.
I don't want to land on no Ayatolla.
I got nothin' more to say.

There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That- that's about it.

Thirteen Things On My Mind
1. Cirque du Soleil's Love. Ringo summed it up best: "I loved the show and I loved the music! I think the show is really exciting. I thought the effects, the people doing their stuff, the projections were great, too much, really! I thought it was very emotional; who knew a few years ago when The Beatles were just chatting to each other making those records that we could put it to such great use. And it was emotional because two of us aren't there. Overall, it's a festival of love. Peace and love."
Click on this for a peek at the costumes! And some still photos here, here, and here.
2. Paris Las Vegas: I'd read some negative reviews about the hotel and staff, but I'm here to tell you, it was a fantastic experience I'd repeat again in a heartbeat (but only to see Love!)
3. Mammogram: Went for one today and there another woman who had the same name as me. They called Janet, and I didn't hear...so the other Janet got "my" exam. Don't these folks check last names? Birthdates? Quite the snafu, and took a while to straighten out.
4. Yearly physical: Had one of those a few weeks ago, everything was fine, cholesterol was excellent, woohoo! Doc did say I didn't have much vitamin D in my system, so I have to take supplements for eight weeks.
5. Wolf: No more seizures, knock on wood. He was quite feisty Monday at the vet's ... tried to grab her, I think it was in retaliation for the old thermometer up the butt thing! He missed tho, she's fast!
6. Tattoo: I've decided on a new design; it's going on my left foot in shades of firey red and orange.
7. Weddings: I've got a few coming up this summer that I'll be photographing; finally made plane reservations for one that'll be in St. Thomas.
8. Garden: Got it in late...I'm thinking I won't see tomatoes til September LOL! The herbs are doing nicely tho.
9. Amazon Wish List: I've been adding to it like crazy, it's a good place for me to put stuff so that I'll remember to buy it or at least remember that I'm interested in it! I've also been saving things on Kaboodle, but mostly recipes and URLs I want to remember.
10. Long drive: Down to MD after the 4th of July. Engagement party, gotta take pictures! Don't much feel like flying, I enjoy driving, I really do!
11. On my own: Been enjoying it, perhaps too much; for example, I had about 10 phone calls at work today and I BARELY had the patience to be civil (I don't generally get phone calls...but still). I'm going to become a curmudgeonly, eccentric old lady if I don't watch out!
12. Two more entertainment related things to look forward to this summer: First is the Harry Potter movie, Order Of The Phoenix, and second is the "end of all things", the last Harry Potter book, The Deathly Hallows. I'm utterly anticipating the former; the latter...well...yes and no. It'll be nice to see that Snape IS a good person after all, but...I don't really relish his death, and I know he has to die.
Loved this quote from EW Online: "As the icy, humorless magic instructor Severus Snape in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (opening July 11), Rickman may not be on screen long — but he owns every minute. He's magnificently intimidating, whether jousting with Daniel Radcliffe's Harry or turning a simple retort (''No idea'') into a mini-symphony of contempt."
Also quoted at that link was this: "He's the lecherous Judge Turpin opposite Johnny Depp in Tim Burton's Sweeney Todd." Oh me, oh my *fanning myself* the two of them together...a dream come true!!! Click here for a lovely picture of the good professor.
13. The End: Last song in Love, from the Beatles' Abbey Road album:
And in the end
The love you take
Is equal to the love
You make

Thirteen Things I love that begin with the letter Q
1. Q: Played by John de Lancie, Q is perhaps an omnipotent being, mischievous and has a flair for the dramatic. Once of my favorite characters from Star Trek: TNG!
2. Quiescence: A state of being quiet or at rest; I love the way the word sounds as much as what it means!

7. Quaint: Such a lovely word, except in real estate LOL!
8. Quartz: So pretty! I have a beautiful rose quartz a friend gave me; it's said to have a healing property: "It will allow you to get to know your true self and to love that true self in all its beauty." Can't hurt, might help!
9. Quench: Is there anything better than an ice cold glass of water on a hot summer's day to quench your thirst?
10. Quintessence: "The most perfect embodiment of something." First thing that comes to mind is Alan Rickman as Professor Snape. It also means "the fifth essence or element, ether, supposed to be the constituent matter of the heavenly bodies, the others being air, fire, earth, and water." Hmmm....
11. Quirky: Quirky people make life that much more interesting, don't you agree?
12. Quality: Much better than quantity, in most things ;-)
13. Quiver: Only Robert Plant could use that word in a song and not have it sound terribly...contrived:
Now my body is starting to quiver
And the palms of my hands getting wet
I've got no reason to doubt you baby,
It's all a terrible mess.I'll run in the rain till I'm breathless
When I'm breathless I'll run till I drop, hey
The thoughts of a fool's kind of careless
I'm just a fool waiting on the wrong block.

Why is the rum always gone?
I'm taking a break from the alphabet this week in honor of the release of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End tonight (yes, I'm going, d'oh!)! Without further ado, here are
Thirteen Quotes I love from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies
13. Elizabeth: Captain Barbossa , I am here to negotiate the cessation of hostilities against Port Royal. Barbossa: There are a lot of long words in there, Miss; we're naught but humble pirates. What is it that you want? Elizabeth: I want you to leave and never come back. Barbossa: I'm disinclined to acquiesce to your request. Means "no".
12. Barbossa: First, your return to shore was not part of our negotiations nor our agreement so I must do nothing. And secondly, you must be a pirate for the pirate's code to apply and you're not. And thirdly, the code is more what you'd call "guidelines" than actual rules. Welcome aboard the Black Pearl, Miss Turner .
11. Pintel: [opens door of the closet] 'Ello, Poppet.
10. Will Turner: You cheated. Jack Sparrow: Pirate.
9. Barbossa: For too long I've been parched of thirst and unable to quench it. Too long I've been starving to death and haven't died. I feel nothing. Not the wind on my face nor the spray of the sea. Nor the warmth of a woman's flesh. [steps into moonlight becoming a skeleton] You best start believing in ghost stories Miss Turner. You're in one.
8. Barbossa: You're off the edge of the map, mate. Here there be monsters.
7. Jack Sparrow: Now... bring me that horizon. [humming] "And really bad eggs." Drink up me 'earties. Yo ho. [snaps compass shut]
6. Jack Sparrow: We are very much alike, you and I, I and you... us. Elizabeth Swann: Oh. Except for a sense of honor and decency and a moral center. And personal hygiene. Jack Sparrow: [Sniffs his armpit and looks back] Trifles.
5. Tia Dalma: Would you do it? Hm? What would you... Hm? What would any of you be willing to do, hm? Would you sail to the ends of the Earth and beyond to fetch back witty Jack and him precious Pearl?
4. Elizabeth Swann: There will come a moment when you will have a chance to show it. To do the right thing. Jack Sparrow: I love those moments. I like to wave at them as they pass by.
3. Jack Sparrow: 'Ello, beastie. [smiles and draws his sword]
2. Tia Dalma: The compass you bartered from me it cannot lead you to this? Jack Sparrow: Maybe. Why? Tia Dalma: Ah, Jack Sparrow does not know what he wants.
1. Will Turner: What vexes all men? Tia Dalma: What, indeed. Gibbs: Well, the sea! Pintel: Sums! Ragetti: The dichotomy of good and evil. Jack Sparrow: A woman.

2. Jasmine: One of my favorite scents, especially night blooming jasmine!
3. Jellyfish: They're pretty floating in the water...and damn good in a salad, too!
I'd like to be a jellyfish
'Cause jellyfish don't pay rent

They're just simple protoplasm
Clear as cellophane
They ride the winds of fortune
Life without a brain
Mental Floss, Jimmy Buffett

When I'm down
So much joy
When I lose my way your love comes smiling on me
I saw your face
And then I knew
We would be friends
I was so afraid, but your arms, they'd say 'come to me'So I'd say to you
"Can we talk for a while?"
You'd say "alright"
When you love me, I smile
I feel your hands and you feel mine
You bring me joyYou bring me joy
Don't go too far away
If I can't see your face, I will remember that smileBut can this be right
Or should we be friends
I get lonely sometimes and I'm mixed up again
'Cause you're the finest thing I've seen in all my life
You bring me joyMy joy, my joy
I believe this is gonna be what you want it to be
I just love you, I just love you, can't you see
That you're the best I've seen in all my life
You bring me joyMy joy... you're my joy
My joy... my, my joyThank you, baby, thank you, baby
I just love you, baby
When I lose my way, your love comes smiling on me

Thirteen of my favorite Johnny Depp movies
1. My absolute favorite is Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. Hot & sexy Depp at his best!
2. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. I know it didn't get good reviews, but I really don't know why! I loved Bill Nighy as Davy Jones! His mannerisms just cracked me up.
3. Finding Neverland. The man should've won an Oscar for this...he was so damn good in this movie!
4. Dead Man. I saw this on tv one day...and was entranced. Not for everyone, tho!
5. From Hell: Johnny on opium...chasing a murderer...in England...ahhhh
6. Chocolat. Yum!
7. Don Juan DeMarco: Quirky and loveable
8. Edward Scissorhands: Amazing the people this guy has worked with...Vincent Price was awesome!

10. Nick of Time. With Christopher Walken!
11. Sleepy Hollow. Again with a very scary Mr. Walken.
12. The Ninth Gate. Filmed in France! With Frank Langella, who was QUITE sexy back in the day as Dracula.
13. What's Eating Gilbert Grape. More quirky and loveable.

Thirteen Pets Who've Owned My Heart
1. Tippy: She was my first cat, fluffy, grey & white...and also the first ghost I ever saw.
2. Cocoa:
She was my first dog. We got her from my piano teacher up the street...Cocoa's mother was apparently the whore of the neighborhood...each puppy looked like a male that lived nearby. She had 5 of them.
3. Jasiah: My first Siamese...she was amazing! Kind & gentle and smart as a whip; she loved to play fetch.
4. Boris & Karloff:
Technically, they weren't mine, but belonged the guy I was living with. Both german shephards, Boris was an exceptional dog. Karloff...she was a bit flaky. Yes, that's me in the picture...ROFLMAO!
5. Meow:
She was a Maine Coon Cat and LOVED spaghetti...see!!!
6. Bruno: My first dog ... which of course my parents ended up owning. He was a Doberman Pinscher, and that dog was BRILLIANT. He was owned by a Chinese couple and understood only Chinese when we first got him from the humane society. He LOVED to run and play and to have his picture taken. He lived a good long life, and I think of him often.
7. Toy:
My gorgeous tortoiseshell persian...she had orange eyes and was just the sweetest cat. Here she is with two kittens from her first litter.
8. Squeaky:
He was a grey cheek parrotlet...he was the funniest thing! I could tell him to "play dead" and he'd lay on his back in my hand and turn his head to the side, closing his eyes...but he'd open one real quick to see if I was looking, then close it again.
9. Abby:
My beautiful Abyssinian cat; these are her kittens. When my first ex and I broke up and I had to move to an apartment, I could only have one cat...and I chose Toy
10. Cameo:
She was a gorgeous cat, a long hair calico, but dang, she could be mean. Michael loved her (and Toy, too), tho! That's Michael's nephew, Jason, in the picture with Cameo.
11. Molly:
She was born in England and was a barn cat before she "moved" to the states with her military family. We agreed to watch her for friends, and fell in LOVE...couldn't let her go lol! She was destined to have a well traveled life, she came with us to Japan. She loved chocolate donuts and could be trusted outside; she'd come when I called her. She loved nothing better to lay in the sun all day! (that's Max with her)
12. Jasper:
I was innocently driving past a house at the end of my road one day when I saw a sign that said...Free Kittens. Hmmm...won't hurt to just look at them, will it? Nah...and just like that, Jasper came home with me. She was a gorgeous black & white half persian (an oops!) cat.
13. Chibi:
Ahhhhh, Chibi! I still miss that little divil! He was a miniature pinscher and just FULL of the devil! He was soo much fun; he and Wolf would play fight like crazy, even tho he was all of 12 pounds, he wouldn't back down. He lives on a farm in CT now...he was having aggression issues with Dad. Even Dad misses him tho LOL! That's Max in the picture with him.

Thirteen of My Favorite Movie Characters
1. Let's get the obvious of of the way first, Professor Snape from the Harry Potter movies. I know he's supposed to be a not so nice character...but oh my, that voice! I can see why Alan Rickman was Ms. Rowling's first choice for this character. I also really like the character of Professor Lupin, as portrayed by David Thewlis and the original Professor Dumbledore. RIchard Harris nailed that part...the new Dumbledore, not so much...not so much at all. A bit of advice to him: Read the books.
2. Aragorn from the LOTR Trilogy. A loner, with vast responsibilites weighing heavily on his shoulders. Not to mention Viggo Mortensen was tossed into the movies at the last second, and did a fantabulous job! My other favs from this movie are Orlando Bloom as Legoas, Karl Urban as Eomer (YUM!), Ian McKellen as Gandalf & Elijah Wood as Frodo.
3. Doc Holiday, from the movie Tombstone, as portrayed by Val Kilmer. Snarky wit does it for me every time! I also loved Val as Jim Morrison, in the movie The Doors and of course, Iceman from Top Gun.
4. Captain Jack Sparrow! No need to say anything more about this one :-) I also loved Depp's performance as Roux in Chocolat, Don Juan in Don Juan DeMarco, William Blake in Dead Man and Edward Scissorhands, the role that made me a Depp fan.
5. Maude from the movie Harold & Maude, as portrayed by Ruth Gordon. She made me laugh, she made me cry, she made me think.
6. Casanova, as portrayed by Heath Ledger, from the movie Casanova. Mmmmm...yummy!
7. Renton, as portrayed by Ewan McGregor in Trainspotting. The accent alone was enough to do it for me!
8. Katsumoto, as portrayed by Ken Watanabe, in The Last Samurai. His role intrigued me...and I wanted the camera to linger more on him then on Tom Cruisin' for a bruisin'.
9. Josephine 'Jo' March, as portrayed by Katherine Hepburn in Little Women. I wanted to be just like Jo!
10. Andrew Beckett, portrayed by Tom Hanks, and Joe Miller, portrayed by Denzel Washington, in the movie, Philadelphia. The emotion in both their characters...amazing. What an awesome movie!
11. Captain Daniel Gregg, portrayed by Rex Harrison in The Ghost & Mrs. Muir. Stubborn ghost!
12. The Ghost of Christmas Present, as portrayed by Carol Kane in the movie Scrooged. She is so damn funny!
13. Finally, Count Dracula, as portrayed by Frank Langella, in the movie Dracula. That was one sexy vampire!

Thirteen Scents from Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab that I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of!
1. R.M. Renfield: A mixture of moss, cumin, patchouli, Balsam of Peru (a resin which has a complex aroma consisting chiefly of cinnamon and vanilla notes with a slight floral character) and neroli (spicy aroma with sweet and flowery notes). Renfield is a character in Bram Stoker's novel, Dracula.
2. Anathema: Black opium, with vetivert and honeysuckle. Had to look up vetivert: Deep, warm, smoky, earthy, woody with some sweetness. Perhaps damp earth combined with burnt wood and molasses.
3. Sed Non Satiata: Myrrh, red patchouli, cognac, honey, tuberose, geranium and musk. This one generally got rave reviews on the BPAL Board
4. Severin: Dry black teas, Earl Gray, and leather (Severin is a character in a book by Leopold von Sacher-Masoch)
5. O: Amber and honey with a touch of vanilla.
6. Jolly Roger: Sea spray with an undercurrent of leather, Bay Rum, and salty, dry woods (yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me!)
7. Bengal: Musk with honey, peppers, clove, cinnamon bark and ginger.
8. Midnight: Evening primrose, ruellia, flowering nicotiana, wild petunia, panani-o-kai (also known as night blooming Cereus), night phlox, night gladiolus, moonflower and the elusive scent of Nottingham Catchfly (sweet and reminiscent of hyacinths).
9. Hetairae: Honey, fiery patchouli, sweet fig, clove and ylang ylang.
10. Morocco: Arabian spices wind through a blend of warm musk, carnation, red sandalwood and cassia
11. Blood Kiss: Lush, creamy vanilla and the honey of the sweetest kiss smeared with the vital throb of husky clove, swollen red cherries, but darkened with the vampiric sensuality of vetiver, soporific poppy and blood red wine, and a skin-light pulse of feral musk.
12. Vixen: The innocence of orange blossom tainted by the beguiling scents of ginger and patchouli.
13. Dragon's Blood: A bright red resin that is obtained from certain plants (Dracaena and Daemonorops being the main two). This scent of this resin alone intrigues me, but BPAL mixes it with various other scents which sound like they would smell SO good: Dragon's Claw: Adds three sandalwoods to the mix; Dragon's Eye: Adds lily of the valley, lilac and galbanum ("fixes and enhances the substances with which it is mixed; its aroma is resinous, balsamic, green, sharp and intense"; good for calming anxiety); Dragon's Hide: Adds leather and a hint of smoke and finally, Dragon's Milk: Adds honeyed vanilla. Yum!

Thirteen Bloggers who know me well
[based on the answers to last week's Thursday Thirteen!]
1. Maribeth got all 13! My cousin, my friend, she's been there all my life :-)
2. Followed by Megan, who also got 'em all correct. My friend in real life; we might not always see eye to eye, and we'd had two fights which resulted in our not speaking for quite some time, but we seem to keep gravitating to each other and for that I'm grateful!
3. Lisa got 12 out of 13; she only missed #8, and that was pretty much a trick question! I've not met Lisa, I only know her through blogging, she's a fantastic photographer and is a pretty damn good mom, too.
4. Zoot also scored 12; she only missed chips, as did most women! The predominant answer by far on this question was chocolate, vehemently in some cases! I've not met Zoot yet, either, but I know I will! She shares my love of Harry Potter, among other things.
5. Heather got 11 out of 13; she got the pickle & soup wrong. Heather is studying to be a doctor and for awhile, I kinda thought her father was Chef Morimoto ;-) I only got to meet her a few times when she lived in Boston, but that was enough to know I wanted to keep her as a friend :-) Her Mom's pretty cool, too!
6. Heather, aka Ocean Blue Fire, also got 11 correct; she thought I'd like to be chauffered while eating sweet pickles, yuck! This Heather is a newer read for me, she was the first person I met through blogging who bought one of my pictures! She was recently my 7777th commenter, and I sent her an Imp's Ear of perfume for her trouble :-)
7. Michelle got 10 out of 13; she opined that I like sweet pickles, HP more than LOTR and chocolate more than chips...no, no, no! I met Michelle via blogging two years ago...I'd've thought she'd've given up on me by now, we're no more alike than birds & elephants, but it works somehow!
8. Michele also got 10 correct; she thought I'd prefer a house in the city, with cheddar cheese & apples, and some chocolate. Wolf doesn't like city noises, sorry! This Michele lives in my favorite state for boyfriends, she's a classic overachiever and uses one of my pictures for her blog header! Looking forward to meeting her one day :-)
9. racyli got 10 correct, too not bad for someone who doesn't know me in the least LOL! Chicken noodle soup, HP & 2nd husband were her incorrect guesses. I think I've read racyli's blog once...so she's a damn good guesser!
10. Allie, 10 out of 13, again, not bad, goes to prove a little luck goes a long way! Chicken noodle soup, Paris & chocolate is incorrect :-) Allie doesn't even strike a bell, so she's ALSO a damn good guesser!
11. Looloo was the final one to get 10 correct; she guessed Chicken noodle, Paris & white wine incorrectly. Krista I met through blogging/Megan, and in some ways she's very much like me, in that she likes odd things. In other ways, we're nothing alike LOL!
12. Laura was the first to get 9 out of 13; she guessed sweet pickles, HP movies & chocolate, and couldn't make a choice between the two ex-husbands. I met Laura last year for the first time; no matter WHAT she says to the contrary, she's got AWESOME hair, and she's great fun to be with, one of the most caring folks I've ever met.
13. Caryle also guessed 9; she had absolutely no idea on which soup or movie or husband I preferred, and she chose chocolate - "because you can't NOT pick chocolate"! Caryle is also someone I don't know very well, but I think I might ask her to pick some lottery numbers for me, lucky girl! All these folks have interesting blogs; check them out! And to each of them, as well as all the others, thank you all for playing along last week, it was great fun!

Thirteen of my favorite Christmas songs
Do you know what they are?
1. When I was small I believed in Santa Claus / Though I knew it was my dad
2. You're a three decker sauerkraut and toadstool sandwich / With arsenic sauce.
3. I'm so hard to handle / I'm selfish and I'm sad
4. Santa Claus is not a musician, man! / I'm hip, man! That cat didn't know ANY tunes, man!
5. From base to summit, gay and bright / There's only splendor for the sight.
6. A&P has provided me / With the world's smallest turkey
7. And so I'm offering this simple phrase / To kids from one to ninety-two,
8. He sees you when you're sleeping / He knows if you're awake
9. Faithful friends who are dear to us / Gather near to us once more
10. And as I turned to make my way back home / The snow turned into rain
11. What a bright time, it's the right time / To rock the night away
12. Then one foggy Christmas Eve / Santa came to say:
13. When it snows / ain't it thrilling

Thirteen Things I'm Thankful For
(me and 2 gazillion other T13ers LOL)
1. ...new friends and old! Happy Thanksgiving!
2. ...the fun I had traveling this year--Georgetown & DC with MaryEllen last January; the cruise I took in Feb with MaryEllen, Maureen & Kim; the trip to Toronto in May to see the Lord of the Rings play; getting some new, improved memories of VA from my trip there in June with MaryEllen and visiting Mo's new house in the Northeast Kingdom, aka Vermont in August.
3. ...the fact that Mom is at peace...and having fun, apparently!
4. ...being able to spend Thanksgiving with Maribeth!
5. ...getting my new camera :-)
6. ...the concerts I got to see this year: John Fogerty, the Pretenders, Dr. John, Leon Russell, Enter The Haggis, BNL and a gazillion bagpipers at the Glasgow Lands Scottish Festival out in Northampton, MA
7. ...being able to mend a pretty big rip in the fabric of friendship with Megan
8. ...the comments on my blog...as well as the people who leave them!
9. ...healing and positive thoughts
10. ...my new tattoo!
11. ...discovering Aveda Comforting Tea
12. ...creating a new signature scent, which I named "Snape"
13. ...as I said last year, I'm still thankful, strange as this may sound, for each and every experience I've been through in life, good and bad.

As promised, here are the recipes (click on the thumbnails to be able to read the recipes)!
1. Pumpkin Soup, from The Joy of Cooking...one word...YUM!
2. The BEST potato salad ever, from Julia's Kitchen Wisdom; Jack said so, therefore, it must be true!
3. Spinach with Sesame Dressing, from Japanese Cooking: A Simple Art. A refreshing way to prepare spinach!
4. Sweet Simmered Dried Shitake Mushrooms, from The Japanese Kitchen. Oh, man...so good!
5. Marinated Chicken Tatsuta-Style, from At The Japanese Table. All the things in this recipe are readily available in most major grocery stores. Amazingly delicious!!!
6. Sweet Potato Casserole, from The Cotton Country Collection. I've made this every year since I got the book...my brother always asks...are you making that sweet potato thing this year?
7. Baked Whole Pumpkin from The Frugal Gourmet. If you like pumpkin pie without the crust, this is for you! Plus it makes a great presentation...you can use smaller pumpkins and serve each person individually.
8. Sue Riding High, from Wild Women In The Kitchen. If you like chocolate, you'll like this!
9. Poached chicken, from Nantucket Open House Cookbook. Try it...it's the most delicious way to cook chicken for salad EVER!
10. Jambalaya, from Celebrate San Antonio: A Cookbook. Let me tell you a little story about this recipe. I made it once for a guy I was dating...and he told my roommate that the "things" in there looked like vag!nas ("things" being oysters). No wonder "men like it" ROFLMAO!
11. Tweed Kettle, from Scottish Cookery. Thought it'd be haggis, didnae ye! An interested way to prepare salmon.
12. White Mountain Frosting (every time I've typed "frosting" tonight it came out either"frontong" or "frostong"...wtf?), from Betty Crocker's New Picture Cookbook. My first ex-MIL made the BEST freakin' cakes and she always made this frosting!
13. Tilly's Banana Fritters from "100 Years of Family Recipes & Memories 1890-1990", which was compiled by my Auntie Rosa. Tilly was my Dad's mom and my favorite Grandmother (shhhhhh). If you can read while Auntie Rosa wrote, you'll see why!

The only ones on this list I wear anymore at #s 12 and 13 :-)
1. Passion: "...blend of intense florals including jasmine and vanilla"
2. Vanilla Fields: "...a blend of warm, rich vanilla and soft, white jasmine"; reminds me of my friend Gaylen
3. Tresor: "...a blend of lilac and apricot, with lower notes with amber and musk"
4. Tabu: "...a blend of rich rose, orange blossom, jasmine, vetiver, oakmoss, amber and musk"; wore this in high school, my mother HATED it
5. Toujour Moi: "...a blend of sandalwood and vetiver, with a floral touch and musky undertones." I liked it cause it came in a unicorn shaped bottle, and no, that wasn't last year, shut it!)
6. Calvin Klein's Obession: "...a blend of vanilla, amber, orange blossom, oakmoss and other oriental spices"; you know how some scents just flip you back in time? This one does it for me. I can't smell it without thinking of my first love, Michael.
7. Anais Anais: "...a blend of cedar, leather, blooming gardenia, jasmine, and lily of the valley"; ahhhh, memories ;-)
8. Liz Claiborne's Reality: "...a blend of rose, white lily, sage, vanilla, amber, jasmine, carnation and a hint of peach"; reminds me of my friend Betsy very much
9. Lou Lou: "...a blend of rich spices and flowers, with notes of amber"
10. Laguna by Salvador Dali: "a blend of light florals and soft exotic fresh oriental spices"; I found this in a store in Tokyo and fell in love with the scent...AND the bottle!
11. Aqua Di Gio: "...a blend of fresh floral, sweet pea, jasmine"
12. Angel: "a blend of vanilla, sandalwood, and patchouli, accompanied by fruity notes of fresh citrus, melons, peaches, and plums"; why this smelled like fresh pine trees the first time I got a whiff of it in a Sephora on the Champs Elysees in Paris is beyond me!
13. Snape: "...my concoction of 50% Angel and 50% Tunisium opium (VERY smoky)"; it's usually what I wear now.

I'm the kind of person who can read a cookbook cover to cover, like a regular book. I thumb through them, stopping when something catches my eye.
1. The Joy of Cooking by Rombauer & Becker: I've had this since the early 80s and used it VERY often
2. Julia's Kitchen Wisdom by Julia Child. THE best potato salad recipe ever. Just ask Jack!
3. Japanese Cooking: A Simple Art by Shizuo Tsuji with an introduction by MFK Fisher
4. The Japanese Kitchen by Hiroko Shimbo
5. At The Japanese Table by Leslie Downer (When I moved back from Japan, I was SO homesick for it I went out and bought these three books because some of the recipes in them were exactly how things had been cooked in Japan. Fantastic, all three of them!)
6. The Cotton Country Collection by the Monroe, LA Junior League. My friend Gaylen gave this to me for my birthday one year; I can remember laying out on a blanket in her yard, sunbathing and lazily flipping through the pages. One of my staples for Thanksgiving, Sweet Potato Casserole, I found in this one.
7. The Frugal Gourmet by Jeff Smith: Yes, he may or may not have done some horrible things, but prior to finding that out, I so enjoyed his shows and books. Every Saturday morning, and old boyfriend and live in love, Michael and I would watch Julia, Jeff, Justin (Wilson, the Cajun Chef) and PeeWee's Playhouse before we'd go do whatever the day had in store.
8. Wild Women In The Kitchen: 101 Rambunctions Recipes & 99 Tasty Dips: My friend MaryEllen gave this to me as a joke, but I love the little stories and recipes.
9. Nantucket Open House Cookbook by Sarah Lee Chase. I think I bought this for my friend Diane, but fell in love with it and kept it for myself. The design of it alone is pleasing to the eye :-)
10. Celebrate San Antonio: A Cookbook by the San Antonio Junior League. Michael (mentioned above) traveled to San Antonio area often for work (Azzy, you know what I'm talking about) and he'd always bring me back something. He knew I collected cookbooks and gave me this...it has a fanTAStic recipe for gumbo in it!
11. Scottish Cookery by Christopher Trotter. Bought this on a trip to Scotland, hey, a girl might need to make a haggis sometime, och aye!
12. Betty Crocker's New Picture Cookbook: My first MIL gave me this book for Christmas one year...in the book was a note she'd written to me: I got this cookbook at a yard sale. They don't make new ones like this. If you don't want it, just bring it back, okay. The frosting you like is on page 174, white mtn. frosting. Make sure you cover saucepan immediately when you put it on flame. If you guessed by that note that we had a difficult relationship, you'd've guessed right. Love this cookbook!
13. 100 Years of Family Recipes & Memories 1890-1990 by Rosamond Stevens. This book was put together with much love by my Auntie Rosa (MB & Mel's Mom). She not only wrote down all the old recipes, but she included many of her memories of her entire family. I treasure this book!

1. Plum Island Wild Life Refuge; the only thing I dislike about it is they don't allow dogs
2. Salisbury State Beach Reservation; they allow dogs! In the off season, of course :-)
3. Aquatini; yummy food & drinks
4. Maribeth's house; I always feel welcome there
5. My bed, with my extraordinary comfy pillow that I take with me on every vacation!
6. Cemeteries...they're so peaceful!
7. Great Brook Park; I discovered it when I got Max back in 1997...I might have known about it back in the day but I think I've blocked out alot of stuff. Don't know why!
8. Harvard Square, particularly Grendels, but also Cardullos and just walking around.
9. Megan's beautiful chair; I swear I'll figure a way to steal it!
10. Calvin's arms; it felt like home.
11. Sapporo and Otaru, cities in Hokkaido, Japan; Sapporo reminded me very much of Boston; Otaru, for it's beauty
12. My car; great seats and an awesome stereo
13. Meeting folks in real life that I got to know from blogging; without exception, the ones I connect with via my blog I also connect with when we meet.

1. In Gina's words: "I think Steve was just the kind of person we all want to be."
2. He LOVED what he did, wouldn't we all love to be able to say that?
3. He didn't seem concerned about appearances; other, more important things were on his mind. The man was real, no doubt about it.
4. He had no problems showing his feelings!
5. HIs love of what he did and his excitement, his zest for living, was a pure joy to watch. He was happy; how many of us can say that?
6. When Barbara Walters asked his wife, Terri what she would miss most about Steve, she said: "He was fun, Steve was so much fun and I'll miss that." Steve was fun! Fun seemed to be a priority of his; I can identify with that. He was an amazing father and husband; you only have to listen to his daughter, his wife and his friends speak about him to know this. He brought great joy to those lucky enough to be in his life.
7. He was truly involved, in LOVE with animals, with rescuing them, with ensuring they had fun and were safe!
8. He loved his dog, Sui :-)
9. Things that were tough, he made seem easy. I mean, can you imagine tying up a croc?
10. In Megan's words: "I think the animals had a crush on him too. You could see how much he loved and respected them, and I believe that they knew he was on their side."
11. In a world full of complications, he was a seemingly uncomplicated, simple man.
12. There was something magical about watching him, about seeing him so filled with life and laughter and love.
13. He will be very much missed.

1. Max LOVES to run & jump; he'd be outstanding at agility!
2. Wolf burps REALLY LOUDLY just once after he's done eating.
3. Max was abused as a puppy by a little boy and so has some issues; he's had some therapy for those issues!
4. Wolf's first year was mostly spent indoors; the pads on his paws were as soft as a baby's bottom when I first got him!
5. Max is a pretty golden color.
6. Wolf, while certainly pretty, is a lighter, more faded gold than Max.
7. Max's tail looks like a deer tail!
8. Wolf has been mistaken for a fox.
9. Max's tongue is pink with 5 big black spots!
10. Wolf's tail is very curly, except when he's frightened...then it hangs straight down.
11. Max loves to cuddle and sleep under the blanket on my bed.
12. Wolf only cuddles in the morning, and only for a few minutes. He won't sleep on the bed if I'm in it.
13. Max was an only dog for about a year and he loved it!

1. We can be very forgetful and very forgiving!
2. Understanding uptight people is tough.
3. And watching them freak out is kind of puzzling.
4. We wonder why people just can't chill out.
5. Usually, our houses are messy.
6. Our offices tend to be messy as well, but you know...most times we can find whatever we need.
7. If we run out of an ingredient while cooking, we either add another or make do...and it usually turns out fine!
8. Our dogs are mostly spoiled and happy (reflection of their owners?).
9. We're pretty calm, relaxed and laid back, usually.
10. And this is why Type As tend to gravitate towards us as friends (opposites attract, right?).
11. We pretty much go with the flow.
12. Generally, we "bloom where we are planted".
13. Speaking of planning and changes, Type Bs don't generally have set in stone plans; we might decide to do one thing and when the time comes to do it, decide on something else entirely! Adventure!!! It all works out in the end :-)

1. Autumn! Ohhh, I love the fall. Every last thing about it, well, except that it leads to winter. The foliage, the crisp smell in the air, apples, pumpkins, sweaters, wild wind swirling the leaves about, Halloween!
2. Spring! After a long New England winter, that first day that you don't need to wear a coat is just heaven! And I love all the little flowers peeping thru the ground, and the leaves budding, every last thing about it, well, except for the return of the bugs!
3. Summer! Flip-flops & tshirts, shorts or capris, that's my summer uniform. There is nothing in the world like a day that's hot enough for flip-flops, but cool enough not to need the AC and New England has plenty of those days!
4. The first big snowfall! I get so excited the first day it snows, but by the end of the winter I am OH SO GLAD to see it all gone!
5. The fresh clean smell. I went to FL in late June one year, and when I got back to Manchester, NH and off the plane that was the first thing I noticed. Fresh. Clean. Sweet. Love it!
6. You can drive thru these 6 states in the time it takes you to drive thru just one of many other states.
7. The accents...they just crack me up! Altho I do prefer a southern accent on a man ;-)
8. The ocean: It's not too hot, it's refreshing and it does get warm enough to actually swim in for about 3 weeks in August ;-)
9. The history and culture here.
10. The bugs are normal size, i.e., mostly small and the snakes are mostly not poisonous.
11. The beautiful old houses.
12. Driving out on the back roads, and never knowing when you'll stumble across an old farmhouse, an abandoned apple orchard or what!
13. So many of my friends and all of my family live here :-)

growing up in the early 70s!
First, the good (1-8) followed by the bad (9-13)
1. The MUSIC! Zeppelin, Bowie, T.Rex, Creedence, just to name a few that pop into my head.
2. The fact that you could have unprotected sex and not worry about getting a fatal disease. The only things you had to worry about were pregnancy, crabs or a couple of easily curable STDs, nothing that stayed with you forever like herpes or genital warts or HIV.
3. Radio; it was wild and free and uncensored and no one sued anyone cause they heard the word "fuck" on the radio. Man, I miss Charles Laquidara! Shite!
4. Smoke shops, all over the place. Not for the rolling papers, silly, for the cool roach clips! Not that I used them for their intended purpose. Nope!
5. The Frolics, a club up in Salisbury Beach that is no more and sadly missed! Spent many interesting nights there, listening to the James Montgomery Band, Duke & the Drivers and Joyride Express.
6. Miller lite, in the little cans. They stayed cool longer, I can't guzzle beer, and hate when it gets warm!
7. Being able to experiment, if you wanted to ;-)
8. Hitchhiking: It's how I got around from 14 til I got my license. Met alot of really cool people, only 1 freak, well BAD freak. I saw a hitchhiker on the highway up to Hampton Beach last night, and thought it was ironic, as I was going to see John Fogerty and my absolute favorite song by him is Sweet Hitchhiker. :-)
9. the Vietnam war
10. everyone smoked cigarettes
11. eight tracks
12. the clothes and
13. the hair (as evidenced below)!

I neglected to answer commenter Raggedy's question today; I didn't notice til she brought it to my attention...she asked the question here, instead of here. Anywhere her question is: What do you like about writing?
Writing in my blog is relaxing to me, never stressful, nor do I have a hard time coming up with things to talk about or list in the Thursday 13. Life has so many little things going on in it at any given time, I just need to open my eyes and look around! I don't think writing is a strength of mine, though. Photography, maybe :-)
Writing notes, cards, letters, etc., is something I usually love to do, given the correct pen. After my Mom passed away last December, I had a photo of mine made into thank you cards, bought a quill pen and some ink to write the cards with. Despite that, I have yet to sent out most of the cards. I did 10...then kind of just ... let it be. It was hard to write about it over and over, and so...if you haven't received a thank you card, know that you will, and know that it's just hard for me.
Hope that answered your question, Raggedy!
On another topic, yesterday at work I went downstairs to the vending machine and saw Clamato Tortilla Chips in there!
Now, I will try just about anything once! And this combination sounded intriguing to me :-)
They were actually pretty good! But that red coloring...wasn't that banned??? LOL!
Last night I went to see Chrissie Hynde and the Pretenders up in Hampton Beach. MAN! She still rocks, and she fulfilled my fondest wishes by playing my two favorite Pretenders songs: "Precious" and "Tattooed Love Boys". Who wouldn't love a song with a name like that! It wasn't even too hot up there, apparently a storm front had passed through and cooled things off considerably, which is good because where they were playing isn't air conditioned LOL!
I ran into someone I hadn't seen since high school at the concert. It's surprising to me I recognized her at all because I wasn't close to her, but if I remember correctly, she dated someone I had dated and maybe that's why I remembered her. We spoke briefly and she recognized me, too. Small world :-)
Finally, this news item amused me no end:
J.K. Rowling, Stephen King and John Irving each recently read excerpts from one of their books in two performances at Radio City Music Hall in NYC; the evenings benefitted Doctors Without Borders and The Haven Foundation.
The author Salman Rushdie attended one of the performances and apparently asked JK Rowling something to the effect of whether Snape was good or bad; he asserted that Snape was intrinsically good. Of course, she didn't directly answer the question, but said something like "your opinion is correct." She also supposedly said to him: "I don't feel this is quite fair. You're better at figuring out plots than most."
That probably got a good laugh!

1. Les asked: "Any idea where I can find someone to help me pack my house???" Well, Les, why not try a local college? Or ask someone in your church (if you attend) if they know someone that needs a little cash...or maybe a couple of local teens? Moving is the PITS! I hope ...nope, not saying it, I'll jinx myself!
2. Amy wants to know, "why can't i marry johnny depp??????" I suspect it's cause he's got a girl and you've got a guy, but I could be wrong!
3. Tess asked me, "Who's buried in Grant's Tomb?" Um...Grant, I hope! Or maybe Jimmy Hoffa? Is this a trick question?
4. Amy (aka my secret spoiler!) had a real question: "With whom was your first hard core crush on? Did they know?" Amy...it's a bit hard for me to remember back past 1972 or so...I'm going to say it was Richie Upton (I presume you mean IRL). I met my first best friend, Pat, in the 9th grade, cause I had such a crush on Richie and I knew she knew him. Make friends with the boy's friends, right? Richie was a pretty cool guy; I remember hanging out with him a few times, he even let me paint his fingernails black (his Dad was pretty pissed off about that). Sadly Richie passed away that same year in a car accident. Poor Pat, tho...she and I are STILL friends, oh the things she's had to put up with!
5. Tracie asked, "How do they really know dogs are color blind??" (sorry, Tracie, I can't link to you because I get assaulted with popups each time I click on your link!) They asked Ron L. Hubbard to ask the dogs, or maybe it was Dr. Dolittle, and one of them translated for the dogs. Howzat?
6. Mysterious Lady asked me: "Where is Jimmy Hoffa buried?" Possibly Grant's Tomb? How about on the spaceship that's housing Suri for the time being? Have you checked your back yard and is this just a question to throw the cops off the trail? Hmmm...
7. Something's Missing asks the age old question, "Hey, tell me -- why did the chicken cross the road? :)" To get the worm the early bird missed? Cause a coyote was chasing it? It was curious about life on the other side?
8. christen (who has a GREAT blog name!) wants to know, "when will the next harry potter movie be released?" Not soon enough!!! But I'm betting on 7/7/07.
9. My cousin, Maribeth put me on the spot by asking, "Who is you favorite cousin?" Well, that would have to be my Mom's brother's son, Brian, of course! ;-) ahahahah! But you're a close second, lovie :-)
10. Megan asked a question I've asked myself quite a few times: "If you could change one thing about yourself, be it a physical attribute or personality trait, what would it be and why?" I'd change my low self-esteem issues! My friends would be thankful cause then they wouldn't have to hear my say how ugly I am, etc., etc., ad nauseum!
11. Karen said: "you & your clean & shiny guys- give me Aragorn!! I think I could handle Alan Rickman, the guy, too. Have you seen Love Actually? it IS the voice, isn't it..." Yes, I have seen Love Actually, and I didn't really care for his character in that movie. Really, it's the character of Snape I like...and oh my, yes, the voice is a big reason why! BTW, my aforementioned friend, Pat, has said the very same thing to me in regard to Aragorn & Legolas ROFLMAO!
12. Collen wants to know, "Do you like men in long hair or short hair? (I think I know so I'll ask one I don't, too) What would you say to Jonny Depp if you were introduced to him?" Strangely enough (strange because for most of my adult life I dated guys in the military who were required to have short hair) I like a guy with longish hair. Must be the hippy in me! As for JD...I'd probably stutter something incredibly stupid and ask him to show me his tattoos, like I did with Sean Astin when I met him LOL!
13. Finally (careful opening this, it's not exactly work friendly) Yo Tambien Te Mando Besos asks, "Janet couldn't we just share Johnny Depp? :)" Dude, sure! I'm all about the sharing!
Seeing as how there're only 4 more questioners, y'all are getting a bonus today!
13a. TNChick wants to know: "...what digital cameras do you own and which is your fave?" And also, she asks, "how come, even tho I check "remember me", this thing won't remember my name, email, URL?" I have a Sony DSC-717 and a Canon20d. I love them both, the Canon is more interesting, as I can change lenses (anyone want to buy me a 70-200mm f/2.8L USM lens?), but I end up using the Sony more often, cause I'm less worried about damaging it! Which is stupid, cause it's STILL an expensive camera LOL! And dude, I have NO IDEA why it won't remember you and I'm terribly sorry! Bad, bad thing!
13b. The next question is from RacerX, who was recently in town and got to see me slightly drunk (all I have to say is I'm glad he didn't witness what happened in the bathroom with Krista, me & the guy in the stall). Anyway, he says: "I want to know...how's the tooth???... :-)" I talked about what happened to the tooth here; it'sfine now, better than before and no more Granny Clampett!
13c. Shari said: "I thought I was alone in this world! Glad to discover I'm not the only one who gets a little shivery at the sound of Alan Rickman's voice, especially as Snape. After the first movie, my friends and I were grabbing some snacks and I asked who else thought Snape was strangely hot and they all just looked at me. Oops." She didn't really ask ME this question, but as I think Snape is hot, I thought I'd address it! Oh, no, you are SO not alone in this world in regard to thinking Snape is hot, strangely or otherwise!
13d. Mel rhetorically asked, at the end of a statement: "Yep, it's the Old North Church. Ron and I were there last fall and the pew with the name Captain Timothy Daniell is still there. (of course you knew Tim was named for him?) Um...yes, yes, sure I did! *scratches head* Somewhere deep in the recesses of this thing I call a brain, I did know it. But heck, she won't see this anyway, she's on vacation :-)

**NOTE**
As you can see, I have the 13 answers up, but keep the questions coming! I'll answer them next week and the week after, if necessary!
1. MamaDuck wants to know: "When will my little guy sleep all night long???" My answer, and lord knows I have SO much experience with kids...NOT! is: "Probably about the time his hormones start ragin' ;-)" [I really meant for people to ask questions about me, but hey...this is fun!]
2. Smoochdog asks: "Why are there so many more photos of Wolf on your blog and in flickr than of Max? Don't you love him just the same?" Well, Smooch, I must admit...I'm a bit obsessed with Wolf. Not sure why...but it's like when you fall in love. There's really no explaining it! However, I do love Max, too. I mean...I feed him the same food, take him to his vet appointments AND he gets to run off leash in the woods...hell, he even sleeps with me in the bed!
3. Michele's question is: "Who are the kids on MB's blog? Kidding! (Although, really, I've no idea.) What is your favorite season and why? Ok, Michele, well those kids are the grandchildren of her neighbor up the hill! To answer the next question: My favorite season is autumn, for so many reasons! The weather, the smell in the air, the foliage, I love being able to wear sweaters again, it means Halloween & Thanksgiving & Christmas will be here soon, altho this year, those holidays will be mighty tough.
4. rusvw asks: What was your favorite photo shoot, and why? Currently, it would be Baby Charlotte. She's so photogenic and I just love babies!

Isn't she adorable??!
5. Next up: "If Alan Rickman changed his hairstyle as Snape, would he be as forboding looking? Maybe a mullet, perhaps? What's the best hairstyle for him?, from none other than Lisa, aka Snarkypants (and, as you can tell from the question, she is VERY snarky!). My answer is as follows: Alan Rickman should NEVER change his hairstyle, it's canon Snape at his most perfect! A mullet? Heresey! He has the best hairstyle...altho just for kicks I'd like to see him dye it blond and tie it back, ala Lucius (aka Lucious) Malfoy. Mmmmm....
6. From Yellowrose: "I know you are a Harry Potter fan, obviously, so who do you think dies in the next book?" Definitely Voldemort! The other one...I think might be Harry...altho, these ARE supposed to be kids books and that's really really pretty dark. I mean, I'D cry at that! No marriage to Ginny? No little Potters running about? I hope it's Wormtail...that slimy git deserves it even more than Voldemort!
7. "Why do we have to grow older?" asks Kailani. Damn good question! Growing older, to a point, isn't such a bad thing. We learn by our experiences and become better and more interesting people. Once you start really aging, tho, say in your 70s and 80s, the body just starts to noticeably break down, and that's no fun, no fun at all. I heard a good concept today when Krista shared with me the trailer for the movie, Fountain. The supposition there is our souls are trapped in our bodies and want to get out and be free...interesting, eh? Good question, Kailani!
8. Tink wants to know "Who is your favourite LOTR character?". Ohhhh, Tink...did you know my blog used to be called "fondofelves"? I love me some Legolas!!! So clean and shiny and GOOD! A close second would be Eomer; he's wild and beautiful. For humor, I'd pick the two-some of Merry & Pippin, for sure, and let's not even talk about Billy Boyd's wicked awesome Scottish accent! Oooooh! Now...that's from the movie, tho. From the book, my favourite character was always Bilbo Baggins. Fell in love with that character in The Hobbit (first read it when I was 14), and in LOTR, I was all...who is this Frodo? I want more of Bilbo!
9. Carmen wants to know "Who would you pick, if given the choice of fantasy boyfriend? Alan Rickman or Johnny Depp?" Why, it would have to be Johnny Depp, wouldn't it, given that I really like Alan Rickman's character of Snape more than the actor himself...altho...that voice! Could I have Rickman's voice in the tattooed glory that is Depp? And of course, neither could smoke anymore ;-)
10. rampantbicycle poses an interesting question: "If you could go and live in the world of any book, what would it be? (Bonus points if you actually have a new character in mind for yourself to BE in that book, but you have to tell us what it is! :))" I, of course, would be Bilbo Baggins, happily enscounced in Bag End, smoking my pipe weed, drinking my tea and wine and having adventures :-) Thanks, I liked that question!
11. Krista asks, "If you could choose a time in your life to go back to, what time would that me?" That's a really tough question!!! I've learned so much from my experiences, but of everything, I can narrow it down to this: When I lived in Japan, because I LOVED it there so much! I'm all about seeing, learning & doing new things and it seemed like every day was filled with that. Can I edit SFSSDMF out of that, tho, and exchange him with Calvin? That'd be great, thanks :-)
12. Karen wants to know a bit about my neck of the woods: "What's the best thing about living near Boston? My husband and I want to visit there one day..." There are so many interesting things about Boston and I love to show it off! Judging from the name of your blog, I'd start off with taking you to the Old North Church, where a long ago relative of mine has a pew in his name (it is the Old North Church, right Mel & MB?). There are so many historical churches in the area! The Park Street Church in downtown Boston is absolutely gorgeous and has lovely services. Next, you'd have to check out Fanuiel Hall, cause it's got so many typically Boston-y things going on. Then over to the North End for some yummy Italian food. You'd have to work off that with a stroll along the Charles River and then maybe check out the Fenway, with or without a Red Sox game going on, it's an interesting area! Then there're the places outside Boston, like Newburyport, Salem, oh, I could go on and on! If anyone from around here would like to add to this list, please feel free to do so in comments!
13. Finally, from Amy: "why can't i marry johnny depp??????" Dude, duh, cause he's MINE? Hello???

1. Well, the flight is so damn long, that it doesn't make sense to go for a shorter period of time!
2. I'd love to see Hisayo and Masayo again...and possibly Chiharu, altho I'm sure he's remarried by now!
3. The cherry blossoms along the Tama River!
4. Yaki imo man!
5. Bon Odori & fireworks
6. Autumn in the Tokyo area is spectacular!
7. To have lunch at a Japanese/French restaurant called Sun Valley; it was elegant, the food was delicious, and they had 1000s of different types of tea cups & saucers, and you could choose which one you'd like.
8. And of course, I'd have to visit the restaurants of the Iron Chefs!
9. okonomiyaki!
10. Ramen, made the real Japanese way.
11. So I could take a gazillion pictures.
12. To see the cool new cars that don't make it to the states for 5 years or so
13. I'd love to go to the Fertility Festival in Nagoya again...it wasn't so much fun with SFSSDMF!

1. Brighton, MA: Lived there for the 1st three years.
2. Billerica, MA: from 3-17 and then back and forth over the years.
3. Woburn, MA: 3 days when I was 14 (I ran away)
4. Lowell, MA: Moved in with my high school boyfriend when I was 17; also lived here with Sue, then Michael, by myself & with 2 separate weirdo roommates over the years.
5. Nashua, NH: With Sue. Man we had some fun!
6. Aurora, CO: With Blake, my first ex-husband, for 6 months while he was in tech school for the Air Force.
7. Bedford, MA: With Blake, til we separated and I moved to Lowell by myself & ultimately moved in with Michael.
8. Chelmsford, MA: With the second ex-husband, Lou, aka SFSSDMF, for a bit before we moved to Bedford, MA.
9. Tachikawa, Japan: Lived in a placed called American Village with Lou for 9 months til we moved on base.
10. Fussa, Japan: Lived here 3 years, at Yokota Air Base. I loved it here, Japan. Such a beautiful and interesting place!
11. Newport News, VA: Moved in with Michael's sister, Lynn & her son Jason, when Lou got orders to Patrick AFB in FL; without him being stationed at Yokota, that meant I couldn't live in base housing in Japan and while the general I worked for said he'd sponsor me for a year, the off-base house was so wicked expensive, I just couldn't afford it.
12. Yorktown, VA: Wanted some privacy and a room of my own, so moved here and stay for about a year.
13. Somerville, MA: Got homesick and moved back to MA. Stayed in Somerville for a year, then moved back to my parents' house, where I remain til this day :-)

2. The theme of our trip ;-)

3. The North American Sand Soccer Championships was going on in VA Beach; the sand was filled with soccer players (ooh la la!).

Thirteen Things I love about June!
(the list is up early for the US, but it's Thursday SOMEWHERE in the world, right?)
1. It's my birthday month; I share a birthday with Cyndi Lauper & Todd Rundgrun, Ed Bradley (60 Minutes), Jai Rodriguez (the cute lil guy from Queer Eye), Mary Lynn Rajskub (10 points to those who know who she is), Steven Page from BNL, Dan Brown (he wrote The Da Vinci Code), and Meryl Streep, to name a few.
2. The Summer solstice, aka the longest day of summer, yippee! (unless you're in the southern hemisphere, then it's December lol)
3. When I was in elementary, then high school (dudes, I'm so old there WAS no middle school at the time) June was freedom, freedom, glorious freedom from school!
4. Cookout time!
5. I visited England and Scotland for the first time in June and LOVED it.
6. It was the month I got my favorite job (working for an AF general when I lived in Japan)
7. My friend, Gaylen, her daughter, Reva (she was about 7 at the time) and I took a trip to Okinawa in June 1994. To me it was sooooo hot; to Gaylen, born and raised in Louisiana, it wasn't nothin'!
8. Speaking of Okinawa, it was the first time I ever saw habu sake; here, let me share with you a picture of this tasty treat (if you're squeamish, don't look!) (I WARNED you!!!)
9. I also visited South Korea for a week in June of 1995; I
10. June is National Rose Month, and who doesn't love roses!
11. Did you know that no other month begins on the same day of the week as June? I like the fact that June is different!
12. The birthstone for June is the pearl, Alexandrite, or moonstone; they are all beautiful!
13. My friend Betsy got married in June!

Betsy and her bridal party
(yes, I'm in the picture. I'm the first one sitting, it kinda looks like Betsy's foot is kicking my head)

Thirteen Things about Memorial Day
1. Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day.
2. It's a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation's service.
3. Memorial Day was officially proclaimed on 5 May 1868 by General John Logan, national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic and was first observed on 30 May 1868, when flowers were placed on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery
4. The first state to officially recognize the holiday was New York in 1873 (Waterloo NY was officially declared the birthplace of Memorial Day by President Lyndon Johnson in May 1966, it's difficult to prove conclusively the origins.)
5. By 1890 it was recognized by all of the northern states. The South refused to acknowledge the day, honoring their dead on separate days until after World War I (when the holiday changed from honoring just those who died fighting in the Civil War to honoring Americans who died fighting in any war).
6. It is now celebrated in almost every State on the last Monday in May, though several southern states have an additional separate day for honoring the Confederate war dead: 1/19 in Texas, 4/26 in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Mississippi; 5/10 in South Carolina; and 6/3 (Jefferson Davis' birthday) in Louisiana and Tennessee.
7. On the Thursday before Memorial Day, the 1,200 soldiers of the 3d U.S. Infantry place small American flags at each of the more than 260,000 gravestones at Arlington National Cemetery. They patrol 24 hours a day during the weekend to ensure that each flag remains standing.
8. Beginning in 1998, on the Saturday before the observed day for Memorial Day, the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts place a candle at each of approximately 15,300 grave sites of soldiers buried at Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park.
9. To help re-educate and remind Americans of the true meaning of Memorial Day, the "National Moment of Remembrance" resolution was passed in December 2000; this asks that at 3 p.m. local time, for all Americans to voluntarily and informally observe in their own way a moment of remembrance and respect, pausing from whatever they are doing for a moment of silence or listening to "Taps."
10. A woman named Moina Michael conceived of the idea to wear red poppies on Memorial day in honor of those who died; the money went to benefit servicemen in need.
11. She also wrote a poem: We cherish too, the Poppy red/That grows on fields where valor led,/It seems to signal to the skies/That blood of heroes never dies.
12. Many feel that when Congress made the day into a three-day weekend in with the National Holiday Act of 1971, it made it all the easier for people to be distracted from the spirit and meaning of the day. As the VFW stated in its 2002 Memorial Day address: "Changing the date merely to create three-day weekends has undermined the very meaning of the day. No doubt, this has contributed greatly to the general public's nonchalant observance of Memorial Day."
13. When I was a child, I looked forward to the parade on Memorial Day; I even marched in it a few times.

Thirteen Things that are on my mind lately
1. daisies: I'm not sure why, maybe because my secret blogger liked them and I tried to design her gifts around them.
2. photography: what lenses should I have, what flash should I buy (think I figured that out today), what lighting setup should I have, etc., etc., on and on and on. If anyone would care to mentor me, please do!
3. mortality. D'uh.
4. Now that it's stopped raining, the bees are back. I HATE the bees!
5. martinis!
6. Friendship.
7. Invasion: Why wasn't it renewed? Whhhhhhhhhhhhhhyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy???
8. Seeing the girls this weekend, i.e., back to NY (upstate, but not as far upstate as last time lol)
9. Office politics. Oh wait, that comes under work, doesn't it...oh well, sue me...or don't, mmmkay?
10. Why do some women have a need to criticize other women in order to make themselves feel better? I've critisized to be snarky or funny...but not to make myself feel better.
11. I learned something today that partially solves something I've been wondering about for awhile (sorry to be so obtuse, but I'm writing a post on this in the near future).
12. I have a Leo friend that I'm worried about and I found out today that this can be a tough time for her: "everyone with Leo Sun, Leo Ascendant/Rising Sign, Leo Moon or a strong Leo signature in their chart is really being being put to the test regarding their relationships. It is their chance to change and grow ... OR to refuse to take on the growth lessons they need and stay stuck or get left behind or cut out anyone and anything that reminds them of the lesson they don't really want to deal with."
13. When will I get to visit Paris, Hawaii, Scotland and most of all Japan, again?

Thirteen Things about fondofsnape's song memories
1. Stay - Lisa Loeb: I was driving home for lunch from work when I lived in Japan. Stay came on the radio, and I instantly fell in love with it...I might even have cried a bit...maybe
2. You're Beautiful - James Blunt: I don't much listen to the radio anymore, so I don't really hear many new songs. This one I heard first on Saturday Night Live when James Blunt was a guest...and he totally mesmerized me!
3. Stomp - Kirk Franklin & God's Property: My boyfriend at the time was sitting in the living room watching BET and asked me to come in to see this video cause he thought I'd like it...and I did!
4. The Show - Doug E Fresh: Another boyfriend introduced me to this song back in the 80s; we were in his car, driving back to his place when it came on, and believe me, in Boston, that's a freakin' miracle, cause back then rap wasn't so popular. I have another memory of this song; my friend Julie and I were at Niagra Falls, Canada side, walking down the street, rapping the whole song, much to the amazement of our friends Ender & Joli who were, truth to tell, probably a bit embarrassed!
5. Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp (live) - Led Zeppelin: I was listening to the 3 CD pack that came out in what...2002? Thought this song sounded pretty cool, and LOVED at the end of the song when Robert Plant called his dog Strider :-)
6. Fruitcakes / Vampires, Mummies & The Holy Ghost / Delaney Talks To Statues - Jimmy Buffett: Drinkin' tequila, my friend sick as a dog, having to drive around the flightline to sober her up before she went home; also reminds me of riding my bike around the flightline, a weird thing to do at Yokota AB cause of the huge planes taking off and landing right freakin' next to you!
7. American Girl - Tom Petty: Again, when I lived in Japan, I was standing on my balcony (6 floors up) watching the traffic go by and that song came on. Man, I was hit with a huge wave of homesickness!
8. Prayer For The Dying - Seal: I HATED hated hated Seal because my fondoftorturing ex-husband listened to Seal's song, Crazy, every freaking day, on the way to work, on the way home, when we went out...well, looking back, the title of the song was at least fitting. But anyway, I was in the living room, listening to the Armed Forces radio, and emailing a friend when that song came on...and I cried. But then when I found out it was Seal, I laughed! I could tell you stories about almost all the songs on the CD and what memories I have of them...but I'll share just one other. I was shopping in some department store with my boyfriend at the time, and the song Newborn Friend came on...he wrapped his arms around me and we danced right there...oblivious to everyone. It was fun :-)
9. War Pigs - Black Sabbath: My brother used to BLAST this mfing album (called Paranoid) over and over and over and this particular song just grated on me...I guess from the sirens ...omg I HATED Ozzy Osbourne...til I saw his reality show. Strange man...but interesting.
10. Baby Got Back - Sir Mixalot: Driving through Norfolk VA on the way to VA Beach and I laughed and loved it immediately. Also, it reminds me of my old office mate, Diana. One day I was reading an email or something and said Oh My God; Diana immediately said Becky, look at her butt and I cracked up. We've been friends ever since ;-)
11. Mr. Dabolina - Del tha Funkee Homosapien: Heard this on the radio driving over a bridge in Boston...my ex-husband and I loved it, one of the few things we agreed on.
12. Deacon Blues - Steely Dan: Reminds me of high school, but also of driving to Vermont to visit a friend.
13. Little Red Corvette - Prince: One day, my best friend in Japan and I were driving around, just checking out the local area near the base, and her daughter (who was 7 or 8 at the time) was with us, sitting in the back seat. This song came on, and after a bit, from the back seat, we hear her daughter singing along to it...(I guess I must be dumb / ’cuz u had a pocket full of horses / Trojan and some of them used) and we looked at each other, horrified (course she had NO idea what she was singing, but still). Turned that song off real fast under the pretext of stopping at some Japanese store. Hey...at least it wasn't Head or Erotic City heh heh heh.

Thirteen Things about foods Fondofsnape could never get sick of!
1. Kraft Mac & Cheese - been eating this since ... 1972 and have never gotten sick of it!
2. Okonomiyaki - a kind of a Japanese pancake, although it's not anything like an American pancake, savory instead of sweet, it traditionally has pork or seafood & cabbage mixed with the batter and topped with mayo and a kind of worcestershire-tasting sauce...I haven't had really good okonomiyaki since Japan!
3. salt & vinegar chips - chips are my downfall, and these are my fav...altho I've recently discovered Cape Cod Sea Salt & Cracked Pepper chips...oh my good god!!!
4. pizza - preferably with mushrooms, yummy yummy mushrooms!
5. clementines - they're only here for a short while, and I can eat them like candy!
6. pineapples - especially while in Hawaii!
7. angel food cake - no frosting...just the cake. Yum!
8. chirashi - cause it incorporates most of my favorite types of sashimi!
9. Popeye's chicken wif a biscuit - can't get that around heah!
10. pulled pork, NC style - with coleslaw on top...heaven!
