Tori tagged me with this book meme recently; can't turn down a fellow New Englandah, now can I!
Here goes:
My reading: It has tapered off drastically these last few years. There was a time I would go through 3 books in a weekend, reading at the beach, in the backyard, wherever I found myself. Not so anymore. I'm not sure why! Let's blame the internet...in fact, I'd be reading The Ghost At The Table by Suzanne Berne right now if I wasn't doing this meme! Ahhhh, distractions ;-)
Total number of books owned: I have two boxes of books in storage, and after doing a quick check of the bookshelves here, 238...so probably close to 300, maybe 350.
Last book bought: Eclipse (the third of the Twilight series) by Stephanie Meyer.
Last book read: Eclipse. I was so glad I read about this series on Carl's blog; they're for young adults (as is the Harry Potter series). The main characters are Bella, a human teen; her new boyfriend, Edward, a gorgeous vampire (his equally gorgeous "family" also plays a prominent role in the books) and Jacob Black, Bella's friend from childhood, who happens to become a werewolf. I have to say the stories totally sucked me in and made me care about the characters! Even when you want to roll your eyes and say, get a GRIP, Bella, you still can't stop reading!
Five meaningful books:
- In HIs Own Write, by John Lennon. I got this when I was a kid, under 12...and loved it! DIdn't understand half of it, and looking at it now...um...OMG LOL!
- The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien: Oh, I fell in love with this story when I was 14. My friend Pat and I had hitchhiked to a bookstore in the next town over, and I was just browsing the titles. I already had a Richard Brautigan in hand when I noticed The Hobbit. PIcked it up, read a few pages...and I was HOOKED I remember seeing the date it was first published (9/21/37) and asking my mother if she'd ever read it when she was young; she said it wasn't her cup of tea.
- The Stand, by Stephen King: I sat on the porch and read it cover to cover when it first came out in 1978. I loved the story, good against evil (maybe this was why I never wanted to go to Vegas LOL) . What a disappointment the movie was!
- Hokkaido Highway Blues by Will Ferguson: I read this a couple years after coming back from Japan, and can remember nodding my head and smiling at so many different points in the story. The premise? Simple; he was going to hitchhike from one end of Japan to the other, following the cherry blossoms :-)
- Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince by J.K. Rowling: My favorite of the Harry Potter books, mainly because it was all about Snape. What an amazing character he was!
Thanks, Tori, that was fun!
I had no idea my blog friend, Lisa hosted Manic Monday! If I can revert to pirate talk for a mo'...well, blow me down and shiver me timbers!
Here we go:
You've won $100,000 -- but have to give it all away. To which charity or institution would you donate it? I'd donate it to Buddy Dog in Sudbury, MA...it's a no kill shelter, which means they need lots of dog and cat food. Plus it's where I got my dog, Max, so I think of them with fondness.

Max, pretending to be vicious!
What do you think is the most soothing sound? Without a doubt, rain. One of my favorite places to be during a rain storm is in my bed, curled up with a good book and a warm blanket.
Does time heal all wounds? Physical wounds, yes. Emotional wounds...well, as time passes, the ache gets a bit less, but the wound, unfortunately, never completely goes away.

Time healed this (self-inflicted) wound...
Great questions, Lisa!
Dog's Eye View tagged me awhile ago for a meme created by Dancin' Fool; since I'm in the mood for a meme (c'mon, you know you sang along with that), here it is!
01. If you could have super powers what would they be and what would you do with them? (Please feel free to be selfish, you do not have to save the world!).
Hmmm...I'd love the ability to fly! Imagine just being able to take off and soar, oh man!
02. Were you to find yourself stranded on an island with a CD player...it could happen...what would your top 10 bloggers island discs be?
Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, the Harry Potter audio CDs, LOTR audio CDs, maybe some old Cat Stevens, T. Rex...
03. If you were a smell what would it be?
Something spicy, incense-y, sweet
04. What bird would you most like to be?
An owl; they're night birds, quiet mostly, and spectacular looking!
05. If you were a bird who's head would you poo on?
Just bushes & shrubs ;-)
06. Are there any foods that your body craves?
Funny you should ask...lately it's been green peppers and I don't even really like them! I was just thinking about that last night when I made American Chop Suey.
07. What's your favourite time of year?
Autumn, without a doubt. The foliage, the pumpkins & apples, the crisp air, just a hint of coldness coming around the corner and best of all, I can finally take the dogs to the beach again to romp and run and dig in the sand!
08. What's your favourite time of day?
I think it's late at night...no distractions, it's quiet, people are sleeping...
09. If a rest is as good as a change which would you choose?
A change...I need one badly.
10. If you could have a dinner party and invite any 5 people from the past or present who would they be? (Living or deceased.)
Mom, Nana, Grandma, Michele & Sue (friends of mine who've drifted away)
Anyone want to play, consider themselves tagged :-)

![]() You love life - new adventures, new people, new ideas. [true] |
What do you all think of this? Sound like me, doesn't sound like me?
Frigga (NO idea what her name is about, you'll have to ask her!) asked me the following questions, which I answered :-) Yes, I've done it before, but damn it, I like questions!
1. If you could play any character in the Harry Potter movies, who would you be and why?
That's easy: I'd be Luna. We're alot alike, she and I :-) (well, mentally, not physically, doh) I admire her way of letting insults and slights roll off her back, and concentrating on the things she likes.
2. What's your favorite subject to photograph and why?
Nature, without a doubt. I love to photograph clouds, flowers, mushrooms, the ocean. In fact...I think most of my photography is of those types of things!
3. Why do you blog?
Why indeed? One reason, and one reason only: cause it's fun!
4. You once mentioned you stopped going to church at 13 - do you consider yourself religous or spiritual, or atheiest or agnostic?
It's something I struggle with, especially as I get older. I'd say I'm spiritual, more than anything else. Walking through the woods with the dogs, I feel at peace, more so than in any church. Church, for me, has always been a place filled with judgments and gossip...I try to avoid those things, although I'm not always successful.
5. If you could choose to live in any reality (book, movie or different era in time) which would you choose?
Oh, man, I'd TOTALLY be a hobbit! I'd snag Bilbo, and live with him in Bag End, eating and drinking and reveling in nature. Definitely! "We have some cold chicken and pickles... Here's some cheese here- oh no it won't do. There we got raspberry jam and apple tart... Not much for afterlunch - oh no! We're all right. I have some cake." - Bilbo Baggins
Okay, now for the rules directions (I dislike rules):

19. Have you gained weight since then? Hell yes, unfortunately. I weighed 125 in high school and thought I was fat then ... sigh...

Here goes!
4 things that should go into Room 101 and be removed from the face of the earth.
* People who annoy me (no, wait, there would be no one left) um...how about gum snappers, people who talk during a movie and people who talk loudly on their cell phones while in public places?
* big hairy spiders
* cancer (stickin' with Jenn's answer)
* cars with really pumpin' loud bass
3 things people do that make you want to shake them violently
* rudeness
* treat animals cruelly
* Interrupt other people conversations (again, stickin' with Jenn's answer)
2 things you find yourself moaning about
* Being overweight
* Not being attractive
1 thing the above answers tell you about yourself
* I have low self-esteem (shocking, I KNOW!)
5 people who will be annoyed you tagged them
* MaryEllen
* Laura de (who NEVER rises to these challenges)
* Carmen
* Fleur-de-Lisa
* MissMeliss

Three people nominated me for Rockin' Girl Blogger...and it really made me feel good!

Nancy is a relatively new read to me, but I enjoy her blog very much! She also complimented my photography...that just makes me smile. She posted the most amazing quote on her blog this week, which I'll share with you:
"We cannot become what we need to be by remaining what we are."
- Max Dupree
Thanks, Nancy!
Colleen: She likes my blog name! She also shares my love of Snape and compliments me on my photography...while she's an amazing writer! I was bound and determined NOT to like her books cause she writes about vampire hunters...and you know how I like those vampires! But once I picked her first vampire book up, I could NOT put it down. She's GREAT and thank you, Colleen for saying such nice things about me :-)
leslie has the most beautiful cat in her header; her blog is gorgeous! She's very artistic, and also shares my love of Harry Potter; she was sorted into Ravenclaw, brilliant girl! Thanks, Leslie!
I'm nominating these rockin' chicks:
Robin: We share a love of collecting cookbooks and she posts yummy recipes on her blog! To me, that rocks!
Melissa: We share a love of BPAL and Snape; she's a brave, smart person who's extremely interesting as well as interested.
Lisa: This chick has a dry sense of humor that I just adore. I owe her a book, damn it! She's an awesome photographer and isn't afraid to get down and dirty to get the picture she wants.
Lea: Lea has two kids, is a single mom and just lost her job...but you know what? I have a feeling something FANTASTIC is going to crop up for her! Oh, and she's a fellow Snape-aholic :-)
Julie: The ULTIMATE rockin' girl; she took up guitar after falling in love with Zep. She misses my Percy background! We share a love of Zep, books and sarcastic humor.
And...everyone else on my google reader! Cause if I didn't think you were all rockin' chicks, you wouldn't be there!
Have a great weekend!
Seen at Krista's
1. Go to the Billboard #1 Hits listings (scroll down and you’ll see them separated by decades on the left in the sidebar)
2. Pick the year you turned 18 [um...cause I'm a rule breaker, I'm changing it up a little...decided to pick a year that was a bit more "eventful" than just turning 18, if y'all know what I mean]
3. Get yourself nostalgic over the songs of the year
4. Pick 5 songs and write something about how these songs affected you
5. Pass it on to 5 more friends
After looking at these songs, it was HARD to choose just five...apparently, 1972 was an AWESOME year for music! There was only one song I didn't care for *cough* Neil Diamond *cough*, so I screwed up the rules even more and told a story using the names and/or lyrics of the songs. Sue me!
Brand New Key - Melanie: Oh, I LOVED this song!
I rode my bicycle past your window last night
I roller-skated to your door at daylight
It almost seems like you're avoiding me
I'm okay alone, but you got something I need
Well, I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key
I think that we should get together
And try them out to see
I been looking around awhile
You got something for me
Oh, I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key
She had a high pitched, girlish voice, very sing-songy. This was PRE the event.
American Pie - Don McLean: This song reminds me of when my parents made me go to group therapy...I met this guy Dave there...another rebellious kid (like me) who was amazing artistic. He drew and was a potter, interesting dude! We hung out alot in Lowell (he was from Dracut).
Now starts the theme:
Let's Stay Together - Al Green: That's what I said...didn't happen, tho, for one very important reason!
Without You - Nilsson: I'd've retained it awhile longer, maybe.
Heart of Gold - Neil Young: No heart of gold, this one.
A Horse With No Name - America: No "horse" either.
The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face - Roberta Flack: Loved this song and made out to it many a time
Oh Girl - Chi-Lites: What he said
I'll Take You There - The Staple Singers: He tried to!
The Candy Man - Sammy Davis, Jr.: SNORT *not literally*! Yeah, he was the Candy Man, aight.
Song Sung Blue - Neil Diamond (GAK!)
Lean on Me - Bill Withers: I did, for a bit
Alone Again (Naturally) - Gilbert O' Sullivan: But then this happened
Brandy (You're A Fine Girl) - Looking Glass: Goofy song, reminds me of Salisbury, possible scene of the crime.
Alone Again (Naturally) - Gilbert O'Sullivan: So good it repeated!
Black and White - Three Dog Night: Not til 1986, ya'll.
Baby, Don't Get Hooked On Me - Mac Davis: Yeah, now that could've been his theme song!
Ben - Michael Jackson: Dude was kind of a rat...and I don't mean MJ!
My Ding-A-Ling - Chuck Berry: This is one of the dirtiest songs EVER! I loved it! My friend Pat and I went to see Chuck Berry at the Boston Garden in 1972...amazing, just amazing! And appropriate for my "theme"
I Can See Clearly Now - Johnny Nash: Yup, I was shocked when I saw clearly and that was the end of that!
Papa Was a Rollin' Stone - The Temptations: Ha, yeah he was.
I Am Woman - Helen Reddy: LOL this song just reminds me of my cousin!
Me and Mrs. Jones - Billy Paul: Still love this song, and it was entirely apropos to my story.
THE END!
Five of you please do this, c'mon, it's my birthday week!
Saw this over at Dawn's:

The 'kepuh' is sacred to Durga." [wouldn't that make a good picture???]
Owl is my bird; bull is my animal.
I volunteered to be asked five questions by Michele, because obviously I'm crazy about questions! Sorry it took so long, Michele, I know you asked me more than two + weeks ago!
1. You and I are going to Japan together. You are only allowed to show me five places/things. What do you pick? First of all, let's say we'd going in fall:
- a. We'd try to climb Mt. Fuji!
- b. We'd go to Shinjuku, where there are just so many things to see and do!
- c. We'd visit the castle that has "nightingale" floors; when you walk on the floors they make bird sounds, which was used to stop enemies.
- d. We'd climb Tokyo Tower, just a tiny bit taller (deliberately) than the Eiffel Tower, for a magnificent view of Tokyo.
- e. Finally, I'd bring you to one of the Iron Chef restaurants for a meal you'd never forget!
2. What is your favorite childhood memory? Summertimes with my cousins down the Cape (Cape Cod to you folks not from around here)!
3. Hopefully I will make it up to Boston sometime this spring/summer. Where will you suggest we meet up? At your hotel, so I can drag you all around Boston! Of course, I'd have to bring you to Newburyport, too, cause it's my favorite place in MA and I like to share :-)
4. What are you most looking forward to in Vegas? 1) Seeing all my friends; 2) Seeing the Cirque du Soleil show, Love!
5. What do you think is your best quality? My ability to never be bored.

No More!!!
Robin tagged me, and it's a lazy Sunday, so here goes!
* Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
* People who are tagged need to write their own blog entry about their eight things and post these rules.
* At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.
* Don't forget to leave them a comment telling them they're tagged, and to read your blog.
Okay, enough rules. Here goes...
1) Planted some herbs today, two basil, one rosemary. Also a petunia and another flower that I can't remember the name of! Here's a pic:

What's it called, anyone know?
2) I have to be in the mood to clean. I'm not often in the mood. When I AM in the mood, no one can be home. Consequently, the house doesn't get cleaned very often :(
3) My new fav sandwich is rosemary ham with a slice of provolone cheese. Haven't figured out the best condiment for it yet, tho...mustard seems too strong ... I want to taste the rosemary!
4) Why am I suddenly so addicted to CSI?
5) A&W rootbeer, diet, with LOTS of ice is my favorite soda!
6) When I'm sitting at a table or bar with place settings, I'll mess around with them until they're straight and in the right place. I don't HAVE to...it's just something to do with my hands, like doodling or something LOL!
7) I'm reading a book called Finn: A Novel by Jon Clinch. It's about Huckleberry Finn's father, who was NOT a nice man at all...and it's a very interesting read!
8) We just got a new lawn mower and I went and mowed the lawn. It looks and smells so good!
Eight of you are tagged! I mean it!
Happy Mother's Day :)
Before I get into this...please go visit my friend Megan and wish her a hearty congratulations...SHE GOT ENGAGED! That's the news I couldn't tell earlier...I'm so happy for her! And her ring is just gorgeous :-) SQUEEEEEeee!!!
Anyway, once again, I volunteered to be asked five questions, this time by Colleen, because I thought her questions would be quite interesting...I wasn't wrong!
1. What's the best part and worst part of being a Bostonian? The best part of being a Bostonian is...just being a Bostonian!
2. If you could go back to high school and know what you know now how would you be different? I'd run that damn school! Oh, and I'd join the photography club!
3. You and I are going to spend the day in Japan. Where would you take me? What would we do? What would we eat? First, I'd take you to Sapporo Ramen in Fussa, where they make the best ramen ever. Then, we'd walk along the banks of the Tama River, course it'd be during cherry blossom time and we'd admire the gorgeous blossoms. I'd take you into Seiyu, which is a grocery store on the first floor, and a department store on the other 3 floors. I'd show you the different foods, the uniquely Japanese things. Then we'd hop on a train to Ginza, and just walk around taking in the sights. Afterwards, I'd arrange for us to go visit my friend Hisayo and enjoy some Japanese hospitality.
4. What song best describes your life philosophy and why? Over The Hills and Far Away, by Led Zeppelin:
Many have I loved - Many times been bitten
Many times I've gazed along the open road.
Many times I've lied - Many times I've listened
Many times I've wondered how much there is to know.
5. You've just won the lottery, a million dollars. How would your life change if you didn't have to work? What would you do with your money? Haysus, I would quit my job SO FAST my head would spin. I'd give money to my family and friends, then I'd invest...And after that I'd hop on a plane and visit Gaylen and Hisayo and Masayo and Mich (NM, Japan, Honolulu). I'd buy a house in New England, and one in Japan, and they'd both have shiba proof fenced in yards.

5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.
I volunteered to be asked five questions by Krista, who is about the only one who could get me to answer five more! She had some damn good questions, y'all!
1. Out of all the make believe places in your favorite movies, which one would you choose to live in and why. The Shire, it's so peaceful and green and people (ok, well, hobbits) just have fun there!
2. Vampire, Pirate, Sorcerer. Which one is the hottest and why. Well, let's just remove Pirate from that list, cause as Elizabeth Swann said: "...Except for a sense of honor and decency and a moral center. And personal hygiene." It's not the lack of a sense of honor and decency and a moral center that bothers me, of course, it would be the personal hygiene bit ;-0 And let's remove the Sorcerer, because...well...when I think of a sorcerer, I think of Saruman, and he wasn't hot in the least. So...that leaves Vampire...which OMG I think are SO damn hot!!!
3. If you could bring one mythical creature to life, what would it be. I think a phoenix...they're so beautiful, but my inner 10 year old says a unicorn :-)
4. What is your favorite thing to cook? That's a tough one...I love to cook just about anything! There's something satisfying about using the dutch oven when I cook, though, so I'll say ... a nice coq au vin.
5. If you could produce and direct your own movie, what would is be about? It would be about the story of my life...which wasn't always quite so..."tame" as it is now LOL!
Thanks, Krista, that was fun!
Thanks for the great questions, Heather!

Amy tagged me, and I'm not one to back down from a tag ;-)
Each player starts with 7 random facts/habits about themselves. People who are tagged need to blog about their seven things and post the rules as well. At the end of your post, choose 7 people to tag and list their names. Don't forget to leave them a comment telling them that they have been tagged and to read your blog! OK, here goes...
1) I love a peanut butter sandwich for breakfast with a cup of coffee! The peanut butter must be spread on half of the slice of bread, then the slice is folded over. Sometimes I'll spread some butter on first. Yum!
2) I have to be in the mood to clean. I'm not often in the mood. When I AM in the mood, no one can be home. Consequently, the house doesn't get cleaned very often :(
3) Sandwiches: Mayo on roast beef, mustard on ham. Always!
4) Lately, I've been having a very hard time getting out of bed. Someone told me yesterday that I didn't look happy. I feel ... ok? But I thought about it last night, and I don't think I've been happy for awhile. Hmmm...
7) I'm reading a book called Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers, by Mary Roach. It's DAMN good!
Tag, YOU'RE it!
I volunteered to be asked still another five questions by Michelle, who is one of my most favorite photography models!
1. If you could live anywhere in the world other than the US or Japan; where would it be and why? I think it would be France...maybe not Paris, but somewhere quiet, out in the country. The reason I pick France and not Scotland or Hawaii is the weather, Scotland being too cold and Hawaii being too sunny (if there is such a thing!). The reason I pick France is the history, the sights, the food! And Julia loved it there :-)
2. What are three things you hope to accomplish in the next 3-5 years? Hmmm...pay off my debt, buy a home, spend some time in Japan, and live to see all the Harry Potter books be made into movies.
3. Your house is on fire (don't worry you have plenty of insurance and your pets and family members and camera are safe); what other three items do you take with you – you have to be able to carry them out. Ooooh, that's a tough one! 1) all the photo albums, 2) as many of my Japanese things as I could carry and 3) the hard drive...it's got all my pics on it!
4. You have to give up one of the following for a year which do you pick: Internet, TV or books (remember this means no HP in July!) Hmmm...another tough one...I'd have to go with TV...or maybe the internet...no, tv, damn you pointing out HP!
5. What are your thoughts on the whole Anna Nicole Smith story? Clearly...fame isn't everything [10 points to anyone who knows who that quote is from]. I think the whole thing is quite sad.

2. I will respond by emailing you five questions. I get to pick the questions.

5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.
Also, I wanted to share my favorite photos from this weekend with you :-)
I volunteered to be asked five questions by Heather, who is certainly the first doctor-to-be to ever ask me questions such as these!
1. You're starting a second career as a pirate, what's your pirate name? Mrs. Captain Jack Sparrow :-)
2. What's your ship's name? Does it have any special amenities? You're a modern pirate after all! When the good Captain and I married, I told him we'd have to have the Black Pearl completely redone. He reluctantly agreed, and we now have a jacuzzi, a hot tub, a bedroom with a soft and comfortable, plush round bed, covered with layers of different colored silk, 3 bathrooms, one in the front of the ship, one in the back and one in the middle (when I gotta go...I gotta go!), which none of the crew are allowed in, btw, dirty heathens, and a comfortable reading room where I can go to relax and spend some time alone...altho with Jack...teeheehee, THAT'S not often, if you get my drift ;-)
3. You've just defeated your first foe, what kind of villain was he/she/it? Oh, my it was the scariest thing I've ever seen! It was a woman, and she just wouldn't stop TALKING! Almost made me want to walk the plank!
4. You just acquired the compass that points to your hearts desire - what is the compass pointing to? Why, Captain Jack Sparrow, of course :-)
5. What sea do you rule over? Um...all of them, silly girl!
Thanks for the great questions, Heather!

I volunteered to be asked five questions by Finn, who is possibly related to Huck ;-)
1. What is your favorite self-taken photograph? That's a tough one! I don't think I have one favorite...here are a quickly put together bunch of favs :)

2. Why did you move to Japan and why did you move back? I moved to Japan because I married a guy in the Air Force, and he got stationed there. One of the best things that ever happened to me (the move, NOT the marriage). I moved back because his tour there was up, and although the general I worked for had offered to sponsor me for a year, it was too expensive for me to live on the Japanese economy.
3. You have an entire day to yourself, with no responsibilities and no work. Money is not an object. What do you do? Just a day? My first inclination would be to fly somewhere like Japan or Paris or Hawaii, but that would eat up too much time; I think I'd fly to New Mexico to visit my friend Gaylen. I miss her!
4. Are you quick to forgive or do you hold grudges? I'm not quick to hold a grudge...but I've been known to hold one or two in my life...I'm, by nature, a forgiving person, but sometimes it's hard for me to forget.
5. What is your Zodiac sign and do you think the description fits you? I'm Cancer the Crab...the moody mother hen of the zodiac. Read below, and tell me if you think it fits me:
The Sun awakened Cancer the Crab, a feminine sign in the zodiac on your birthday. The Sun in astrology stands for your inner nature, your essential character. The fourth sign of the Zodiac, Cancer is ruled by the restless Moon. A cardinal (creative and original) sign, Cancer governs home life, matters to do with women (especially the mother), as well as sensitivity and emotional intensity. It is a water sign, so Cancerian people are emotionally intense and deeper than they appear on the surface, while quite sensitive and understanding once you get through that tough exterior.
The Sun, ruler of our inner nature, is somewhat dimmed in Cancer, the home of the Moon. Creative and romantic, with a strong love of home, family and tradition, you are a good communicator and a strong provider. Your deep sensitivity presents you with valuable and illuminating intuitions, especially regarding those you care for.
Paradoxically combining a love of travel with a deep need for security, you surround yourself with sentimental objects from the past, including souvenirs, hand-me-downs and keepsakes. Cancerians are remarkably good at accumulating things; indeed, you can be unwilling to throw anything out, even relationships that have passed their use-by date. [hahaha that would be me!!!]
Cancer is also good with money and generally takes a long-term view. The main thing to remember is not to let the powerful, turbulent emotions of the moment crowd out your normally rational judgement. Your intuitions are reliable and should be trusted; you may even have natural psychic powers, which may be developed, given the right circumstances.
The emblem for Cancer is the Crab, a creature with a very hard shell which protects a soft interior. The crab walks sideways, which is how the Cancerian skirts around a problem until forced to take it on with gritty determination and a creative flair. The crab's large claws hang on to its possessions for dear life, just as the Cancerian collects things to beautify the environment and bravely defends the home turf.
Cancerians make good business people, combining artistry, originality and drive with an understanding of financial matters, marketing and the needs of the public. You can trust your intuitions, but you do need to generate a faith in yourself which will not be dampened by gloom or depression over what, in retrospect, may appear to be relatively insignificant problems. You have the natural ability to be diplomatic and to speak out when necessary or keep your mouth shut. Home and family ties will be significant in your life and developing a secure, comfortable home environment will be a boon to your state of mind, irrespective of your marital state.

As a reward for putting up with yet another meme from me, here's a picture:
Awhile back, Carmen gave me the "Thinking Blogger" award; this is why she awarded it to me: "She has this Friday fill-in post, and she has "What is it Wednesdays" - it sometimes hurts my brain to visit, but I always manage to participate. :)" Many thanks to Carmen for thinking of me, I do believe this is the first time I've won an award!
In all fairness, though, I didn't start the Friday Fill-Ins. That would be Megan, who came up with the idea originally, but is a bit busy these days!
Without further ado, and without favoritism of any sort, these are the first five bloggers who popped into my mind as having posts that quite often make me think:
1. Rampant Bicycle: This girl has interesting posts and even more interesting links! It's an almost daily adventure, you never know what you're going to see next!
2. DebR, of Red Shoes Rambling: She's artistic, inspiring and an awesome writer...and I owe her some pictures!
3. Gina, whose blog is called atypical female: She's a first rate photographer, and you all have her to thank for getting me back into photography! She doesn't post that often, but when she does...wow!
4. Carl, whose blog is called Stainless Steel Droppings: This guy is amazing! The passionate, amazing reviews he writes about books or movies or art he loves shows the depth of his feelings. He has introduced me to some books, movies and art that I otherwise might've missed. Thanks, Carl!
5. MissMeliss: This chick is a fantastic writer! She has written the best fanfic by far about Professor Snape (which really makes me think about stuff that maybe I shouldn't!), she shares my love of BPAL and she's a comedian!
Congratulations, you won a
!
Should you choose to participate, please make sure you pass this list of rules to the blogs you are tagging.
The participation rules are simple:
1. If, and only if, you get tagged, write a post with links to 5 blogs that make you think,
2. Link to this post so that people can easily find the exact origin of the meme,
3. Optional: Proudly display the 'Thinking Blogger Award' with a link to the post that you wrote (here is an alternative silver version if gold doesn't fit your blog).
Seen at DebR's blog:
What curse words do you use the most? Hmmm...when I'm mildly pissed, it'd be Crikey...when I'm really pissed, all bets are off. For example, my second ex-husband's nickname is SFSSDMF; Short Fat Snoring Small D!cked Mother F*er. Well deserved, too :-) You might ask why I married him...I ask that of myself sometimes.
Do you own an i-pod? Um...*embarrassed* three
What time is your alarm clock set to? I don't use one right now, but I'd really like this one. Also, I'm leaving Deb's answer, as it applies to me, too:
It isn't. I usually just wake up when I wake up. If I need to get up at a certain time, I'm pretty good about just reminding myself of it before I go to bed and waking up then, although if I need to be someplace at a certain time (like an appointment, or catching a plane or something), I'll set the alarm on those days just to be sure. But 9 times out of 10 I'll wake up a couple of minutes before it goes off.
Would you rather take the picture or be in the picture? I'd MUCH rather take the picture; I don't photograph well.
What was the last movie you watched? "Pan's Labyrinth"; awesome, sad, beautiful!
What cd is currently in your player? Bunch of Zeppelin tunes from my iTunes
Do you prefer regular or chocolate milk? I don't like the taste of milk here, but if I had to choose, it'd be chocolate (better yet, coffee milk!)
Has anyone told you a secret this week? Ohhh, yes, but I can't tell who or what!
When was the last time you had Starcrack Starbucks? Friday night, before seeing "Music and Lyrics", the new Hugh Grant/Drew Barrymore movie; love the cinnamon dolce latte, fat free, sugar free
Can you whistle? Yup, but not as well as I could pre-braces
What are you looking forward to? The last [sob] Harry Potter book; the 5th Harry Potter movie; the last POTC movie; my birthday celebration in Vegas in June, Krista's wedding, Diana's wedding, Aislinn's wedding, especially if it's in St. Thomas ;-)

Do you sleep on your side/back/stomach? I don't know...I'm asleep!
Do you watch the news? No! I hate tv news, it's all sensationalized for ratings ... crap.
How did you get one of your scars? I have a scar on my left knee that I got one summer cause I kept falling on it...in gravel. I swear there's still gravel imbedded in there! And that's just a scar on the outside...I got a few inside, too ;-)
The end! Phew, huh? If you want to answer these questions too, have at it, I say!
Her royal highness, the Princess Blonder, asked me to post this! I think I've done it before, but what the heck!

Seen at Carl's who saw it a Quixotic's and so on and so on. As I love both a good meme and books, this looked to be right up my alley.
Science Fiction, Fantasy or Horror? I love Horror! But...I also love SF/Fantasy, as evidenced by LOTR & the Harry Potter series. Do you consider those SF as well as Fantasy?
Hardback or Trade Paperback or Mass Market Paperback? I prefer Trade Paperbacks for reading...easier to carry around.
Heinlein or Asimov? Heinlein has always been a favorite of mine, since reading Stranger In A Strange Land when I was 14. I don't believe I've read any Asimov yet.
Amazon or brick and mortar? When I want a book...I WANT A BOOK! Brick and mortar for me. The curse of being impatient!
Barnes & Noble or Borders? I prefer Barnes and Noble...Borders doesn't really have that "book store" feel to me, and I'm not sure why
Hitchhiker or Discworld? Um...I've never read either...in fact...I don't even know what Discworld is LOL! I am familiar with Hitchhiker tho :-)
Bookmark or Dogear? I've done both...as well as actually penciling (or penning, if I'm pencil-less at the time) sentences or passages that mean something to me. Sorry, Carl!
Magazine: Asimov's Science Fiction or Fantasy & Science Fiction? Never read either of these.
Alphabetize by author, alphabetize by title or random? Hahahah, um, I'm so random that sometimes I'm surprised to find I have a book. In other words, they are scattered about willynilly!
Keep, Throw Away or Sell? I'd never throw away a book, no matter how much I disliked it. I'd leave it at a hospital or cafe or something...just cause I don't like it doesn't mean NO ONE will! If I love a book, I will keep it forever and ever, amen. I don't think I've ever sold one.
Year's Best Science Fiction series (edited by Gardner Dozois) or Year's Best SF series (edited by David G. Hartwell)? Another one I haven't read (or heard of LOL).
Keep dustjacket or toss it? Who would toss a dustjacket? Obviously from that statement, I am a keeper. Coming back from London in 2003, I was reading the latest Harry Potter that had just been released while I was there. I took off the dustjacket so as not to rip it...and forgot it on the plane! I was and am upset about it!
Read with dustjacket or remove it? See above ;-)
Short story or novel? If I'm into a book, I prefer a novel...cause I don't want it to end!
Harry Potter or Lemony Snicket? Oh, hmmm...um...tough question...NOT! Harry Potter! To be fair, I've never read Lemony Snicket. I did pick up one at the bookstore but it just didn't grab me. Loved the movie tho!
Stop reading when tired or at chapter breaks? As I read alot in bed, generally I read til I'm tired. If I'm out and about...I read til something interrupts me. If someone is asking me to do something, however, I generally ask if I can just read til the end of the chapter.
"It was a dark and stormy night" or "Once upon a time"? It was a dark and stormy night...Snape was in the potions classroom concocting a "special" potion...one that would [fill in the blank]
Buy or Borrow? Either; altho if I love the book, I will go out and purchase it after reading the borrowed book.
Buying choice: Book Reviews, Recommendation or Browse? I love browsing! I also buy from recommendations. Book reviews not so much...altho I love Carl's, and his review of the Thirteen Tale made me want to read it.
Lewis or Tolkien? ha...um...hmm...yeah, it's Tolkien, and you know it! When I was 14 my friend Pat and I hitchhiked to a small (no longer there, sigh) bookstore in a town near mine (my own, my precious) and while browsing, picked up The Hobbit and fell in love with Tolkien (and Bilbo Baggins). Again, tho, I've (gasp) not read Lewis, altho, of course, I know of him.
Hard SF or Space Opera? Huh?
Collection (short stories by the same author) or Anthology (short stories by different authors)? Either/or...I'm not picky.
Hugo or Nebula? Um...no idea what this means.
Golden Age SF or New Wave SF? See above
Tidy ending or Cliffhanger? Tidy endings...really, who doesn't? Altho, if the book is of a series, and I adore it (Harry Potter) and it's not the end book, then I'll deal with the Cliffhanger...sigh...(Trust Snape)...
Morning reading, Afternoon reading or Nighttime reading? I'll read whenever I can! Lately, it's been mostly at night, before I fall asleep.
Standalone or Series? Now that's a seriously tough question! If I love a book, obviously I don't want it to end, so a series (which does eventually end) is preferable. However, I HATE waiting for the next book to come out!
Urban fantasy or high fantasy? Oh, jeepers, another "I don't know". Going by Carl's answer, in italics below, it would be high fantasy :-)
I really like both. Urban fantasy, like Neil Gaiman's book Neverwhere, are probably my favorite but only by the slimmest of margins. Of course Lord of the Rings, which would be considered high fantasy, is arguably my favorite fantasy series of all time.
New or used? Either/or. Sometimes it's fun to read a used book and see where someone underlined stuff.
Favorite book of which nobody else has heard? Anything by Richard Brautigan, particularly In Watermelon Sugar. His stuff might not translate well to this PC age; he was popular in the late '60s, early 70s, and might not make sense to those who didn't live thru those times.
Top 5 favorite genre books read last year (in no particular order)?
The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield
Garlic and Sapphires : The Secret Life of a Critic in Disguise by Ruth Reichl
The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls
My Life in France by Julia Child
A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore
Top X favorite genre books of all time (in no particular order)?

Saw this Celebrity Match over at Carol's The Turning Point; apropos of nothing, she has music on her blog that I actually enjoy!
Using "10 years younger" and "All" in the younger and older categories, these are the results:
Matt Dillon, who, as I told Carol, I don't particularly care for. Not worries, tho! I had these fine fellows to choose from:
French Stewart (he was on 3rd Rock from the Sun), Mark Dacascos (no clue), Prince Edward (interesting!), Will Clark (no clue), Chris Rock (he's funny!), Bruce Jenner (oh man, NO WAY!), Dr. Dre (he's hot), Booker "T" Huffman (no clue) and Scottie Pippen (I LOVED Scottie back in the day! MJ, Scottie, Horace...yum!) all at 93%. It's a toss up for me between Frenchie, Chris & Scottie...hmmm...
Bad news: Johnny Depp-23%, Alan Rickman-63% and Robert Plant-70%.
For women, these are my matches:
At 93% compatibility: Juliette Binoche (well, once removed from Depp, ok), Jasmine Guy (I'm loving her in Dead Like Me, yes I know it's an old series, I'm slow), Bonnie Raitt (love her hair), Kristin Davis (really???), Ivana Trump (really really???), and at 90% compatibility: Melissa Gilbert (hmmm), Courteney Cox (she'd be fun!), Courtney Love (wtf?), Sandra Bullock (I like her), and Vivica A. Fox (she's cool).
I've seen this on a couple of blogs and I love the art on these cards. I'm, of course, the Moon :) Let me know if you do this one so I can see your card!Continue reading "NaBloPoMo #8: Hope, expectation, bright promises..."
You are The Moon
Hope, expectation, Bright promises.
The Moon is a card of magic and mystery - when prominent you know that nothing is as it seems, particularly when it concerns relationships. All logic is thrown out the window.
The Moon is all about visions and illusions, madness, genius and poetry. This is a card that has to do with sleep, and so with both dreams and nightmares. It is a scary card in that it warns that there might be hidden enemies, tricks and falsehoods. But it should also be remembered that this is a card of great creativity, of powerful magic, primal feelings and intuition. You may be going through a time of emotional and mental trial; if you have any past mental problems, you must be vigilant in taking your medication but avoid drugs or alcohol, as abuse of either will cause them irreparable damage. This time however, can also result in great creativity, psychic powers, visions and insight. You can and should trust your intuition.
What Tarot Card are You?
Take the Test to Find Out.
I'm going to open this up to you readers...does it sound like me?
Saw this over at Fleur de Lisa's this morning and thought it would be fun to have YOU ALL answer the questions for me (I see MaryEllen running away very fast!)!1. If I were to make a collage to describe myself to others, what sorts of pictures or symbols would I include?

I were born in the Chinese year of the Rooster; my Native American Zodiac sign is Woodpecker and my plant is the Wild Rose.
I'm 592 months old [that one's for you, ME!]
My age is the equivalent of a dog that is 7.05 years old.

Sorry I've been scarce lately! I've not been able to keep up with the blogs I like to read, never mind emailing and IMing, due to having a tough few days at work; if I missed any posts you think I should see, please tell me about them.
Anyway, I'm happy to say that I passed all aspects of my inspection today! Many thanks to a quartet of hard working people in my office.
In other news...because I'm such a fashionista (HAHAHA!) I was intrigued with this meme over on Deb's blog; she got it from Suzanne, who also asked Deb to show a photo of herself from 10 years ago (she chose to use one from 20 years ago, as am I, but I'm just telling ya the basic rules of the meme).
Here goes!
What has been your biggest fashion indulgence?
I never spent that much money on clothing, even when I dressed up every day, definitely never spent over $100 on an outfit. However, this dress sure got me the most compliments:

I wore it to a Christmas party in this picture, as well as to work. Hmmm...that dress could tell some stories, yes it could!
What is your signature scent?
Right now, it's a potion I brewed up at a parfumerie in Newburyport. I call it Snape. It's a combo of Thierry Mugler's Angel (which I didn't discover until 2003 and absolutely LOVE) and Tunisian Opium. It's smoky and people seem to love it on me.
What was your biggest fashion mistake?

This haircut. What was I thinking???
What item(s) do you never travel without?
A book, cell phone, my iPod, moleskine & Micron pen, mints, ID and money. That's all I need :-) Oh! And my camera!
What was the last film you saw?
In the theater, I believe it was I have had it with these motherfuckin' "Snakes on this motherfuckin' a Plane" At home it was probably Pirates of the Caribbean 1.
What beauty products do you swear by?
- Caudalie Contour Cream for Eyes and Lips.
- Lancome's Imanance (a tinted facial day creme with an SPF of 15).
- Sweep Away by Paula Dorf (make up remover).
- Pureology HydrateShampoo & Conditioner. Try this if you can find some, it's THE most fantastic shampoo & conditioner, ever!
- Make Up Forever's Star Powder; it's iridescent and I love to use it on my eyes!
- Burt's Bees Beeswax Lip Balm (in the tin)
- Bourjois Coup de Theatre mascara
- MAC bronzing powder
You'd think by that list I wear alot of makeup...lol! I hardly ever do :-)
What is on your iPod?
Tons of music, some of Charles Laquidara's radio shows from WBOS, and all the Harry Potter books :-)
What was the last item of clothing you bought?
A bunch of nice tops & pants to wear when I'm doing weddings.

See?
Where do you buy your lingerie?
hahaha lingerie? If by lingerie you mean sexy underthings, I don't. If by lingerie you mean everyday bras & panties, I buy them from wherever.
Which shop(s) couldn't you live without?
Sephora! The parfumerie up in Newburyport! TJ Maxx & Marshall's. And that's about it ;-)

The Hierophant often represents learning with experts or knowledgeable teachers. This card also stands for institutions and their values. The Hierophant is a symbol of the need to conform to rules or fixed situations. His appearance in a reading can show that you are struggling with a force that is not innovative, free-spirited or individual. Groups can be enriching or stifling, depending on circumstances. Sometimes we need to follow a program or embrace tradition, other times, we need to trust ourselves. For a full description of your card and other goodies, please visit LearnTarot.com |

If you have ever lost someone very important to you, then you already know how it feels; and if you haven't, you cannot possibly imagine it.
--Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events (2004)
Before I start, I just want to say that today is the first birthday I've had without my mother. And it feels weird.
Dad DID remember, and that made me smile :-)
Now on with the 13!

1. Overtly or covertly taken up with life as romance, as adventure. Drawn to the drama of life; it's difficult to resist the temptation of an exciting journey, an intriguing situation or hidden love affair. People born on this day wear their heart on their sleeve; the adventuresomeness they cherish is fully public. Finds the hiding of a secret the most romantic and speical act of all.
2. Exalts passion and experience to the highest plane. When in love or in search of a new adventure, no longer fully in touch with the mundane world.
3. Normally, the highs they feel are as intense as religious or drug experiences; unfortunately, their lows may be equally weighty and deep. However, after several disappointments, they can begin to steel themselves to the world, and to close off, to become more covert in their motives and actions. [how very true]
4. The danger in this is that as the years pass the chances of becoming increasingly isolated in a dreamworld where memories are infused with a still greater romance than they once did in the actual life becomes strong.
5. Rarely realizes how heavy the need is to control their emotional environment; in their mind they are at the mercy of their feelings. Fantasy life can manifest as a very real entity.
6. Many born on this day sail along on an uncharted course of desires or fantasy, searching always for the next exalted state. More highly developed people will eventually wish to gather in their ego and develop a higher form of conciousness. It is only through practice of a higher awareness, that is, simply observing what is happening around and inside them moment to moment, that they can stop endlessly repeating themselves.
7. The power of their projected emotion is usually so strong that those around them immediately sense what is expected of them and what is forbidden. In both setting up invisible boundaries and leaving invisible doors open, they are able to exert a strong influence on loved ones.
8. They are highly individual; they often take a minority point of view with great self assurance which can arouse antagonism and make enemies, perhaps secret ones. [very true, too]
9. People born on the 11th and 22nd days of any month may develop an interest in twins, coincidences, symmetry and various other doubles. [lol oh hell yes]
10. Recognize the power of fantasies. Beware of jealousy and possessiveness; learn to let it go. When you lose, admit defeat gracefully and move on, gaining from the experience.
11. "If not in this lifetime then in the next."
12. Both the Moon and the crab symbolize the life of the Unconcious.
13. Many water-sign people are highly empathetic or sympathetic, and so they are hurt when others do not reciprocate. Their sensitivity to criticism and rejection is very high; consequently, they can usually tell when someone approves or disapproves of them before a word is said. [this is very true]

Saw this over at DebR's; I copied a few of her answers, and attributed them to her!
TEN random things you might not know about me (a tough one, cause we Cancerians like to keep our secrets, yes we do):
1. In my early 20s, I asked all my friends to start calling me Beth, a contraction of my middle name, cause I didn't like my first name. So they did, and would call the house asking for Beth. My parents would answer and say, sorry you have the wrong number. LOL!
2. I used to do home care for the elderly and really liked it alot. Most times, homecare was minimal and listening and talking was the norm.
3. I once lived in a 3 room (not counting the bathroom) apartment with 2 adult dogs and 8 puppies; the guy I lived with was in the hospital after being hit on his motorcycle by an oil truck. Crushed almost every bone in his foot and broke his pelvis. It wasn't a happy time, no, not at all. He came out of the hospital addicted to morphine and a very changed person. I moved out and in with my friend, Sue.
4. My friend Sue had to come and make me get out of bed after the accident. I remember being so incredibly depressed I could barely move, but she wouldn't take no for an answer and once I was up and doing things, the depression, it went away.
5. You know how I don't like bananas but I love things that taste like them? Well I don't like most things that taste like almonds, but I adore almonds themselves.
6. One of my favorite things in the world to do is ... nah...that's too secret ;-)
7. I dated a married man...when I was in high school. In my defense, I had no idea he was married, altho he told my best friend and swore her to secrecy as he knew if I knew I'd not have gone out with him. Duh. Also, he was 24 to my 14. Times, they were different back then!
8. I used to cut myself...learned it from the my best friend (same one as above) who'd come to school with a bandana wrapped around her hand, dripping with blood. Think the teachers ever said anything? Nah...this was the 70s and she was good at hiding things.
9. I used to work for a company that paid me to inject rats and mice with radioactive medications, some meant for the heart, some the liver, some the lungs, etc. Then, after a certain time period would pass, I'm have to sacrifice them (the rats with a miniature guillotine) and dissect them, putting their blood in one test tube, and each organ in their separate test tubes. Then the organs were tested to see if the radioactivity was actually going where it was supposed to. Both mice & rats were anesthetized before being sacrificed. Yes, I know this was a horrible job, and yes, it's hard for me, the animal lover, to believe I used to do it.
10. Met a nephew of Stephen King's at the aforementioned job, while I was sacrifying a rat; we dated for awhile, but I was very glad nothing came of it...can you imagine telling the children and grandchildren how we met?
NINE places I've visited:
1. Tokyo, Japan
2. Edinburgh, Scotland
3. London, England
4. Paris, France
5. Oahu, Hawaii
6. Redondo Beach, CA
7. Denver, CO
8. Toronto, Canada
9. New York City
EIGHT ways to win my heart (I'm sorry to be a copy cat, but some of these answers I can't change...it's exactly what I'd say; I'll asterisk the ones I copied):
1. Feed me a home-cooked meal that I had absolutely nothing to do with preparing and that I don't have to clean up after.*
2. Share with me a really good red wine.
3. Be nice to my dogs.*
4. Let me take photos of you without complaining about how you hate to have your picture taken, or how you don't like your hair, or how those pants make you look fat, or whatever - in other words, just let me take the picture!*
5. Don't be offended or take it personally when I need some quiet time alone.*
6. Tell me you like something I've created - anything I've created! (bonus points if you can articulate why you like it; double bonus points if you can articulate why you like it without ever using the word "cute")*
7. Don't feel the need to fill every moment you're with me with a load of chatter...if you can recognize companionable silence, even better
8. Listen when I talk - really, truly LISTEN.*
SEVEN things I want to do before I die:
1. Go to Germany.
2. Go to New Zealand.
3. Go to Australia.
4. Go to all the Hawaiian islands
5. Go to Kyoto.
6. Go to the Grand Canyon.
7. Go to Yellowstone National Park.
SIX things I'm afraid of:
1. Spiders
2. bees
3. centipedes
4. becoming a bag lady
5. losing my Japanese dishes
6. losing my cameras and photo albums
FIVE things I don't like:
1. Self-centeredness
2. ignorance
3. natto
4. green mint ice cream
5. a succession of ordinary days
FOUR ways to turn me off:
1. Create drama where there doesn't need to be any (I'm keeping this answer!!!)
2. Abuse animals.
3. try to talk to me with your mouth full of food.
4. snap your damn gum.
THREE things I do every day:
1. Read
2. take pictures
3. Walk Wolf
TWO things that make me happy:
1. Thinking about a song, and hearing it immediately thereafter on the radio
2. Photography
ONE thing on my mind right now:
1. I cannot BELIEVE how hot it was Sunday! Not complaining in the least, just SHOCKED!
Want to play along? Tell me so in comments and you can consider yourself officially tagged. Of course you can also comment without requesting a tag.
I love when it gets so hot out that I can smell the candles inside the house...or inside the gift shop down the street as I drive by!
Had my yearly mammo today; other than waiting to see the doc for 45 minutes, everything is fine. I even educated the doc and her nurse about the wonders of listening to books on iPods...neither one knew this and both of them are only in their 30s.
Had a teensy inspection at work, more of a physical inventory. Went well! Speaking of work, things are quite busy lately...they've decided to have me do consultant paperwork again. What fun!
My brother forgot to check on Dad while I was gone last weekend...anyone want to check in on him next time I go away just to make sure he doesn't need anything, or burn down the house? When I got home Sunday night, the first thing I smelled was a burning odor...asked him what it was and apparently he put breakfast sausages in the microwave. Instead of setting it for 3 minutes, he set it for 30 minutes. OMG! I see I need to put that note back on the microwave...he's lucky!
I'm taking care of a friend's three cats, two chickens, and a rabbit while she's frickin' sunning herself and drinking foofoo drinks for a week in the Bahamas. Beyotch!!! *wanders off mumbling*
Saw this at Michelle's recently, and she got it from A Geek in Beantown, who got it from another (and another and a sistah and a brothah...anyone know what that's from?):
I saw this over at Red Shoe Ramblings and thought it was quite interesting! I included definitions on "dosha" and "kapha" in the title, if you click on the words in the title.
| Your Dosha is Kapha |
![]() You tend to think a little slower than most people, but your logic is astounding. [dunno about this one] Overall, you are very loyal and trustworthy. You're not scared of being who you really are. [true] With friends: You enjoy their company, but often listen more than talk. [true] In love: You crave connection and affection. It's hard for you to be single. [not so much] To achieve more balance: Exercise vigorously (especially in the sun) and let go of attachments. [good idea, especially the second part!] |
Seen at Michelle's back in April:
Continue reading "Designer/Advocating"This how it works: TNChick gave me the letter "C"; I'll write ten words beginning with "C" (what fun!). When you leave a comment on this entry, I'll give YOU a letter (if you want to play) and then you post this in your blog...and so on and so on :-)
1. Camera: Of course, my list of Cs would have to start with this. It's my passion, my outlet, it's something I can't ever imagine not doing...and it's FUN! Ironically...my favorite brand of camera over the years has been Canon.
2. Cancer: Awhile back, I had an appointment with the dermatologist to get a teensy little patch of skin on my arm (right under my cherry blossom tattoo!!) checked out. I heard from the dermatologist today; not entirely good news, but not really bad, either. It's squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), which is the second most common skin cancer (basal cell carcinoma is the first). No big deal though, they just scrap it off and then cauterize the area. No cutting off of the arm required...(see picture below...it's the red spot)
3. Chocolat, cafe-creme, crepes and Champs Elysees: Things I enjoyed in Paris!
4. Cemetary: I really like exploring cemetaries, so quiet and peaceful!
5. Clams: AKA steamahs...with an ice cold beah...a delicious New England summertime meal!
6. Cousins: I have two that I love, MB & Mel!
7. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: The closest I've gotten yet to seeing what Johnny Depp would look like as a vampire!
8. Chamber (of Secrets): I think this was my favorite Harry Potter movie so far. MMMmmm, Lord Voldemort was a hottie when he was young!
9. Celebrity crush: What I have on Johnny Depp, Viggo Mortensen and Professor Snape (well, technically, I guess, Snape is a character crush)!
10. Cooking: It's a passion of mine; it never bores me and the only thing I dislike about it is cleaning up the pots, pans & dishes!!
I swear, it was more difficult choosing just these 10 then thinking UP 10! I think I thought of at least 25 and pared it down.
* I AM: getting ready to watch 24
* I WANT: a new home
* I WISH: that life could be easier, just a bit.
* I HATE: ignorance
* I MISS: my mother
* I FEAR: spiders and bees!
* I HEAR: when I want to.
* I WONDER: why I make life harder.
* I REGRET: not staying longer that night at the nursing home
* I AM NOT: pretty egotistical
* I DANCE: when I go to clubs, which isn't very much lately
* I SING: all the time, in the car
* I CRY: rarely
* I AM NOT ALWAYS: on time
* I MAKE WITH MY HANDS: blogposts
* I WRITE: cards and letters more often in the recent past, but not as often as when I lived in Japan
* I CONFUSE: most people
* I NEED: my camera
* I SHOULD: be less self concious.
* I START: and sometimes don't finish things
* I FINISH: not everything I start
* I TAG: whoever would like to be tagged
Seen at Smoochdog or technically, via an email from her, here I am as a South Park character:

This new South Park character needs a name...what to call her? Your thoughts?
My friend MaryEllen did one too, and as she doesn't have a blog, I thought I'd post hers here because I find it amusing:

(doesn't she look like she's trying to asphyxiate the kids behind her?)
So if you'd like to see your alter ego as a South Park character, click on this link.
Continue reading "this and that..."Poor Wolf had a rough night tonight. First he upchucked some grass he'd eaten...those tender sprouts first thing in the spring hold such appeal for him, and Max, too. Then when he was upchucking, he did a strangled shiba scream...scared the bejesus out of me.
Later we were playing with one of his disembowled chew toys. When I went to pull on it (he loves to play tug of war) it got caught on his front dewclaw and I didn't notice. He did a shiba scream peep, and completely lost interest in the toy.
My poor Wolfie!
Continue reading "Trials and tribulations and past lifes"Cause Zoot so nicely extended the invitation to participate...and because I don't think I've even done this! But I have a very severe case of CRS, so who knows...
Astonished that I've made it to 48 years, 9 months, 27 days...
Banishing self doubt is a lot harder than writing this
Can't wait for the new (and last) Harry Potter book to come out!
Do you really think Snape is guilty?
Every day, I'm happy to be alive.

Thirteen Things - Janet's Friends
(please don't be insulted if I left you out...it wasn't intentional, I only had 13 numbers to use and I went by seniority!)***1. Maribeth: That girl can cook up a STORM; she also loves her dogs like I love mine. I'm glad she's both my cousin AND friend.
2. Melodie: She is the best storyteller I've ever met; she could give Stephen King a run for his money! We've become closer in the last couple of years, and I really like that :-)
3. Cal: He was my boyfriend in highschool and all these years later, we're still friends.
4. Pat: Met her in 9th grade, we did some pretty dumb things and sometimes it amazes me we lived through it!
5. Betsy: We met when she was assigned to Hanscom Air Force Base in 1986 or so. She's the smartest person I know, also the most un-pretentious and the most fun!
6. Diane: Met her through Betsy, didn't think I'd like her at first due to her views on certain things, but we ended up becoming good friends.
7. Mo: Met her through Betsy, too; she's like the sister I never had. I can call her up at a moment's notice, say let's go here or there, and she almost always says OK!
8: Kim: Met her through Betsy, too! Not only is she my friend, but she's my dentist! She throws the best parties and is always fun.
9. Gaylen: She taught me patience, no easy feat. She was my lifeline to sanity when I lived in Japan in the early 90s and was going through a hell of a divorce.
10. Eileen: Seems like just yesterday we met, but it's going on 10 years [E: it's not 10 years, it's 9 years, 1 month & 15 days-she's in accounting, can you tell?]. She's the person that talked me into going to Paris and was just as surprised as I was that I fell in love with the city!
11. MaryEllen: Met her online; then in person and was shocked at how short she was. That we've stayed friends for the last 9 years despite our many differences is a testament to friendship!
12. Krista: We met in 2004 via blogging. She's an amazing artist and a good friend...altho I thought she didn't like me the first few times we met. I think she likes me a bit now. Maybe ;-)
13. Michelle: We hit it off from the moment we met in Dec' 04, again via blogging, and altho we are nothing alike, our friendship continues to thrive based on respect and caring.

***as anyone who knows me knows, I've been very forgetful lately, to the point of ridiculousness. For example, I talked to a coworker recently and told him I was going to fax some paperes down to him right away. I promptly got distracted by something and completely forgot about it, 2 minutes later! He called me back, and was all...um...are you sending that fax? I was all...OMG! I totally forgot! He said...how could you forget? We JUST spoke on the phone?
I use that as an example for leaving two people off my list of friends (friends, in this case, being people I've met in real life, there're lots of bloggers I really like, but I haven't met them yet. Maybe I'll do a list of my 13 favorite bloggers next week), people that mean alot to me.
This first is Aislinn! We met at work, and had in common an AF history, a love of LOTR and lots of other things. I don't see her as much as I'd like to, as she doesn't work with me anymore and lives 2 gazillion miles away. But I will see her Saturday, when she'll probably kick my ass for leaving her off the list.
The second is Lauren. Lauren I met at work, too, and we've been through alot together, including my being there for her when she had to put her dog, Felisha, to sleep. We've had our ups and downs, but I count her among my friends.
Now...anyone else I forgot, I'm totally sorry, but it's due to my advanced CRS!
Oh, wait! And Monique! How can i forget Monique! She introduced me to Boston's transvestite club and cracks me up. Sorry Monique!
And Heather! Who can forget Heather?! Apparently, I can...sorry Heather!
Amy's got some badass memes!!!
Below are six secrets about me. Trick is...only three of them are actually true. Your mission is to figure out which are true and which are NOT. I'll follow Amy's example and will come up with a prize for the winner.
1. My ex-husband (the second one), once threw a bowl of hot veggie soup at me during an argument. I promptly went to his supervisor's house and showed him, via veggies all over me, what he'd done.
2. On the occasion of each full moon, I try to harness its energy for spells involving artistic projects, psychic abilities or making decisions.
3. I had a crush on this guy in high school, his name was Richie. One day, I badgered him into letting me paint his toenails black; later that night his father noticed Richie's toes and beat him up for it. I felt so bad about that, still do.
4. Being the center of attention is something I crave; I LOVE it so much! It makes me feel so good!
5. I once won a medal for participating in a sporting event. I came in second!
6. My natural hair color is red, I inherited it from my Mom's side of the familiy--there's a long line of redheads, all the way back to Scotland.
I was tagged by Carmen and Amy to tell you all 6 weird things about myself [insert dramatic sigh]...oh, how hard it will be to limit it to come up with 6 weird things about me!
1. I'll try eating just about anything once, which is how I put natto, sea urchin roe & chitlins in my mouth (not at the same time, and my rating is: yuck, yuck & yuck!).
2. I don't like food that is artificially colored green, such as mint chocolate chip ice cream.
3. I enjoy the attention my dog, Wolf, gets when we're out walking, cause I HATE/DETEST/CAN NOT STAND to be the center of attention and would much rather any attention be on someone else.
4. I procrastinate like no one's business, then stress out because I've procrastinated. Dude, just DO IT!.
5. I am deathly afraid of spiders and bees, but have a snake cross my path, and I'm cool with it.
6. I can only learn about things that interest me...ask me about the stock market or how cars work and I'll yawn and fall asleep, but ask me about the different kinds of olive oil, how many races of Elves there are, or what Snape's mother's name is, and I'll rattle it off in a second.
I'll leave it to those who want to play along to consider themselves tagged, mmmmkay?
Seen at Carmen's. You enter your personal data, it turns your data in values and your values into art. Mine came out quite patriotic LOL!
Seen at At the Top of Squirrel Spur:
Accent: Bostonian, but not nearly as bad as some. My mother always said it was because she was born and raised in PA, therefore, her children didn't have the typical Bostonian accent...and I think she was right.
Booze: Yum! Especially xxx dirty martinis!
Chore I Hate: All of them!
Dog or Cat: I've had both, but right now I have two dogs, Wolf & Max.
Essential Electronics: My cameras!!! Also, the computer, Tivo, DVD player, tv, car radio, iPods, toothbrush, washer, dryer, water heater, refrigerator, lamps. I think that's it!
Favorite Perfume: Angel by Thierry Mugler for me; for a man, I love the scent of sandalwood, earthy scents, altho one guy I dated smelled like apples & cinnamon and I wanted to eat him up!
Gold or Silver: Silver, like the rays of the moon
Hometown: B'rica (there's the accent)
Insomnia: Not often
Job Title: I've had many! Now it's Admin Assistant/FSO, but I've also been "dog & cat groomer" "secretary" "clerk typist" "cashier" "convenience store assistant manager"
Kids: Love 'em but couldn't have 'em, unfortunately
Living arrangements: Two dogs, my Dad and various self doubts
Most admirable trait: Hmmm...I don't think I have one, or at least what I think is admirable, most folks wouldn't
Number of sexual partners: Oh, dude, let's not go there!
Overnight hospital stays: A few; tonsils, ectopic pregnancy, gall bladder
Phobias: spiders! and bees!
Quote: "A [wo]man can stand anything except a succession of ordinary days." - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Religion: Gandhi once said: "As soon as we lose the moral basis, we cease to be religious. There is no such thing as religion over-riding morality. Man, for instance, cannot be untruthful, cruel or incontinent and claim to have God on his side." Organized religion seems to be as much a social outlet as a religious belief...me? My religion is nature; walking in the woods, seeing the vast abundance of living things...miracles.
Siblings: I have one living, a brother. My mom had a still birth before me, a girl she named Susan.
Time I wake up: Depends on when I went to sleep! Usually around 7:30 am or so
Unusual talent or skill: Hmmm...I don't think I have any unusual talents or skills...just the usual ones
Vegetable I refuse to eat: That's a tough one...I don't think there's a veggie I don't like! Scotch bonnet pepper, how's that?
Worst habit: Putting myself down
X-rays: I've had a few; dental, mammo, abdominal
Yummy foods I make: Kraft Macaroni & Cheese! Seriously, I make a mean gumbo for a northern chick.
Zodiac sign: A friend, who's also an astrologer, told me: "...although you are a Cancer (with all the beautiful artistic essence that goes with that), with a total of 6 fire planets, you also have a very strong and dramatic "Arian~Leonine" colouring to your personality."

Seen over at Ethereal Girl:
Where was your soul born?

Your soul was born in the shadows of the moon at night. You're all mystery and enigma and your element is the Moon. No one really knows who you are, but they might think they know you. You only tell people fragments of who you are and never show your true personality.
That doesn't have to mean that you're being someone you're not, though. You're always yourself and you never do something just because someone else does. Some might think you're a little cold or dull, but you're just hiding your true self for some reason. Maybe only a couple of selected people have ever seen the true you. You are loyal to these people and it will take time if anyone else wants to gain your trust.
You let people think that they know you and that you trust them. But sooner or later they will realize that they never really knew you. Be careful. Someday you might need someone who knows what you need. Trust people.
You prefer silence and tranquillity. You're calm and collected and a nice person most of the time.
Take this quiz!

My next pet will be named...I probably won't have any more pets after Max & Wolf, given my age and given how long dogs & cats live
This weekend I plan to...have a drink with Pat, go out with Krista & Michelle Saturday and possibly take the dogs to the beach...and work out...and take Dad to breakfast.
Breakfast was...a bagel with lowfat cream cheese
Last night at 8pm I was...putting the finishing touches on some mac & cheese, and getting ready to watch My Name is Earl.
I deal with stress by...getting upset, then getting over it; working out would be the better solution
I forgot...to go to Michelle's jewelry party last night! I'm so sorry!
Borrowed from Empress
You see many things through the eyes of a child.
Meaning, you're rarely cynical or jaded. [disagree]
You cherish all of the details in life.
Easily fascinated, you enjoy experiencing new things.
***You Are a Dreaming Soul***
Your vivid emotions and imagination takes you away from this world
So much so that you tend to live in your head most of the time
You have great dreams and ambitions that could be the envy of all...
But for you, following through with your dreams is a bit difficult
You are charming, endearing, and people tend to love you.
Forgiving and tolerant, you see the world through rose colored glasses.
Underneath it all, you have a ton of passion that you hide from others.
Always hopeful, you tend to expect positive outcomes in your life.
Souls you are most compatible with: Newborn Soul, Prophet Soul, and Traveler Soul
um...that title just doesn't sound quite right. Anyway, here:
Quickie: You are entering a selfish phase in your life, but it's a good and enriching thing. <---COOL!
Overview: Do you really want to play a supporting role in this person's drama? Didn't think so. It's time to back off. Be a sympathetic ear, yes, but whatever you do, don't egg them on. They don't need any encouragement. <---no more drama!!!
Daily extended: You've been working very hard to keep things under control for some time, and it hasn't been easy. Not even a tiny little bit. If you can keep it going for a little while longer, though -- and you know you can -- you'll be oh so pleasantly surprised at how terrifically it turns out. Your quest now is to keep your eye on the ball, no matter what might come along to distract you. <----Talk about hitting the nail on the head. But, oooh I do so love a good, strong "distraction" ;-)

1. Walking into work this morning I noticed green shoots poking up from the ground!
2. Walking out of the building at lunchtime, I noticed a ladybug crawling along the walkway..
3. On the way back from Salem, NH, I thought...wow, it's almost warm enough for AC in the car!
4. Which, of course, this being New England, means it'll be 10 below tomorrow.
5. I went to Best Buy to buy this and ended up with this...
6. It wasn't really an impulse buy, I'd thought about looking at TVs while I was there since mine had expired at an early age (11) recently.
7. As usual and typical, I left work without getting directions; Salem's not that big, it MUST be in the same general area as the mall and stuff, right?
8. So I called Monique to see if she knew...she didn't, but looked it up online and we determined....yes, it's in the same general area ;-)
9. Anyone want to come introduce my new tv to the things it'll be spending the rest of its life with, i.e., hook the damn thing up to my Tivo, DVD & VHS?
10. I need a new pair of glasses.
11. Why is Sayid hotter when he gets ready to torture someone? And damn it, why did Sawyer have to kill the frog? Bastid! You watch, though...he'll be sick next week cause the frog was poisonous.
12. It feels so good when I accelerate my car up a hill, the pressure gently pushes me into the seat...not unlike when a plane takes off, not quite as strong, d'oh.
13. And finally, ahhh...James Blunt's You're Beautiful just came on the radio. What a voice! Sorry, got distracted...finally, none of the usual suspects are available to see this Zeppelin tribute band with me Saturday night...anyone wanna volunteer to go with me?

Seen here and there in blogdom, but most recently at Colleen's blog...I finally jumped on the bandwagon. As Colleen said, "you type in the name of your blog and it creates a word collage based on what's found at your site."
Pretty cool! I ordered the t-shirt, cause I'm a geek like that. Here's what mine looks like:

Of course, before I jumped on this bandwagon, I played around with a word cloud from flickr; it looks like this:
1. Where is your favorite place for solitude? I'd have to say the woods, especially at the end of a really hot summer's day...the smell of the evergreen is just fantastic. Course it's fun in the snow, too!
Continue reading "The interview, by Krista"Yup, sorry!!! And not just one...but THREE!
I had to share this first one cause it's pretty damn true:
The Five Factor Personality Test
Extroversion:
You have medium extroversion.
You're not the life of the party, but you do show up for the party.
Sometimes you are full of energy and open to new social experiences.
But you also need to hibernate and enjoy your "down time." [very true!]
Conscientiousness:
You have low conscientiousness.
Impulsive and off the wall, you don't take life too seriously.
Unfortunately, you sometimes end up regretting your snap decisions.
Overall, you tend to lack focus, and it's difficult for you to get important things done. [again, very true]
Agreeableness:
You have medium agreeableness.
You're generally a friendly and trusting person.
But you also have a healthy dose of cynicism.
You get along well with others, as long as they play fair. [I'll just say yes, very true to this and move on]
Neuroticism:
You have low neuroticism.
You are very emotionally stable and mentally together.
Only the greatest setbacks upset you, and you bounce back quickly.
Overall, you are typically calm and relaxed - making others feel secure. [I don't know about "making others feel secure", but yes, very true to the rest]
Openness to experience:
Your openness to new experiences is high.
In life, you tend to be an early adopter of all new things and ideas.
You'll try almost anything interesting, and you're constantly pushing your own limits.
A great connoisseir of art and beauty, you can find the positive side of almost anything. [yes, this is definitely me]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Then this one was just too cute:
You Are French Food: Snobby yet ubiquitous. People act like they understand you more than they actually do. [The last sentence I think is true in many cases]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Finally, cause everyone loves a good secret:
Your Love Life Secrets, Revealed
Looking back on your life, you will have a few true loves. [very true]
You're a little scarred from your past relationships, but who isn't? [probably more than a little...]
You expect a lot from your lover - you want the full package. You tend to be very picky. [yes, I've been QUITE spoiled in this regard]
In fights, you speak your mind and don't hold back. You know you're right, and you can get quite angry about it. [oh hell yes, in love, in friendship, at work, you name it...not necessarily a good quality]
A break-up usually comes as a shock to you. You always think things are going well. [actually, the the first sentence is true. Even if things weren't going well, I usually think we can work things about, and this is true of friendships as well]
As the Beatles, and later, Joe Cocker once said: "Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends".
Name 5 things that make you think of me...negative, positive, whatever, just 5 things that remind you of me! I'll return the favor ;-)
ala Megan:
1. What is your reaction to waking up and seeing snow? [Thanks ME!]
2. What's your favorite dessert to order out? to make at home? [Thanks Monique!]
3. Do you file your taxes early or late?
4. Do you usually get a big refund? If so, what do you do with it?
5. How do you handle your bills? Are you really organized, really laid back or somewhat in between. Describe.
6. How important is money in terms of your happiness?
7. What did your parents teach you about money?
8. What do you wish your parents had taught you about money?
9. What are your plans for the weekend?
10. Bonus question. Jimbo and I want to go away for an extended weekend somewhere within driving distance and not too much money (but nice!). Where do you suggest?
Borrowed from Write from Karen:
You are attracted to those who are unbridled, untrammeled, and free.
In love, you feel the most alive when your lover is creative and never lets you feel bored.
You'd like your lover to think you are loyal and faithful... that you'll never change.
You would be forced to break up with someone who was ruthless, cold-blooded, and sarcastic.
Your ideal relationship is lasting. You want a relationship that looks to the future... one you can grow with.
Your risk of cheating is low. Even if you're tempted, you'd try hard not to do it.
You think of marriage as something precious. You'll treasure marriage and treat it as sacred.
In this moment, you think of love as commitment. Love only works when both people are totally devoted.

1. I woke up with a wicked headache.
2. You'd think I'd've taken an advil right away, but it's still sitting on my desk.
3. I am a procrastinator...d'uh!
4. The receptionist at work hates me and is trying to make me fatter! She'll ask me if I want anything from downstairs and next thing I know I'm eating egg, cheese & bacon on an english muffin instead of the oalmeal I'd planned on. Bad, bad, evil girl.
5. Wolf, at the rate he's shedding, will soon be completely bald!
6. It's been so long since I've been appreciated for anything at work that I've pretty much ceased to do anything other than the bare minimum. What's the point?
7. Finally, I mailed off two pictures in a frame that I've contributed to a charity thanks to the urging of a friend in NC.
8. A similarly framed couple of pictures will possibly soon be hanging in a local Starbucks, thanks to another friend.
9. My office needs a cardboard cutout of Professor Snape to keep Legolas happy, don't you think?
10. I am determined to layout a story board for the children's book I'm doing with Krista. I will do it by the end of February!
11. Why did Locke have to punch Charlie THREE times last night? Crissakes...
12. If you've never watched The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, do yourself a favor and tivo it...he is one funny Scotsman!
13. Well, you'll be glad to know I took the advil AND vitamin & high blood pressure pills!

The book: The South Beach Diet
Nowadays, we know that plaque buildup is more complicated and has less-predictable consequences. Plaque begins when cholesterol penetrates the inner lining of an arterial wall and starts forming an absesslike pocket. Inflammatory cells pour into the abscess, maing it larger and inflamed. [be thankful I had to stop here, it got really gross!]

6. Again, your life is a TV talk show and the producers said you can have on any four guests you want tonight, alive or dead, past or present. Who do you pick? I really like the folks Running2Ks picked! Those were some great choices. I guess I'd pick Ruth Gordon, Helen Hayes, Malcolm X and the Dalai Lama.
7. Your life is going to do an episode "on location"...to where? Japan, of course!
8. They are making the movie of your life--what director and / or screenwriter do you want to have attached to the project? Peter Jackson, hands down. He'd be faithful to the details.
9. They told you you can be a "guest" on any current or past TV show, one episode only--what TV show do you choose to appear on? I'd like to be Sawyer's love interest on Lost, please.
10. They told you they have the power to make a sequel to your favorite movie that does not already have a sequel--what movie do you choose? Can I look into the future and say it's the last Harry Potter movie I'd like to see a sequel to?

"One out of four people in this country is mentally unbalanced. Think of your three closest friends; if they seem OK, then you're the one." ~ Ann Landers [my friends are all crazy, so that's a relief]
I was tagged by Colleen, a former Masshole (not that she is that, in any sense of the word!) who made the move to VA (as I did) but ended up staying:
Four jobs I've had in my life: A dog & cat groomer, cashier at an AF base commissary, secretary to a 3-star general, helper in a bagel shop
Four movies I could watch over and over: Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, The Ghost & Mrs. Muir, Forrest Gump
Four places I've lived: Lowell, MA, numerous times with numerous roommates/boyfriends. Aurora, CO with my first ex husband. Fussa, Japan with my second ex husband. Newport News, VA where I met he who must not be named.
Four TV shows I love to watch: Lost certainly leads the pack, 24 is back on 1/15 and I'm looking forward to it, I also like Supernatural (nice eye candy AND scary stuff) & Medium.
Four places I've been on vacation: Paris, which I expected to not like at all and fell in love with; Edinburgh, which I expected to fall in love with and did; Oahu, where I got to see an old friend from Japan AND each morning, walk across the street from my hotel to a walkway that jutted out into the ocean, sipping my coffee and having my morning spam musubi; and Otaru in Hokkaido, which reminded me of Boston at a time when I was extremely homesick.
Four websites I visit daily: Bloglines, so I can check up on all my favorite blog reads; MoveableType; Google; Gmail.
Four of my favorite foods: Macaroni & cheese, fresh salad with lots of ingredients, pizza, salt & vinegar chips
Four places I'd rather be: Out in the woods with the dogs on a long, long walk; at a warm beach soaking up the sun; having a massage; wandering the streets of Tokyo.
Four albums I can't live without: Albums, eh? Well, I don't listen to my albums anymore, but when I did, here are four I could listen to til the cows came home: The White Album by The Beatles just blew me away; First Time Out by James Montgomery (a local Boston band), Private Lightning by Private Lightning (another Boston band, now defunct), which featured a song called Physical Speed that struck a resounding chord with me; and The Slider by T-Rex.
Four people I'm tagging if they want to be caught: My cousins Maribeth & Melodie, Watergirl & EtherealGirl! Have fun, girls! Mel, you can just do yours in my comments :-)
1. What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before?

It was great fun reading your answers to: Why does this amuse me so?. Five answers were unanimous: Leader, spontaneous, hiking, barefoot & jeans. Just for fun, make a sentence out of those five words about me!
Here's how I see myself:
Continue reading "Answers to " Why does this amuse me so?""Michelle sent me this cool link last night, and this is the house I drew:
It said some stuff about me, too, but I can't remember all it said and in any case, most of it didn't ring true!
I met up with my friend Diane & her daughter, Chloe (she's 6) today for breakfast at CrackerBarrel. Chloe had fun coloring and showing off her writing & spelling skills, and I had fun watching her. I gave her one of my Mom's bears (Mom collected them) and told her it needed a new home and someone to love it. She said she'd be happy to!
Now off to pick up some food for tomorrow's dinner, and then if the dogs are lucky, to the beach for a romp!
Are y'all having fun today?

5 Weird Habits about Myself
Rules: "The first player of this game starts with the topic "five weird habits of yourself," and people who get tagged need to write an entry about their five weird habits as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose the next five people to be tagged and link to their web journals. Don't forget to leave a comment in their blog or journal that says "You are tagged" (assuming they take comments) and tell them to read yours."
1. I love mint chocolate chip ice cream...but it has to be white ice cream, not green (but green is my fav color, go figure)
2. Once I pour a cup of coffee, I'll sip on it all day ... and woe unto those who throw it out!

5. If I love a movie, I can watch it over and over and over; same thing for music...it takes a really, REALLY long time, if ever, for me to get sick of a song. Once I like it...I could listen to it day in, day out...as anyone who's ridden in my car can attest to. Led Zeppelin, anyone?
Ok. There you have it. Now, to tag:
1. AtypicalFemale
2. Tramps Like Us

Saw this over at Thoughts Outside My Head; loved the artwork in the picture, so decided to share.

~Nuit~
It means 'night'.
You are a quiet person who enjoys being alone.
Unlike Congele, you are accepted, you just like
to have time to yourself to think. You
especially like the nightime, because looking
at the stars makes you think of how small we
all are in the world, and how much there is
about the universe that we don't and can't
know...
What is your French name?
brought to you by Quizilla
I'm going to start off my new blog with a meme; appropriate, eh?
A couple weeks ago, a friend sent me one of those meme emails; this one asked that I describe her in just one word. Ok, that sounds like fun AND an interesting blog entry as well. So I turned around and sent that email to some friends.
These are the answers I got back.
Julie: Creative
ME: There* (it takes paragraphs of explanation, but I really mean that word)
Smooch: Loyal
Watergirl: Caring
Heather: Funky (? I dunno there isn't one good word to describe you cause you're fun, you have cool interests, relaxed, and you're a good person!)
Pat: gold (Janet: Gold? Why?; Pat: i just think of gold colors when i think of you. autum/sunshine/that rust/gold/brown sweater you have.)
Carl: Quirky
Loobieloo: Unique
Deb: Snapefiend (is that a word???)
Lizabetty: Fantabulous
Zoot: Zany
Laura: Talented
Mel: Wild
Azzybee: Popeye**
